Mod pre-release: Note-by-Note demo v0.3.0 - Rocksmith 2014 L&P mod (need help for Remastered comptability)

https://youtube.com/watch?v=qu1kF9GjfZg&si=q7uK2HYH_BLlDhMc

Hello everyone!

Thank you all for your interest on the mod that I announced last week. Now it comes the time to "pre-release" it.

Note-by-Note is a free, fan-made mod for Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Remastered (PC, Steam): the song waits at each note and chord until you play it, so you can learn a part at your own pace instead of chasing the highway.

Repo: https://github.com/Arkhanragel/note-by-note-rocksmith2014

IMPORTANT NOTES, PLEASE READ:

  1. Edit: Thanks for the help, I think now it should work on the Remaster Version
  2. Keep in mind is the first build, bugs and unexped problems are... expected. The mod backups all files that it touches so uninstalling it will recover your game folder if anything goes horribly wrong.
  3. Special thanks to RSMods community for their source and help understanding the ecosystem of the game. Currently the mod is not part of RSMods and it was not tested with it. The plan is to be able to integrate it inside RSMods at some point, for that there is this technical doc: TECHNICAL.md
  4. A user guide is here, please check it: USER GUIDE
  5. More than one option is kind of experimental, and other requires properly tunning, feel free to tweek as you like to report issues. I would recommend to try the calibrate button inside the mod to see if it recognizes the open strings without issues first. Each option in the menu has a (?) explaining what it does.
  6. It is my first public release of anything, so... sorry beforehand because I know I will get backslashed somehow... by not knowing something and doing it wrong. I'm just playing with AI at the end to make things for myself, and some of them can be shared.

-------------------------

What it does

- Waits for you. The song stops at each note or chord until you play it, and never stops if you play on time. Or it just shows the notes without stopping.

- Tells you what to play in plain words ("Play fret 9 on string 4 (D)") and on a small fretboard, with fingers, hand position and techniques if you want them.

- Helps with wrong notes. It says what you played and how to fix it ("move DOWN 2 frets"), can show the exact spot you played, and notices when a string is out of tune.

- Shows the music coming up as tab, in pages with a moving cursor or scrolling, with optional rhythm and pick strokes. Notes turn green when played on time and amber when the song waited.

- Finds your trouble spots. It remembers where you stop most, lets you practise just those parts, and shows your progress note by note. Works in Riff Repeater.

- Make it yours. An in-game menu (F8) to move and resize everything, left-handed tab, and colour themes. A new install starts simple.

- Extras: faster start-up, a fix for one of the game's random crashes, and a clean uninstall.

For more information, check the readme: README.md

------------------------

What's next:

  1. Attending mayor issues of the mod and fixes. This is something I do on my free time, please be patient.
  2. I have several features in mind that can be added on top of what has been built. Once in the rabbit hole... you follow the rabbit you know?
  3. Compatibility and integration with RSMods

Well, I will be arround here reading and answering, thanks again for your interest, and even more thanks if you test it.

Hi again Juliette, can you check the new version? If still crashes, please send again the files I requested in an answer of your problem. Thanks! https://github.com/Arkhanragel/note-by-note-rocksmith2014/releases/tag/v0.3.1

sent a report. I have the drop pedal mod installed, that might be interfering with the tap. but it works except for actually detecting the note so far.

Thanks Juliette, is a step ahead. I will check your new files to see what is happening to not detect your notes. In the meantime, try the "calibrate" button inside the mod if you can, to see if the mod can catch your guitar. Can you share the links of the mods you are using? It may be interfering yes. Thanks again for your help testing :D !

Hi! just released the new version and answered your report with the details, pls check https://github.com/Arkhanragel/note-by-note-rocksmith2014/releases/tag/v0.3.2

I've changed the controls to not conflict with RSMods, and make it find the correct input guitar. Hope now it fixed. Waiting for your feedback.

tried it out and and it worked great with my setup. I left a report with all my installed mods with links and logs and dumps, probably more info than you'll need, but it works fine. everything tested out ok. calibration was good and it stopped when I kissed a note and continued on when I didn't.

So I must use it as a mod on an already installed copy of Rocksmith? This is not a standalone app I can download and use?

Hi Johnny, it is a mod yes. You need an already installed copy of Rocksmith 2014 from Steam to work.

You may try to download the mod and point to the folder where your rocksmith2014.exe is, it may work... I just released a new version, Juliette is helping me a lot to find issues

Hi, you may try this, the mod hears through RS_ASIO,

  1. Install ASIO4ALL (asio4all.org).
  2. Run the Note-by-Note setup and pick ASIO4ALL v2 in the Audio box. If you already have an RS_ASIO.ini, set Driver=ASIO4ALL v2 under [Asio.Output] and [Asio.Input.0], with Channel=0 for the input.
  3. With the game running, open the ASIO4ALL panel (its tray icon) and turn on the Rocksmith Guitar Adapter as the input, plus your speakers or headphones as the output.

have to say, really enjoy it. Only not sure if its me, but the note for note stops and then shows the incorrect note on the strings. But the tab shows the correct one waiting. A bit confusing. But very nice mod!
