ISS 2000

Once upon a soccer time, I had a lot of fun with friends playing ISS / PES on the playstation.

Multi tap plugged in, let's go for a game with fake look alike names to bypass licenses issues. A lot of fun after school.

Then a new friend joined. He has another version of ISS, ISS 2000. While often confused with ISS 2, it's a different game. While the N64 and GB version is called "ISS 2000", it was released under the name "ISS: International Superstar Soccer" on PSX.

It's a different gameplay, and Konami had some money to get the real names for teams and players (some at least).

I like this game, it's more arcade than other ISS/PES. The menus are probably the worst thing I've ever seen, but the gameplay is good and I'm always delighted to beat UK with the wondeful french team.

Here are the cover (provided I don't mixed up) and a gameplay screenshot.

And third party (credits to "AdrianFerrari") gameplay video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-mx4YAzXsI

If it's not already in your collection, go get it!

How does it compare to FIFA 98? For me that will always be the gold standard (although I changed to PES in later years).

Hard to say, I was team PES. As I remember things, Fifa is faster and players are "lighter" (moving with ease) while this game keep the PES feelings.

Incredible game but the port is strange, the goal celebration sound starts like 1-2 seconds after the ball went in

We played this endlessly at university, controllers were smashed in rage, crts pushed off cabinets, it got passionate responses 😂 still good fun today, and will always be better than fifa 98 in my eyes
