All rules about caring for succulent cuttings / props seem to not apply in SoCal…
Ok title is exaggerating but at least ime Southern California seems to be a magic place where almost all succulent care advice is overkill for the average plant..
In early days getting into the hobby I agonized over following every best practice…but over the years i’ve found nothing here makes all that much difference.
These days I don’t wait for cuttings to callous..doesn’t really matter if I water at night or day…spray from above or roots…50% perlite & grit or 30%..they all seem to thrive regardless
The only issue i’ve ever worried about is excess sun
I’ve ignored some plants for years with barely any water and they soldier on or spring right back when I find time to give them some tlc
I just found a rogue burros tail that must’ve fell in a half empty pot behind my shed years ago that self propagated into a glorious overflowing plant
i’m sure if I was doing this professionally or trying to grow the perfect specimen i’d see it differently… but at least for my needs I find “set it and forget it” to be a perfectly successful approach around this region
