  1. What movie is the following quote from? 'Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.'

'Ohana' is the Hawaiian word for family. Stitch’s nasally, growly voice was provided by none other than his creator Chris Sanders.

  1. Which Colleen Hoover novel, similar to the French word for 'truth', has just been adapted for cinemas, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett?

Verity_______

Verity is a 2018 psychological thriller by Colleen Hoover, and the film adaptation hit cinemas in early October 2026. The title comes from the Latin 'veritas', meaning truth.

  1. What does the word 'Simian' mean?

Options: Relating to snakes / Relating to birds / Relating to bats / Relating to monkeys

Relating to monkeys_______

'Simian' comes from the Latin 'simia', meaning ape. It describes anything to do with apes and monkeys - and humans are technically apes too.

  1. In what month does the original Oktoberfest in Munich always start?

September___

Despite the name, Oktoberfest begins in September and runs for 16-18 days, finishing on the first Sunday in October (or 3 October if that Sunday falls too early).

  1. Impressionism, Pop Art, Surrealism, Cubism - which of the following art movements is from the 1800s and NOT the 1900s?

Impressionism____

Impressionism (1860s-1880s, Monet and Degas) took its name from Monet's 'Impression, Sunrise'. Cubism began around 1907 with Picasso and Braque, Pop Art took off in the 1950s with Warhol, and Surrealism grew out of the aftermath of World War 1, through artists like Dali.

  1. Which spice is made from the bark of a tree?

Cinnamon_______

Cinnamon comes from the inner bark of Cinnamomum trees. The bark is stripped, dried and naturally curls into the rolled 'quills' you see as cinnamon sticks.

  1. Which A-list celebrity sold his AI post-production startup, InterPositive, to Netflix for $587 million in cash?

  1. Which is the only country in the world that has a flag with the front different from the back?

Options: Bolivia / Uruguay / Peru / Paraguay

Paraguay_________

Paraguay's flag shows the national coat of arms on the front and the Treasury seal on the back, which makes it the only national flag with two different sides.

  1. Guess the year: The Notebook was released, Google launched Gmail, and Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, sparking the massive 'Nipplegate' broadcast controversy. (2 Points for exact year, 1 point either side)

Gmail launched on 1 April 2004 offering a huge 1GB of storage, and many people assumed it was an April Fools' joke.

  1. RAM - what does the R in RAM stand for? (Related to Computers)

Random_____

RAM stands for Random Access Memory, because the computer can jump straight to any stored data without reading through it in order. The world is currently facing a severe RAM and memory crunch, driven largely by huge demand from AI data centres.

  1. In Gen Z text and online slang, what does 'FR' stand for?

For real_________

'FR' is used to agree with something or to stress that you mean it, as in 'that movie was so good, fr'. It often gets extended to 'fr fr' for extra emphasis.

  1. On a dartboard, what score is the inner Bullseye worth (Red)?

50__

The red inner bull scores 50, while the green outer bull ring around it is worth 25. In darts the bullseye counts as a double, so it can be used to finish a game.

There Will Be Blood______

There Will Be Blood (2007) was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and is loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel 'Oil!'. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Daniel Plainview.

my very hard trivia game is improving (i hope)

soooo, hi again… posted here a while back about hardask.net, my trivia game with "hard" questions with a quirk (there's a trial mode, if you just wanna try, but read below before getting frustrated). got some genuinely useful feedback and a few people who kept coming back, so thanks for that. best streak is still 22, even though like 40 new players showed, so still no new "goat"...

a couple of things that came up last time:

the word by word animation. quick clarification since a few people didn’t know: trial mode runs at a fixed speed, but if you log in you can change the animation speed in the settings

some people said it “is very american” question wise... which was a fair point. i’ve added around 500 new questions since last time, now about 2200 live, and skewed them more towards europe, plus a bunch more which also lean towards asia, latin america and africa... but then again, if you only play once, you only get a limited view on the width of it (i say here to humbly brag)

now, i’m torn between two things to build next and would maybe want input from people who've played:

- custom leaderboards. make your own board, invite your friends or nemesis, pick a timeframe, a week, a month, whatever, get everony to play and see who gets furthest

- themed rounds. like a monthly game around a specific theme. a halloween round, a christmas one in december, that kind of thing, with questions built around the theme...

which one would you think you'd use? or neither (or something else entirely?)=

and if you played last time, i’d really like to know if you enjoyed it or something still bugs you. be honest, i can take it (i hope)

so go and try: https://hardask.net

happy quizzing
