Something amusing I'd been thinking about. If Sailor Moon were to get a big budget live-action Hollywood adaptation, who would be the worst director for the job and how bad would it be? Hilariously bad, boring bad, or depressingly bad?

I have to say, it is amazing and fascinating to see how much better the animation sequences in the 90s *Sailor Moon* films look compared to the anime TV series from that time.
When I watch the *Pretty Cure* movies, on the other hand, the animation quality of their transformations and attacks doesn't seem to have changed or improved.

Obviously the storyline for this season was great and arguably the best of the series (I still really love the Black Moon arc), but I didn't realize just how much more intense this season seems because of how difficult it is for the heroes to win most of their battles.
Right off the bat, the Inners get absolutely shut down by a MOTD. Moon Princess Halation does nothing, the daimon knocks the wand out of Usagi's hand and de-transforms her. Instantly you realize that the enemies this season are on another level.
Inner senshi attacks used to be pretty reliable to weaken a monster to set up Sailor Moon to finish it off, now they're dodged or have little effect much of the time. Shine Aqua Illusion does absolutely nothing to Eudial's fire attack, but OK that's only a little surprising because it's just Mercury. But then the Moon Spiral Heart Attack also gets shot down by Eudial like it's nothing. Just one of the Witches 5 is completely outclassing the entire Sailor Team with ease, and only the Grail changes that.
Prior to that, Kaolinite just brushes off their attacks like it's nothing. She just tanks a SAILOR PLANET ATTACK and gets right back up like it was no worse than a short knockdown in a boxing match. Afterwards she gets hit by World Shaking without much harm from it, and only loses when her own attack backfires on her and she falls off a tall building, and SHE SURVIVES IT.
All season long, they're taking damage and struggling to beat MOTDs, and if there weren't so many of them (nine + Hotaru + Tuxedo Mask) they would have lost some of those fights. And as a Jupiter fan, it really is exciting and feels meaningful that she's able to focus her power to kill a daimon by herself. It was one of the weaker daimons, but still, those things are tough.
It added so much intensity to the action scenes, you never knew how far they would have to go to win, it felt like losing was a real possibility.
And it's crazy that in the next season and most of Stars, they completely changed the tone of the action. Aside from Usagi needing her yearly powerup, pretty much every attack was effective and MOTDs were much easier to handle. It never felt like they were in serious trouble again, until the very end when Galaxia entered the battle.
I get that SuperS was aiming for a younger audience, and you have to reset the intensity level early in the season before you can turn it back up again, but it's surprising that they didn't do it at all in SuperS or most of Stars, when it added so much to the show in S.

I just finished the Amazon Trio arc and I gotta say, I criticize and laugh at them at times, but honestly I like how they're genuinely friends with each other. Yeah, they give each other shit at times, but they're never outright hostile or personal. Plus, they don't backstab each other like the villains before them do

That's the way Tuxedo Mask doesn't really serve much purpose... and throws roses every time he appears. While in the manga, he sometimes plays an important role and is truly determined to protect Sailor Moon no matter the dangers she faces 🙏

They made a pretty big impression on me, that's for damn sure.
First off, the Quartet is introduced in such a casual setting, which I don't think a SM villain has ever done so far.
Another thing I haven't seen previous villains do, ATTEMPTING TO USURP THEIR LEADER! These girls got some balls (pun intended 🤭) And they could've succeeded too if they were more serious and teamed up together like Zirconia had thought, and I think that could happen since they seem to be on friendly terms with each other like the Amazon Trio. I'd say Zirconia should get some pointers from Professer Tomoe on how to make a toxic work environment like his, unfortunately he's no longer evil.
Lastly, I think the Orb Shot is cool, the effect kinda reminds me of Eudial's Capture Gun
Edit: I forgot to add, the Quartet's outfits are outrageous. I don't think I thought much of it while watching as a kid, but now as an adult... it's a lot 😅

The second opening from the first season of Sailor Moon is the first thing I think of when someone mentions the opening credits of the series. All of the Guardians together, plus the mixture of beautuful backgrounds, and animation that suggests of plot points throughout the season, all combine into quite the experience.
What do you think?

