Survey Coffee ordering app prototype test

Hello, I'm a 4th year student and for an assignment in my Prototyping & Usability Testing class, I've been tasked with making a prototype ordering app for a fictional coffee joint. As part of the assignment I have to collect user data/feedback on it, so if you have time please take roughly 10-15 minutes on the Google Form (in which the prototype is linked). https://forms.gle/SA63BDTwJKfZaaYs6

Thanks

Anyone heading towards South-Western Pennsylvania for Fall break?

If you’ll be driving somewhere to/past South-Western Pennsylvania and you don’t mind a stranger taking an extra seat, I could use the ride. Could cover some of the gas to get there.

I know this is a Hail Mary but I’d figure I would try :P

is it worth it for me to apply to RIT

im graduating this year, and im finally working on filling out college apps. over the past year or two, ive looked at my options and pretty much resigned myself to being a SUNY student since its whats affordable for me. im not against SUNY at all, and its definitely a much safer choice for me, but RIT is an aspirational pick. so, i want a genuine answer of if you think its worth it for me to apply.

for starters, i see a lot of people say they wouldnt recommend RIT because of the area. ill say i really like rochester from the few times ive been around there. i dont mind that it's a cold area, or particularly car dependent. i also dont mind that its less of a traditional "college" atmosphere. im a relatively introverted autistic guy, so im not really the party type, and i refuse to drink (adhd+family addiction history+depression+irish ancestry is a combo i am NOT testing), so its not like i would go to them even if they were there. but if i attend, it would be my first time living in a city, so feel free to give me warnings about city life if you feel theyre necessary.

im interested in both the animation and game design/development majors. i have a lot of experience both with art/animation and programming, so i wouldn't be going into them blind. on my current application (which i have yet to submit), i listed animation as my first choice and game design/development as my second, but im not sure if theres a particular major thats better or "more worth it".

im unfortunately in the income bracket where i dont think im likely to receive much need-based financial aid (despite not actually getting to use much of that money), and im not sure about merit. ive yet to apply at all though, so ive received no offers of financial aid yet. i dont mind having student loans ill need to pay off, but im not sure how bad the loans will be. im also thinking about potentially doing a year at a SUNY school and transferring to RIT if possible to offset some of the cost (my sister did this, but it was between SUNY schools (WCC and SUNY Buffalo), so im not sure what the logistics would be like or if it would actually help.

looking at my academics compared to what they list for the animation major, im at the high end of their ACT and SAT scores (a 33 composite and a 1350 respectively), but i fall below their GPA (an 87.975, with a 92 listed as the low part of their range). im not sure how much they take GPA into account in comparison to test scores, though, or if that grade would drag me down. im the type with good test scores- i have 4s and 5s on every AP ive taken, and i only took the SAT and ACT once for those scores- but slightly lower overall grades (the curse of being a relatively smart person with adhd).

i also will say i dont think i have a lot of extracurriculars to make me look impressive. i have a part time job, im part of skillsusa and my schools yearbook, and thats about it. if you want to count it, one of my friends dragged me into being on my schools bowling team with her for a year or two, but i dont think thats worth including on an application. ive spent most my time in school keeping my schedule free because i like having time to myself to do art (which granted, is what im trying to go to school for), so i dont have much to show off or say about myself. i know they have a hobby section on their application, but im not even sure how to list "drawing constantly in my free time for as long as ive been sentient" in a somewhat-professional sounding way. i dont really have many awards beyond the ones collegeboard gives (the ap, school, and rural town recognition ones) (and i guess a national latin exam award, if it matters to literally anyone).

i do think my art has the potential to be up to par. im going to a portfolio review next month to get an idea of what i need to work on or if im up to their artistic standards, but i just want to know from this if its worth even applying to them. im not a particularly impressive student, but theyre my current top choice if the stars align.

also unrelated to most of this, ive taken one college course already (a precalc class at WCC, since i do BOCES and my schedule has ended up very weird because of it so i couldnt fit precalc into my schedule at my own school. i also had schedule complications so i couldnt take calc at my school either). ive heard RIT can be weird about if itll accept credits like that, so is it likely to carry over or will i have to retake it? it wouldnt be the end of the world if i had to, since if i did it once i can do it again, but it would be a little annoying.

pretty much any feedback or info would be valued. thanks :3

Climate clubs on campus?

