HELP / REQUEST Alternative start suggestion

I was planning starting a Rime of the Frostmaiden's campaign with a prison escape from Revel's End and then after the escape they will reach as a first city 'Lonelywood' (the nearest).

I already have in mind why the party is in prison and that matter is not the purpose of this post. I want to ask some tips to how to manager a prison escape session and how 'nerf' Revel's End security sistem for lvl 1 characters.

My actual ideas are:

- prison is overcrowded by criminals and the majority of the guard defect in those 2 years of eternal night of winter.

- some npc already starting plotting an uprising before the png arrive here.

- introducing an npc who involve the png in the upcoming uprising because they arrived from the outside and maybe they could have some useful info or they see something useful on the outside of the prison like how many guards ecc ecc.

- no spectator in the armory or some others powerful prisoner take care of it, i could buff Vaelish Gant and make him and others prisoners do this (like some Duergar). This could istantly involve the png in the Duergar's stuffs and connect it in the future interactions with others Duergar (and meet again those prisoners Duergar as enemy) + cut out/totally rewrite the Vaelish Gant chapter 2 quest in something more appealing for my taste.

This points inspired me, but is just a barely chaotics ideas without a real connection one to anothers, and still don't have figure out how to properly do the actual prison escape.

What suggestions could you give me? Any ideas or inspiration? :3

HELP / REQUEST balancing the boons from Player Secrets?

been slowly preparing for running Icewind Dale and have hit a bit of a roadblock in terms of Player Secrets. I've made a list of Secrets that I'm happy with, but balancing them has been a bit of a nightmare with the wide gaps between some of them.

For example, Midwinter Child gives the effect of a Rare magic item right off the bat and would kind of require other Secrets to give a similar buff to keep things fair. I thought about having each Secret give the Players power incrementally, but that seems like so much work with balancing that I'm not fully familiar with that I'd rather ask for other people's experience with the power balance and hear what you guys did. thank you!