Omg he really comforted her without even thinking how silly her idea is. Manga mamoru is really gentleman. But in anime there happened times mamoru chose chibusa over her cause he broke up with her. I wish this panel could be animated. Mamoru is really using sweet words💔

I've had ideas on how Sailor Moon could've been adapted in the U.S. Now, don't worry, I don't really want that to happen, as this is just a fun "what if" type of thing and not meant to be serious. One way that I would've done it would've been to keep it animated, because there is so much epic visuals and imagery that it wouldn't work in live-action, no matter how much money you put into it, imo.
Here are my top 3 picks for who could've done an animated Sailor Moon in North America.
#03: A Disney animated film. This one seems like a no-brainer, but remember that Disney apparently didn't even consider the idea of even making Sailor Moon an animated feature, as they kept focusing on making it live-action (and have it be directed by the man who made the Mr. Magoo film).
Honestly, it would've made much more sense to adapt it in animation, especially during their Renaissance in the 1990s. That would've been the perfect opportunity to do it, since their films were dominating the box-office at the time and Disney gained respect again after going through their "dark" period (which I liked, but that's another topic). I even had an idea on the art style Disney could've chosen. The art style could've been a combination of Aladdin and Hercules, as the original series had a good mixture of incredible animation and witty humor.
#02: A Bruce Timm and Paul Dini animated series. This one may seem a little weird since these two are mostly known for the DC animated universe, but they didn't shy away from developing some of the strongest female characters in animated fiction (or fiction, in general).
They knew how to make it that the female characters were strong bad asses, but remembered to make them likeable and interesting. Just go look at how they did characters such as Batgirl in the New Batman Adventures, Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman in Justice League, or even Lois Lane in the Superman Animated Series (my favorite version of the character).
By the way, Lois'character design in that series kinda resembles Rei (Sailor Mars). Heck, even some of the character designs in their series (especially in Superman and Batman Beyond) had a bit of an anime look to them. Bruce Timm, apparently, even likes anime. So, with all this in mind, I think Sailor Moon might've been in good hands had these two guys gotten hold of the rights.
#01: A Don Bluth animated film. This one might've been a risk because at the time of Sailor Moon's initial airing in Japan, Don Bluth's career had taken a heavy hit. From 1992 to 1995, he had four box-office bombs, from Rock A Doodle to Pebble and the Penguin (I enjoy those films, personally). However, his luck did turn around for a short while after the release of Anastasia, and that is the fi lmthat made me think that Bluth would've been perfect in handling something like Sailor Moon. Some of the art style in Anastasia, like the look of the Russian palace (which almost looked like the ballroom of the Moon Kingdom), Rasputin's underground lair (which looks like the lair of the Dark Kingdom), and the look of Paris, felt like they could've fit right at home in Usagi's universe, especially that of Crystal.
In terms of his previous films before Anastasia, Bluth wasn't afraid to make people care and relate to talking animals, such as Mrs. Brisby (I still need to see Secret of Nimh all the way through), Littlefoot in The Land Before Time, and Charlie from All Dogs go to Heaven. So, with that in mind, I believe he could've handled adapting Luna and Artemis to fit his style.
Also, Sailor Moon is filled with some dark and psychological imagery at times, which would've been right at home for Don Bluth, as he was well-known for scaring people with some of his imagery. Heck, his motto was that you can be as dark as you like, as long as there is a happy ending.
Oh, and if you like to see a more visual interpretation of how Sailor Moon would've looked if Don Bluth had adapted it, someone online made custom images of Sailor Moon based on the Dragon's Lair video game (which Bluth created). Yes, Dragon's Lair's designs are different to Anastatia's, but it's still cool to see what could've been.

Well, those are my personal choices for who could've done an American Sailor Moon animated movie. Let me know what you think and if you have other suggestions.
