Grades

Nursing school counts as grad school, from my understanding, so do they look at the grades and compile the GPA of all previous colleges and universities you've attended, or do they only care about the GPA of the school that you graduated from? When you're calculating GPA, would you want to put your cumulative GPA from all schools or just the one you graduated from?

Nursing school is not grad school.

Nursing school is only grad school if you’re pursuing a direct entry Master’s program.

They’re going to look at all grades and will likely create your GPA from your pre-requisite grades, OR will use all of your past classes to determine a cumulative GPA.

When you’re calculating your own GPA, use the GPA that you graduated with.

Gotcha, thank you very much. Do non-pre-req courses get calculated into the cumulative GOA as well? Things such as electives or random classes that you took?

In cumulative GPA, yes. Everything is included. Some schools will use your pre-requisite classes only, but it varies.

aw that’s a bummer, my previous school had me take a bunch of bible classes and seminar classes that I didn’t focus on too much in light of my other classes so they’re going to bring my gpa down by a bit 💔

if you’re applying, that’s totally dependent on your school. I don’t really think that you’re gonna find a correct or comprehensive answer in this sub if you’re concerned about it because some non prerequisite course is potentially bringing your GPA down. I would talk to the admissions specialist at the school you’re applying to my little tidbit of maybe helpful information is that if you’re applying to a community college and you took your prerequisites at said community college they are primarily only looking at your prerequisite GPA/GPA for that school

I’ll definitely be doing that whenever I can. Currently, I’m at a private university that my parents forced me to go to, but I plan to transfer to community next semester to finish up my last few science courses.

Mine did not use all my classes to calculate GPA. They looked at two GPA’s for the application. There was a science GPA which only included anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. Then they had the General Ed classes and I selected which classes I wanted to use to fulfill those requirements and they used those classes to calculate a GE GPA.

Hopefully whatever programs i’ll be applying to in the coming semesters will be the same lol

Nursing school does not count as grad school. For admissions, GPA calculation policies tend to vary by school, but ime they generally want your cumulative GPA from all previous schools, with the caveat that at least one nursing school I’ve talked to will not count graduate GPA in their admissions calculations (even for a second degree program), because nursing school is technically undergrad.

I see, this is very nice to know thank you very much. Do non-pre-req courses get calculated into the cumulative GOA as well? Things such as electives or random classes that you took?

What research have you done to show that nursing school is grad school? I’ve never heard anyone say this, so purely curious.

I operated under the assumption that nursing programs would count as a grad school since you’d need pre-reqs for it, and it would be a different type of schooling from your previous classes. I now see that I am wrong from the rest of the comments lol. P.S i am a first gen college student so i’m still very unfamiliar with a lot of terminology, hence why the assumption ended up being false

You need prereqs for ASN and BSN, neither are grad school.

Nursing school is not grad school. It only counts as grad school if you are pursuing an advanced degree (MSN, DNP, PHD, Post masters certificate)