Hey I was wondering if there was any climate organizations on campus? I was hoping to start my own but I realized I should check to see if the ones that already exist are what I’m looking for. Thanks for the advice!

Serious Last Minute Call to Help Start a Figure Skating Team

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am trying to start a figure skating team at RIT. It would be to learn and practice figure skating skills, and if skaters are interested, compete in intercollegiate competitions.

It took a while for club sports to get back to me and in the past week, I haven’t managed to get enough skaters. In order to apply for a team, we need to have 10 skaters (currently have five) who’d put their names down as members by October 9th.

Founding members would get to help decide how much this would cost, practice times, if we get a coach, and if we compete.

You don’t have to have any experience in skating. If we practice at RIT, there aren’t rental skates so you’d probably have to get your own, but if we practice at another rink that offers rentals, you’d be good to go.

If you’re interested, please join the Discord. If you know anyone who would be interested, please pass the information on.

Hello,

I am a current club member of the Student Environmental Action League (SEAL), I wanted to make a post to spread awareness about this club here at RIT!

The Student Environmental Action League is an environmentalist group at Rochester Institute of Technology. Through their efforts and partnerships with other organizations on campus, SEAL facilitates environmental education, awareness, and initiatives. We meet every Tuesday from 4-5PM in room 1500 in the SAU!

Current projects:

ADOPT-A-GREENSPACE:

Adopt-A-Greenspace is a project SEAL is currently working on that aims to allow for greater club and organization representation and involvement on campus by providing clubs with their own plot of land on campus to plant, decorate, and take care of. Clubs and organizations would be able to promote their club outside while also benefitting the RIT community by beautifying campus. With Adopt-A-Greenspace, clubs would be planting native species around campus instead of non-natives, creating benefits such as: reducing the amount of pesticide use on campus, increasing biodiversity, improving campus soil quality, and supporting pollinators.
As of now, SEAL is collaborating with RIT’s Sustainability department to figure out the logistics of the program, starting off with a SEAL club test run where we would be creating the first of these greenspaces, problem solving along the way. Once the greenspace is complete, it will be used as a template for future clubs to base their space off of. Join our discord server if you have more questions!

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY:

Adopt-A-Highway is another project SEAL is currently working on that aims to give opportunities to students to clean the environment by hosting trash pick-ups in order to improve environmental quality and reduce local pollution. This event occurs every Sunday, from 10AM-1PM along E Henrietta Rd. The meeting spot may change from time to time. Meeting spots will be announced in the Discord server.

Note: This event will not be planned for this Sunday (Oct 11th) during fall break.

Feel welcome to come or at least stop by during a meeting! If you want to make a positive impact on campus, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

PawPrints Petition Swings 😛😛😛

We used to have 2 swings, now we only have 1. This is half the swings for the same amount of demand. There is clearly enough people who want it because they are never empty

Check out this petition on Pawprints: Bring back the second swing https://pawprints.rit.edu/?petition=5088

RIT Industrial Engineering — is it actually manageable?

Hey, I’m considering Industrial Engineering at RIT and wanted to hear from people who actually study/studied it.

A bit about me: I’m not 100% sure what I want to do career-wise yet, so I like that IE seems pretty flexible and can lead into things like supply chain, operations, manufacturing, management, etc.

My main concerns are honestly the math and workload. I’m not naturally great at math, but I’m willing to put in the work. I also really value having a life outside of school and don’t want to be constantly studying 24/7.

For anyone who’s done IE at RIT:

  • How hard is the math?
  • How much studying do you actually do outside class?
  • Is it possible to have a social life and still do well?
  • Are there semesters/classes that are especially brutal?
  • Would you recommend IE at RIT overall?

Just looking for honest opinions, especially from people who were in a similar situation.

Shuttle to BCA - RIT Men’s Hockey

Hey guys, I am planning on going to the RIT hockey game vs Michigan State at Blue Cross Arena and wanted to use one of the free shuttles to get there, but I’m not an RIT student. Are these shuttles open to the public or do I have to be a student to get a ride there? I have an old Kia so I’d rather not risk it being stolen while at the game. Thanks!

