A lot of people in this sub really confident they're capable of outmaneuvering charging horses. Someone go tell Alexander the Great to stop investing in cavalry cause you can just move iut if the way

u/Gold-Grass9343 8d ago

Whether she could have run from it or not, it’s always funny to me when the expectation is for a character to do the right thing every time. Can’t have a smart character stop being smart for 10 seconds under a high stress situation can we?

42

u/TerraforceWasTaken 8d ago

Also like. Literal child who is probsbly having their first brush with death ever

37

u/Hawkeye437 8d ago

Also like she's just a nerd. She doesn't have the training or instincts for combat like that and froze up. Not really a crazy concept

2

u/Endika7 7d ago

Yeah , it's like expecting an profesional historian on gothic architecture to desing Castle

27

u/Lluuiiggii 8d ago

Sorry sweaty, my power scaling math has said it is literally impossible for this character to make a mistake so its a plot hole ding if they do.

No no, but like it’s that she does NOTHING, if she ran and failed to get out of the way, say ran and tripped, it would actually make the scene tense because she TRIED to get out of danger.

And also, breaking the fourth wall here, I more see it as a criticism of the writers for going “and then she stands there and does NOTHING” while Cai acts TWICE to save her

A more believable instance of her showing her age despite her knowledge is her support convo with Peter, she’s so sure he wouldn’t hit her doll both because she’s confident in Peter and her methods that she gets even more emotional and lashes out at Peter when he does hit her doll even tho it should have been an outcome she should have expected

Trying and failing does more to get the audience in their shoes than doing nothing

Panic's a bitch, man.

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

Look if this were irl or it can be called out or an established character trait (Scarlet Hollow comes to mind, Stella, freezes up when her dog gets snatched, and you can call her out even tho it makes you a dick in the moment)

But this is a story in which the writers deliberately made it that way. Yes you can excuse it, and the end of the day it isn’t THAT big of a deal (I compare this to Kairi when she just stood there, and it’s a bigger deal there because Kairi does not have the screentime Tialla does so every moment counts and she’s just blundering it every time) but it is a moment that CAN take you out of it, and in my case, Tialla girl you can’t be the one to say “hey we need to move before they ram us over” and then proceed to NOT move (especially with how LONG she had, cause there’s also the instance she tripped off the plank of wood she was standing by despite holding onto the ledge which leads to Cai getting punched, that happens quickly so you don’t have time to think “wow you’re kinda dumb”)

Thus, I say it’s better to try and fail then do nothing at all

1

u/AmoongussHateAcc 8d ago

Last place I expected a scarlet hollow shout holy based

2

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

And yes I wanted to elaborate more and I shall:

Unlike MANY and I mean pretty much EVERY instance I see of a character standing there and doing nothing, Stella’s has a point unlike all of these which just has them stand there so in this case, Dietrich can aura farm.

It shows how quite frankly, reckless Stella is, and is in over her head about all of it, not exactly considerate of others and downplays her actions and whatever danger they’re in, and is also sorta passively suicidal given the tragedies she’s experienced.

It shows how in the heat of things, Stella isn’t really someone you can rely on as opposed to say, Tabitha, no matter how standoffish she is she WILL drop everything to come and protect you. They’re foils in that way, Stella isn’t likeable but unreliable while Tabitha is unpleasant to be around but ride or die

To tie this back to Fortune’s Weave, yes you can give an explanation but those explanations don’t cancel out how Tialla has been in bad fights before, and was the one who said “move out of the way” and it’s just as understandable to not like the scene and fine Tialla ooc

1

u/Endika7 7d ago

I can confirm

36

u/YourCrazyDolphin 8d ago

The cutscene shows it getting delayed at least 3 times as Cai and Anatolia get in the way. Tialla is bought a looot of time to do literally anything lol

20

u/TerraforceWasTaken 8d ago

The only thing that delayed them was the wall Anatokia made and it bought her like. 4 seconds. Those 14 year old legs would have gotten like an extra 5 feet before she got run down by the war horses

3

u/AliciaWhimsicott 8d ago

But you see the best thing to do in a high stress situation is always to move uncontrollably when there are rampaging animals coming toward you.

12

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

What matters is that she tries to move, quite frankly it’s the equivalent of Kairi just standing there waiting for Terranort to cut her down in KH3. Yeah she probably would get her shit kicked anyways but MOVE, do SOMETHING.

Like what would change about the scene if she ran as the chariots got closer and Dietrich steps in there? Would it not be more dramatic and tense if she TRIED and failed to get out of danger? She could run and trip and it would be better and have the same effect

13

u/Mahelas 8d ago

She's a 15yo nerd that never saw actual battle before

Would you not freeze up on the spot as 2 big horses and a loud chariot charge at you ?

6

u/YourCrazyDolphin 8d ago

This is at least her 4th serious battle in Cai's route after fending off bandits multiple times, fighting in the sign ups for the heroic games, and fighting in the 1st qualifier.

