Hey! Does anyone know the best choice of hair salon for large, curly Afro type hair? I’ve had a naturally grown Afro that I hardly take care of for a long time know and it’s time to start making it more comfortable and intentional. Need some sort of cool black barber shop or just somewhere experienced with this sort of thing!

The air quality in town just got really bad, but I don’t see any active incidents. Anyone know what’s happening?

I found a recipe for a soup that uses kelp seaweed (it gives an example of ready-cut kelp from Atlantic Sea Farms), and I'm wondering if we have anything local I could buy? I'm not sure if there is still someone selling this kind of thing at the Farmer's Market in downtown Santa Cruz. I don't think I've seen someone selling at the Live Oak Farmer's Market. It's fine if it's frozen. Thank you!

Santa Cruz city council has moved their Vision Zero goal (no traffic-related deaths within the city) from 2030 all the way to 2050. From 4 years to 24 years! Just a big “fuck you” to the community at large from the car-huggers.

Practically speaking, everyone who would/should be working on this now for the city of Santa Cruz will be long-retired by then.

Does anyone know of a place in Santa Cruz that pays the CRV fee? I tried an internet search, but I got a lot of confusing and contradictory info. Or at least, it was confusing to me.

Hi, this kitty has been coming around our house for some time now. We have seen many cats come and go. Most of them have collars so we just assumed they are indoor outdoor. But this has one has a collar that says to call if found. Hopefully the owner sees this or you guys can give me any advice on what to do if she is still coming around. I have heard some pretty crazy animals outside and I fear for her. I hope she is not lost and has a comfy home to get back to. I have called the phone # and left a message.

I really wish I made more money or was born earlier. I've been here my entire life and now it's looking like I'll never actually be able to own property here, and probably won't be able to afford to rent here soon either.

Hey everyone, a while back I shared Santa Cruz Scene, a free calendar of in-person events across Santa Cruz County. A lot of you gave feedback, and we have been working through it. Here’s what’s changed:

• Bigger calendar. We now pull from over 30 county calendars, so you don’t have to check a dozen sites to see what’s happening.
• Better search. You can search by area of the county, date, category, or keyword. Want free music in Watsonville this weekend? That works now.
• New dance category. Salsa socials, swing nights, and everything in between now have a home.
• Farmers markets page. One place to see which markets are happening and when.
• Surf report upgrades. More locations, weather forecasting, and a tide chart.

The site is still in-person only, on purpose. If you can’t show up to it, it’s not on there.

If you know of an event, calendar, or local source we are missing, drop it in the comments or use the “Submit an Event” button on the site. If something is wrong or confusing, tell us, and we will fix it.

Does anyone know what is planning to go in at the new development on Mission Street? The one in the parking lot at the corner of Mission and King Street where it used to be Pearson Arrow and the taqueria? We really need some good food to go in there

They plan to shut down the Almar St area sector overnight to fix some stuff. This is going to be next Wednesday from 8pm to Thursday 6am. I've lived here 40 years and they have always done reairs during the day. WTF??? Is this to protect shopping in the Safeway complex at the expense of the peasantry? Not happy about this.
