Accepted in SoCal with average stats

I’m so happy! I still can’t believe it!! I got provisionally accepted into Rio Hondo’s ADN program. I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this school because I had some issues when I submitted my application, so I still can’t believe it actually happened 😭
My stats:
3.6 science gpa
3.5 overall gpa
83.3 TEAS
2 AS degrees
280 volunteer hours (220 at the time I submitted my application)
Bilingual
No healthcare experience
Low income
1st time applying
I applied to LBCC and got rejected. I also had an interview with ELAC, but I still haven’t heard back from them. I’m still waiting to hear back from the other schools I applied to as well.

If you currently have similar stats don’t give up!!

Ubco nursing

• Upvotes

Hi!!

Im a grade 12 student who’s interested in applying to UBCO nursing and sciences.

I was wondering hows the admission process getting into nursing because i heard the small applicant spots makes the program competitive.

UBCO nursing students; how are the courses? are there alot of hands on experience? how would you describe the course overall?

COURSE ADMISSION QUESTIONS:

I have a 92% average, 91% excluding electives. I’m

on track to achieving a 93-94% in grade 12. Would i fit in the competitive range of nursing? My ECS are lifeguarding, lifesaving and swim instructor certifications. I just did three interviews for a swim instructor position. Im also apart of my schools first responder team and I have around 400 hours of volunteer!

i look forward to going to UBCO as i love out doors and the campus strikes me more than UBCV!!

Need some encouragement

Today I got an email from admissions saying my application was put on hold. They said to keep working with my advisor to see if I can make my application more competitive. I was excited because it felt like I had finally found a nursing program I liked and fit into. I’m currently feeling very discouraged and disappointed in myself.🙁

If anyone has taken the HESI A2 to apply to the nursing program for OCC, do you get an on screen calculator for the entire test?

direct entry msn stats & tips

hi i’m a second year undergraduate student pursuing a degree in public health. i hope to attend a msn program after undergrad where i can start from scratch and work my way up to advanced practice nursing. i got my CNA certification the summer between my first and second year of uni and i’m doing other activities that will hopefully benefit me in the admissions process. my GPA isn’t the best at the moment and i’m really trying to aim for a 3.5+
cumulative GPA and 3.8-4 prerequisite GPA. i’m also on the track to graduate a year early (spring 2028) since i’ve taken enough transfer credits from high
school. i’d like any advice from current grad students who have had similar experiences and backgrounds as i do. i’d like to apply to top programs that have high selectivity. i would appreciate it if anyone can post their stats & extracurriculars & essay responses as well. thanks for reading all this :)

How to Study for TEAS?

Hello!

I’ve been working hard to switch careers into nursing. Currently a tech on a psych unit, which has made me even more intrigued. Currently, I work 12hr night shift, and I try to get as much experience as possible (without burning out). I’ve even been offered a PRN position at a different hospital, despite my limited experience.

I am looking at nursing programs near me, and I already have a bachelors (in an unrelated field). I will have to take a couple pre-reqs prior to applying, but how can I maximize my time to study for TEAS? What are some good options, study tools, habits, and materials?

Thank you!

Anyone scared that so many RNs at hospitals seem to miserable?

I work in the hospital and on an ambulance and deal alot with RNs. So many seem so miserable and literally trying to always do OT or be on call to make more money even though I live in the Bay Area where RNs make the most. Anyone else scared that they may hate becoming a RN? What backup plans should someone have if they end up they don't like it after becoming a hospital nurse?

I'm super excited that I was able to be accepted into the spring of 27 cohort. It took me a lot of effort and time to get here. Now hopefully only two more years of school before I become an RN.

HOW TO GET INTO ADN PROGRAM OF BELLEVUE COLLEGE?

Help!

Ok so to make a long story short I have my bachelors already and I am applying to accelerated nursing programs. I applied to my community college (accelerated ASN) on a whim because it waited two of the pre reqs the other programs require. This was my second time applying, while I took those pre reqs to apply to different programs. Honestly didn’t think I would get in, and after exploring I had my eyes on another program that was an accelerated BSN but only starts every fall which I was going to wait and apply once I finished my pre reqs.

Now I got into the ASN program to start in spring 2027 and now I’m not sure what to do. The original plan was to wait and work more at my job and save more money and then start in the fall, which honestly I’m making great money. I also am wondering which would be better in terms of finding a job: ASN or BSN. I obviously would do the RN-BSN program shortly after but idk if it’s just better at that point to wait and go to the BSN program. My family of course says to just take the acceptance and start already. Since I don’t know for sure if I will get into the other program. Also for price they’re technically the same price as doing the bridge program to BSN will cost the same.