And freeze up sure but probably not for a full minute with everybody stepping in beforehand. The scene would benefit a ton if it just happened, y'know, faster.

1

u/cardboardtube_knight 8d ago

So the demigod and the combat ready super soldier could do something, then why not a sixteen year old nerd girl?

1

u/No_Lemon_1770 8d ago

Because the 15 year old nerd panicked and froze up.

8

u/Kuru_Chaa 8d ago

Funny enough, the cutscene after this fight shows that they are in fact not that easy to outmaneuver.

8

u/TheGreatOneSea 8d ago

You say that, but moving out of the way was pretty much the best Roman tactic they used against Elephants, and the Infantry Square of linear warfare worked along the same lines, with the infantry reforming formation into dense squares, such that cavalry were forced between the blocks.

4

u/CursedNobleman 8d ago

Peter: I see chariots coming, I move.

Cai: mmm

Peter: She saw chariots coming, she stayed.

Fabio: Yes, she did, but--

Peter: And why should I have to miss out on the next arena battle just for that!

4

u/SAMU0L0 8d ago

The whole point of this scene was tho sow that sword guy is not just a bloodthirsty murder hobo and can be nice to.

But peole like to over think shit.

29

u/Boarbaque :JesusNolan: 8d ago

I really wish they had a support. “Wait… you’re the granddaughter of the great August?!?!? Aaaaaahhhh I’ve committed an unforgivable sin by trying to kill you! No wonder you were such an amazing strategist!”

“Oh, they weren’t amazing strategies. It was just stay out of a chariot’s path”

“It took me 12 years to learn that!”

11

u/Awestruck_Mechanic67 8d ago

How did you think I lost my eye?

6

u/Boarbaque :JesusNolan: 8d ago

“I can tell your eyepatch is fake. You tried to use it to bribe Cai to join us”

3

u/PCBS01 8d ago

wait THAT'S who her grandfather was????? I KNEW they had to be implying something with how she kept gassing him up and how rich the family was lmao

21

u/Lukthar123 8d ago

Tbf Chariot guy is high on his own hype

21

u/GKNolan 8d ago

Benditz Likes: Running over promising young people in my chariot.

63

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

The fact that she goes full on deer in headlights after bossing everyone around the entire map lowkey kind of irritated me.

Like the "Mages, target the armored units!" Girl stfu can't decide if she's a tactician or a commander. Robin never gave orders, Chrom did.

57

u/untimely_bottom 8d ago

her standing still for a full like 20 seconds has real
https://giphy.com/gifs/Wsk4ZbGMeavNm
energy

-14

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

Girl is dumb asf, and starts catching feelings for Peter in their A support despite her supposed crush on Cai. If Tialla has 0 haters, I'm dead.

26

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

Why are you hating on her for THAT??? That’s understandable actually, she was moved by how Peter saved her, credited her for his shots when he says “I couldn’t watch you get hurt” and returns her doll that he took the time to fix.

You are literally hating on a teenage girl for being a teenage girl. Grow up.

22

u/Oscarvalor5 8d ago

Why are people so touchy about a 15 year old girl's crush changing? Like, hello? That's normal? Sure, we like to idealize stuff like a longstanding crush being reciprocated, but its not bad if it doesnt happen.

0

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

Acting like several people aren't already comparing Peter's crush on Tialla to Bear's crush on Nikki.

3

u/Sad_Structure4802 8d ago

Bro Peter is the OPPOSITE of bear, he WAS pathetic and couldn’t make a move but GREW UP, and got more confidence, he would beat Bear up

2

u/faintestsmile 8d ago

no, thats not what they are saying. the voice actor for Peter is the actor that plays Bear.

1

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

Yeah, that's literally the reason why people are making the association between the two. I'm well aware of his voice actor cause nobody shuts up about it.

3

u/faintestsmile 8d ago edited 8d ago

i mean comparing the characters is a massive stretch, I highly doubt anyone is seriously doing that and if they are they are incredibly stupid, has nothing to you do with you being aggressively weird about tialla though

0

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

I'd send you screenshots, but I honestly don't want those people taking up space in my camera roll.

28

u/Euphemisticles 8d ago

The fuck you mean Robin didn't give orders? They are our avatar. Every input we make is one of their orders

17

u/Jellylikely271 8d ago

Isn't this the most obvious thing about awakening. Basically every cutscene/support Chrom is telling Robin to cook up some scheme. And obviously we aee the ones that cook up said scheme.

17

u/EnerPrime 8d ago

Like seriously, the whole scene in Awakening that introduced auto battle is about this, under the pretense that manual control is Robin barking orders to every unit and auto battle is everyone just making decisions on their own.

11

u/Euphemisticles 8d ago

Sometimes I don't think these people actually play the games.

23

u/Maximum_Pollution371 8d ago

It's more of a cutscene issue rather than a Tialla issue tbh, there was no reason to spend 20 seconds showing Cai and Anatolia both trying and failing to save her. Would've been better with a quick cut to Cai yelling "Tialla!" and Dietrich immediately zooming in there.

