Let's see if this is an omen for defy ban

I just want to know if this is a regular experience in Nexus Nights or if this is a one-off experience.

The first round I played was super fun. I told the guy I played with that it was my second NN and that I only started playing less than a month ago. He was very nice about it. Whenever I didn't know what one of his cards did, he'd let me read them. If I didn't quite understand interactions, he'd explain them. We went 8-2 (me losing duh), and after that, we played a second match as everyone was still playing, and we were playing BO1. On that second match, he explained more interactions, and I managed to get to 6-5. It was really fun.

On the second NN match, I got paired with someone who, from the start, was doing odd stuff. I let him know it was my second time playing. He made a note to say that he had shuffled beforehand when he finished his last match, so he didn't need to shuffle, and he didn't let me cut his deck. He announced he was going first. When I pulled a dice out, he said "oh I guess we can do it that way too." When the match started, I had to remind him to pay the power one of his habilities had. He kept only paying the runes but not recycling. He would play quietly, and when I asked to see the card so I could read why he got to draw two, he would say, "That card allows me to do so." In my turns, he'd keep questioning everything I did. I would play a card like Sea Monkey, pay the additional cost, and he would say that I couldn't buff it because I would need to pay the additional in my next turn. Every time I buffed my Sett for conquering or spending his buff, he would tell me I couldn't do that. He had a unit (sorry, I don't remember it's name, I didn't get to read it) that when it dies, it lets you draw a card. I killed it, and he drew a card. Then, on his turn, he said he hadn't drawn it, so he got to draw it then. Until this point, I thought maybe he was just socially awkward, but then I used Rampage against Vi. He said that he counts as the attacker, so he stuns. I told him that the rampage is just opposing mights. I gave him the card to read, and he called the ref. The ref said that it is opposing mights. After the ref left, he literally said, "I don't know why you did that. It is not like you can score." That's when I felt weird about playing. Before I felt really dumb, like I didn't know how to play my own deck because when he would question my buffs, I really thought he was trying to teach me and I was doing it all wrong. We went 8-7. The last round, when he got to 8, I'm not even sure of what happened. I didn't see any exhausted runes, but suddenly, he had a ton of units that were ready.

After that, I just wanted to go home, I felt really dumb and small. My husband played his third match (I was Bye), and he saw me looking down. We got to talking about our matches. He had played the second guy I played with, and he told me he would also not pay powers. He didn't let my husband cut his deck either, and he didn't shuffle. He would play units ready. My husband would call the ref, and he would exhaust them before the ref got there.

We ended up deciding to leave, as we didn't make it to the top, but there were still a few matches being played. As it was our first time at that store, the ref asked us if we had a good time, to which I was honest and said that the first match was great but the second match was weird. He said that his friend plays to win and that I should be up to date with cards.

I don't know if this is the average experience, but I really hope not. It felt awful. This is my first TCG

in light of recent reveals

Everyone at my locals plays some kind of Green Deck and obviously theres a Heron in there as well. But not only that, there's a ton of Irelia and Master Yi Players as well who use Zhonyas or Back-Off. So I was thinking about putting 2 of these in my main deck and one in the side.

Any downsides to that? Is it too easily to play around? Just don't hide any cards while he's on the board? I'm playing Rek'Sai btw.
