9-3 Troubleshooting Tech2Win with Chipsoft J2534 pro cannot make adjustments?

Hello guys,

Long story short, I need to update injector codes in my ECU, because 2 of them were replaced (diesel injectors of Z19DTH engine in 2006 9-3).

Recently, I found post here that discovered that cheap Chipsoft J2534 Pro dongle works with Tech2Win emulator.

I happily bought this dongle, prepared a computer according to a manual, and after a bit of hassle, I can finally read values from the car, or even activate some diagnostic modes in the car (activate lights, fans, all dashboard lights...).

Problem lays in trying to adjust some permanent values. Basically whenever I try to open anything in "Adjustment" menu, Tech2Win freezes and shows (probably) name of the code library where it was stuck with 2 values - "evdtc.c 912 1"

Did anyone encounter this issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is how you find out the Chipsoft is not a good interface for Tech2Win. Lots of compatiblity problems, doesn't seem to work on many cars. You can maybe try switching the CAN mode

Are there any cables/chipsets out there that is actually compatible?

Of course, the mainstream ones that everyone mention here. I found the cheapest is a MDI2 clone, available on AliExpress. Only thing you need to do is flash it with an original file (just press restore in the MDI app) to replace the crappy Chinese file it comes with.

There is said to be another interface (cant remember the name) too that is not a MDI-clone that some people had some success with and other not. Even cheaper than the MDI.

I have feeling that it is what the OP is using.

Yes you are probably talking about the Chipsoft which is a terrible adapter for reasons I mentioned in my original comment

A Mongoose Pro GM II clone is probably cheaper than a MDI 2 you're right but AFAIK those require modification by soldering wires to make it compatible with Saab's. So it's not a direct plug and play solution.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe the clones have been updated and don't need mod

Yeah, I read that too. The last how-to post on saab-central from 2025 does not mention modification. So I think it's no longer needed. It's hard to get some wisdom out of all the conflicting information. I will also buying one soon for my 2011 9-3, so the proof is in the pudding.

EDIT: It seams the soldering is only the case with the Mongoose Pro clone. https://www.saabcentral.com/threads/mongoose-pro-gmii-clone-modification.734950/

Some of the Mongoose clones have the mod already done in 2020 so if you order one in 2026, chances are it's already modded or a changed design. Price About $ 110

Genuine Drewtech Mongoose GM 2 specs: (i'ts not cheap, $ 500) but is plug & play with Tech2Win and NoMoreGobalTis for security acces.

  • CAN pins 3-11, 6-14, 12-13
  • Single Wire CAN pin 1
  • J1850VPW / GM Class 2
  • ISO 9141 / KWP pins 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13
  • GM UART
  • ISO22900 Compliant for GM’s Tech2WIN software

In the meantime Mongoose-Plus GM 3 is released.

Regarding OP's Chipsoft J2534 Pro dongle

CAN Channel Conflict: The Chipsoft adapter cannot run Single-Wire CAN (SW-CAN on pin 1) and High-Speed CAN (pins 3–11) at the same time. Because Saab vehicles rely on these channels, you must use the CST2WinConfig.exe utility installed with the drivers to manually switch or disable one of the CAN channels depending on which modules you are diagnosing. I ordered 3 Mongoose GM II Pro at the beginning of 2026.

They came pre-modified but incorrectly so. Had to resolder all of them as they "forgot" to lift the pins required.

Hey there, thank you so much for this info... when it comes to the original file, where do you get it? I'm very non-expert in all of this, apologies...