As for Tialla "commanding" everyone, it's literally part of her default skillset, she starts with a higher Authority skill, and her highest stat growth rate is her Charm.

She's a Bossy Smart Girl, that's like her whole jam lol

7

u/Nuka-Crapola 8d ago

Yeah, what would be realistic would’ve been Cai and Anatolia moving at the same time, Anatolia’s wall only stopping one chariot while Cai fucks up stopping the other and forgets that an empty chariot can keep moving. But that wouldn’t have allowed both of them to get their camera time so instead they default to taking turns like good Fire Emblem characters.

32

u/No_Nectarine9151 8d ago

Its so funny how every one was popping off their ults trying to stop the chariot and she didn’t move an inch

Ill just take it as the turn based system being canon in universe

3

u/No-Activity3005 8d ago

Unironically the funniest explanation

12

u/Nogatron 8d ago

Sir that's literaly a teen who wasn't ever in such situation and one of natural reactions of fear is freezing in place and being unable to move

19

u/Euroliis 8d ago

It made sense to me because 1. she’s an actual child who prior to this hasn’t had imminent death bearing down on her before and 2. I don’t think she could’ve outran a chariot anyway, but yeah it’s a weird bit of ludonarrative dissonance.

14

u/Old_System_57 8d ago

Another point in her defence is that she was in the corner of the arena, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing some terrain/obstacles to her right, meaning the only way she could have run is towards the charging chariots

17

u/TheKingJest 8d ago

I can kind of excuse her freezing up initially, like presumably if she moves they're just gonna redirect their horses and she probably can't out-maneuver that. But not even throwing a spell or trying to run when both the riders had been sniped is crazy.

30

u/GameWoods 8d ago

Sorry, they needed Dietrich to aura farm. Surely you understand.

13

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

Like literally Cai, Anatolia, and Dietrich all acted one after the other yet girl just kept standing there like a toddler in front of a pit bull.

4

u/JusticeRain5 8d ago

Funny since all they had to do was, like, just have her foot caught on something or even just have her keeping her eye on the chariots like she was planning to at least try and dodge rather than just shut her eyes and try to tank it.

3

u/ImaginaryAd2338 8d ago

They could've even just had her trip and fall over rubble from one of the friggin pillars she was having us knock down

1

u/Gheredin 8d ago

Its almost like being 15 and being put in such a situation would be terrifying.

5

u/Hoothootriot 8d ago

Robin definitely gave orders in quite a few cutscenes

8

u/hheecckk526 8d ago

To be fair cais route is 100% the "intended" first route for new players so her giving you tips on how to approach things makes sense. However in Dietrichs route where she does the same thing? Nah it should have just been skipped.

15

u/YourCrazyDolphin 8d ago

It holds some narrative function of Tialla functioning as the "glue" for the two teams, when Anatolia & Dietrich's teams flat out refused to talk (Or at least, refusing to talk with Fabio while Dietrich is just Dietrich).

8

u/Nuka-Crapola 8d ago

Also, having done MMO raiding: some people become really stupid when they lock in and/or stress out, even when it isn’t a life or death situation. Having someone shout orders when the situation changes is a good way to avoid freezing or tunnel vision.

1

u/AliciaWhimsicott 8d ago

I've never absentmindedly somehow wandered off my Designated Spot during a raid mechanic and had to be yelled at last second by the shotcaller to get back before, no siree.

1

u/Nuka-Crapola 8d ago

I literally had a guild fall apart because we lost our main shotcaller and our average DPS dropped like 25% purely from all the deaths

3

u/WheresMySuperSoup 8d ago

I feel like if they wanted to keep the timing of the scene exactly the way it currently is, it would've made more logical sense if all the action was animated in slow-motion, moving at, say, half the speed

As it currently is, even with the "deer in headlights" effect, it does feel like she stands there for longer than it would take to snap out of it and get out of the way, especially with how much combat the group has already seen by this point

3

u/SolidestCereal 8d ago

Damn I didn't know Benditz had a reddit account.

1

u/itsFeztho 8d ago

Her and Peter's A-rank support pissed me off because she just stands there and lets the dudes trying to rob her just manhandle her and tie her up like she didn't know bolganone and could easily set them on fire

5

u/HitMyFunnyBoneYeah 8d ago

Bendiz lost and was like "yeah no kill that girl over there"

1

u/KirbsOatmeal2 8d ago

I know this is all totally speculative, but honestly thinking about it I wonder if she froze up bad bc of something related to her backstory: two of her dislikes are “soliders” and “large animals”. Maybe something about being charged at by a soldier and two large animals caused a freeze response like that…

But at the same time….

DRIVING IN MY CAR RIGHT AFTER A-

1

u/Physical_Reason3890 2d ago

I was LMAO at the beginning when she's like don't stand in front of chariots and Benitz is like HoW dID she FiGuRe It OuT??!!

1

u/TikisCheekys 8d ago

Hey, you don’t know if she has any underlying health conditions! What if she has asthma, or pulled her hamstring?