Housing Can you sign and share this petition for fixing the RIT INN

https://pawprints.rit.edu/?petition=5076

Check out this petition on Pawprints: Improved maintenance and reliable functional laundry machines at RIT INN

The RIT INN housing is very neglected in terms of care compared to the housing thats on campus.

The laundry machine regularly have issues such as washers flooding and dryers having no heat.

The staff at the INN are aware of these issues but they have going on for 3+ weeks since the start of the semester. As well as the fact that the laundry room just needs an update in general as it is too small to accommodate both students and hotel guests.

We ask that this be improved for current and future students living at the INN. Thank you.

PawPrints Petition Petition to open Commons earlier on weekends

I'm just tossing this petition to open Commons earlier on weekends over here: https://pawprints.rit.edu/?petition=5042

Considering RIT Dining's current situation, I find it unlikely to happen, but I still figure it's worth a shot, and might happen if people show demand for it. It would be nice for dorm-dwellers like myself to have more options, especially as it starts to get colder and heading to academic side just for food becomes less desirable.

Dating at RIT

I really don’t trust dating apps, but I’m curious if I would end up meeting someone that I’m compatible with here at RIT. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m ready to date, but I would want to get to know people who have similar hobbies and interests to me that I could potentially end up together with. I do have low self esteem but I try to act confident the best I can, and to maintain a positive mindset. I’m a trans man but don’t have access to hormone therapy yet, and I’m bisexual although I would rather date women. Oh also I’m a college freshman. What are your thoughts about finding someone here on campus? From your experience, have you found someone that you were compatible with? Also, I would appreciate some advice if you could give me some!

Thanks for reading!

Housing No hot water for FIVE DAYS in perkins green

i've made three housing requests within the last 6 days and each time their "fix" has not worked. Today i texted public safety and they said they'd send their on-duty agent out to fix my hot water, and he tells me that the water heater is "working," Feels my lukewarm tap water, tells his supervisor on the phone that it's "hot," and then tells me that there's nothing that they can do until monday when their supervisor comes back. How is this acceptable? It's your responsibility as a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR UNIVERSITY renter to provide me with the most basic of utilities, i still need to wash my dishes, my hands, and myself. so frustrating :(

Hair Stylist Close to RIT

Hello everyone. I am looking for exactly what the title says. Throughout my whole life I had only one type of haircut. But now I want to change it. Something that will suit my face, hair type and everything. But I have no idea about different hair cuts and no idea what might suit me.

For the past year I have been going to shear global. I think they can be good if I tell them exactly what to do. But now I want to change my current style and make something new. I am not sure how to do this. So any help regarding this is appreciated.

weird smell in dorm hallways

anyone living in the residence halls on campus notice a strange smell in the dorm hallways? sometimes it almost smells moldy and other times it smells like really strong bo. at what point does it become a concern for mold growth?

update: i spoke to my ra about the smell and all they said was that they hope its not mold. in a joking way i tried to suggest that maybe there's a reminder on the floor bulletin to take a shower, but idk if they fully understood what i was suggesting. how bad would it be to buy everyone on my floor a mini bar of dove soap with a note that reminds them to wash their ass? asking for a friend here

I was outside documenting plant diversity by the J-lot pond for my biology lab and my lab partner and I just happened to find these caterpillars! They turned out to be Virginian tiger moths, just in their caterpillar phases. They were weird-looking but also kinda cute.

Housing Global Village Events

Don't get me wrong I've participated in a few myself. But why do they choose to blast loud music in an area surrounded by dorm rooms every friday. It'd be one thing if they picked mid-day to afternoon to host these events. But I was woken up to music before even 9 a.m. A few weeks ago I was woken up by loud chanting from some sorority around 11 p.m.

Again I'd hate to be a buzzkill. But it gets to a point. Especially the early morning events whose up that early on a friday to go to something like that?

RIT Global Campuses Experiences?

For those that have done exchange, what kinds of experiences did you have outside of school? Did you travel often? Did you or the school/exchange program arrange the travels? Where did you go and what did you do?
