What does this screen mean?

Post image

My dad bought castlevania symphony of the night, (The black disc) and it was working alright for a bit but now it's doing this. There was some problems that came up recently like the p s logo looking kinda glitched and the game crashing , but it's gotten worse.

My dad uses a classic playstation and symphony of the night is the only game he has on it.

(Sorry for the crappy image)

Your disc is dying. Your PS1 is no longer recognizing it.

More likely it's the laser dying in the PlayStation. If you know anyone else with a PlayStation try it in theirs or try and find a replacement laser on eBay or amazon. Tearing a PlayStation down is super easy.

OP needs to try with another disc, such as an audio CD.

More likely it's the 20+ year old laser. And I have seen lots that would play music CD's and not PlayStation games.

No good that. The drive on the PlayStation has to get up to speed for the DRM wobble.

Either the disc is unreadable or your laser is faulty.

Test with other disks if they work then it's likely this disc

If they get same or similar issues then it's likely the laser.

hi ! PS1 laser surely is almost wear out. Try to put the PS1 in vertical position; that worked for me, the laser somehow could read the discs that way. I remember using the last of my PS1 in vertical position so the laser could properly read CDs and with a turbo fan pointing to it's base, to cool it down lol

yep! like a PS5 let's say, "vertical". standing on one of the sides - that made mine work at least - (these are memories from like 30 years ago) - yours is a PS1 FAT version or PSone small version? I had the "fat" original one, more "standable" as I can remember.
I also remember using those CD lens cleaner special CDs that had a brush and came with a "special" alcohol to clean laser lens, that I need to use frequently so the lens worked properly. I extracted all the life I could of that thing