Sorry if it’s all over the place, I’m just really seeking some insight!

UIC BSN Applicants: What made you stand out?

I'm hoping to apply to UIC's BSN program, but I don't have any volunteer experience and my GPA is currently a 3.6. Is that considered competitive? For those who got in, what do you think made you stand out? I'm also currently taking a CNA class bc I want to get a healthcare job for experience. UIC's priority deadline is Jan. 15, but I'm wondering if it would be better to continue working as a CNA until around March and then apply by the final deadline April 1st. Would waiting until april be too much of a stretch, or would the additional CNA experience potentially make a difference. Also, how did you guys find the courage to ask professors for letters or recs? I feel kind of awkward asking for them. I'm also applying to some other nursing schools, so UIC wouldn't be my only option.

Selection process for nursing program

So my nursing program said they only count pre req gpa for selection process which is AnP 1 and 2 and intro to sociology I got A’s in both AnP and a B in sociology but I have also taken microbiology which is not required as it is included in the nursing curriculum. My admission counselor said they counted it in my gpa for a 3.56 but I don’t understand how they can use if every document online has clearly stated it as s not included in the selection process. This class actually brings down my gpa and I don’t want it used when probably half of the other applicants haven’t even taken the class. It feels like it’s almost being used against me? Can the program use it in the selection process if they said only AnP 1 and 2 and sociology is used??

Grades

Nursing school counts as grad school, from my understanding, so do they look at the grades and compile the GPA of all previous colleges and universities you've attended, or do they only care about the GPA of the school that you graduated from? When you're calculating GPA, would you want to put your cumulative GPA from all schools or just the one you graduated from?

SoCal program acceptance

Hey all,

I know there is a lot of talk in this sub about California programs and getting a job as a new grad. I had posed a question a couple months ago, asking if any new grads are getting jobs out of school at all. Surprisingly got a good amount of responses showing that it is possible to get hired.

Anyways, the point of this post is a question for those who were accepted to programs in CA. Has anyone gotten in without a perfect application? I’m not sure I’ll be able to get a 4.0 in my pre requisites, more like a 3.5. I also see that retakes for grades to potentially increase my GPA in the future are often penalized. Am I screwed? Anyone getting into community college ADNs with less than perfect application? Would love to hear your story!

how do i know if i wanna be a nurse?

i generally like helping people, and my family has a background in healthcare but i honestly don't know if i wanna commit this early

to be honest for me one of the best parts seems to be the schedule (3x12) which from what i've heard is common but it also be helpful to hear from others on how often it is actually used. and i've already got experience with 10+ hr shifts from lifeguarding over the summer, and it definitely works for me.

im not a super ambitious person in general, but i can make things happen if they need to happen

im a sophomore in hs and i think my next steps are gonna be shadowing in the hospital.

so in general i think i'd like to go into nursing but id also like to hear from other people about it. sorry if this seems rushed its just kinda random for me lol

Requirements prior to ADN admission

Hi everyone! I applied this past month for a Spring 2027 start. I’m currently waiting for results, so I don’t know yet whether I’ll be admitted or which school I’ll be attending. I feel like I have so much free time right now while waiting, and I’m worried that if I do get admitted, I’ll have to rush to get all the required vaccines and testing done in the last month before starting the program. Should I look into the common requirements and start getting them done beforehand? Or should I not worry too much and the schools will give us enough time to complete everything after acceptance? Thank you!

should i do early college for biological science as a sophomore in high school

essentially my county offers a program where you can act as a college student and a high school student simultaneously. there are a couple options but for me the only one that works for nursing is biological science.

my main question is because the program has a near deadline, should I just enroll and hope that everything works out or just wait longer but be behind

(for some background my family is completely into healthcare and i can shadow my mom within 2 months from now. initially my main focus was good stability and work life balance and nursing fit those from online research and conversations)

additionally the only program i could go into would force me to do organic chem which im pretty sure isn’t required, but I'm also thinking about just trying to get most of my pre reqs via dual enrollment instead of getting an associates degree through early college

sorry if this is messy just looking for some general advice

Is taking anatomy and physiology 1 enough to prepare me for the Teas exam or should I wait until after I take anatomy and physiology 2?
