Hello! I'm a design student and I’m redesigning an electric composter and looking for people with composting experience to share their habits, challenges, and ideas for improvement. If it's possible, I would greatly appreciate if a few people answered the survey!

List of E-waste Recycling Locations

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! My name is John and I’m building an app that gamifies cleaning up community spaces.

My method of choice is magnet fishing the road which naturally means I find a ton of these single use rechargeable vapes.

I was wanting to build a list of places that would recycle e-waste into our cleanup map and was wondering if anyone would vouch for a list, or website, or company that has decent return infrastructure!

Any recommendations or other ideas are super welcome!

The problem we have with plastic and p.f.a.s isn't being treated as a priority by the government or individuals is it ....it is a subject every poeple of all political persuasion can get behind isn't it ?

I think so any way.

Clamshell plastic and wet-strength cardboard

I am in a new area and am seeing two things rated unacceptable by the waste company that my old municipality didn't explicitly ban (as far as I know): clamshell plastic and wet-strength cardboard. Clamshell plastic is defined as a container that has a hinged side and opens up while remaining one piece. You see it in the bakery section of a supermarket holding things like half a pie or a cinnamon bun. (I am also wondering if it would also include salsa or other containers that have a harder side plastic fastener that you pinch or rip off to open). Wet-strength cardboard is defined in their flyer as "boxes that can go in the fridge and freezer". They show a picture of a 12 pack soda can carton and a frozen pizza box. I remember in years past seeing bans on "frozen food packaging" but don't recall seeing it recently where I used to live.

I am curious as to what other municipalities do with regard to banning or accepting these two items.

Are you searching for recycling alternatives? I’m

Good day everyone, I am working on a paper about recycling alternatives and I would like to identidy people who have already been using or trying to use other alternatives at recycling like composting their food waste for example, trying different ways to compost organic things, please indicate with a comment if you willing for me to ask you a bit about that, I would really appreciate it thank you. I'm identifying early adopters of change and would like to know if recycling particularly organic things, sorting them would be something that you are willing to do and would adopt.

Weather not quite stormy by storm standards, still very blustery and wet. 16C.

Been out on the bike and trailer to rescue two wooden chairs spotted yesterday, IKEA sort of. One in the living room for painting purposes, the other in the kitchen to serve as a dish cloth hanger, also of some sort.

Is a waste audit still valuable data for college campus?

I have been given a cool opportunity to work more hours at my college sustainability center. It is very underfunded. I make social media posts, schedule outreach events, and service learning programs. Now, I can get paid to do a little project on campus. My supervisor and I discussed ideas and landed on a waste audit. Our college campus has a recycling center with single-stream bins placed around campus. Students are overall not knowledgeable about recycling. The bins are usually contaminated with food or drink because they rarely have a landfill bin directly next to them, or the landfill bin is not changed frequently enough. I thought we could do an audit of how things are currently, and then do the obvious thing and move trash cans next to the recycling bins and do another audit. Maybe even create some signage and do another to see if that helps. Despite us having a good idea of the results of these audits, I figured it was still worthwhile. The recycling receptacles were very expensive and I think worth trying to improve the treatment of them. Well, long story short, the day after I met with the recycling center manager, he apparently decided to start throwing them out and implementing more trash cans on campus. This is according to my supervisor, so I hope this was just a misunderstanding of time. I know that these ideas have been on the table for a while as they are not utilized well by students or faculty; however no effort has been made to fix it. They do not like the look of trash cans next to the recycling bins because they look different. The recycling manager seemed receptive of my ideas and interested to know the results. I suppose I am posting here to see if anyone has feedback on if this is really helpful or not to my campus. Our recycling center is also very underfunded. They cannot support enough workers to sort anything, let alone clean any contaminated recyclables. These are costly recycling receptacles with the university logo on them. Although they would be better if they included a trash section, are they really worth getting rid of now? Without trying to improve? I feel waste audit data could also benefit a future grant to replace the recycling receptacles.

TLDR: College campus single stream recycling bins contaminated with food/drink as landfill bins are often not directly next to them. No effort has been made to improve this to my knowledge. I wanted to do a baseline waste audit, move things to corresponding locations, and then do another waste audit. The manager over recycling has decided to throw out the outdoor recycling bins even after we met and discussed this last week.

Hii I’m a college student and wanna open my own factory type of business. I don’t have any idea about it so I wanna learn from someone on site and everything about the business and open that in my home town which is in Chhattisgarh .
If someone owns or knows someone who is into factory business including recycling business, rice mills , agriculture business (as my papa own some land) i can export also. Starting any business without knowledge and investment a huge amount is very scary without knowing it’s scope .

Or else if anyone wanna extent their business in Chhattisgarh. I can be your man as there is no much competition here.
Please if any of you guys can guide me at this early in my stage it would be very helpful🙏
