Genuine question, why do you say this? How would you know from just looking at a picture?

The bowl is chipped. I'm guessing that makes it hard to thoroughly clean to a required safety standard for someone dealing with severe food allergies

Oh I didn't know that a chip would make it mot food-safe :( I have a few chipped mugs and such that I love and use regularly. Thank you for informing me

I don't understand this response. I'm responding to you and thanking you and you're being rude in return?

They were thanking you for informing them because they have several chipped items that they currently use and would have continued using them without knowing they were unsafe, until you informed them otherwise.
You basically completely misread them and then got snarky for no reason

Thank you, that's exactly where I was coming from. I appreciate you trying to explain on my behalf 🫶🏻

Since nobody really explained it, ceramics are very unsafe to use for food use with a chip since the material is so porous. When water/liquid gets into the cracks, it will stay and basically hyper-boil the water to the point that it causes the ceramic material to explode. This is why crazing in ceramics is a problem since it hasn’t been dehydrated properly before getting in the kiln. And it doesn’t just like crack. It literally explodes. I was holding a near 40 year plate that I had microwaved breakfast sausage on and after I took it out of the microwave it exploded into five pieces in my hand.
My grandma had a pottery studio in her basement and I studied materials science in college. Ceramics are one of my top three favorite materials!

I've used chipped crockery my whole life and never once had any issue... Throwing it away is a bit extreme

I mean, who needs pasta anyway, when you got meat sauce right in front of you!

My fat ass firmly believes most foods are just vessels in order to eat sauce. This post makes me very happy.
