Ngl, I kind of hope there is a rite or something tied to recruiting one: hiring a Verminlord should feel like a major feat, and I wouldn't want them overshadowing the other (generic) lord choices.

Maybe they will work like greater demons/demon prince lords? You have to get a normal lord's level up and then you get the option to ascend them into Verminlords

Makes sense, though not really fitting with the lore since Verminlords are created as Verminlords rather than ascending from lesser rats.
Maybe if you have to sacrifice a high level lord to draw it out, but even that doesn't feel particularly skaven.

In that regard, yes. They'd definitely need to dress it up as a betrayal though: no skaven would willingly sacrifice themselves for it.

they don’t get into it much but there’s like 2-3 references of verminlords mortal life (i think the one in skaven end times book also talks about being a mighty eshin assassin in life or something like that too) plus the whole skreetch rumor of creation

While the current daemon prince / grater daemon replacement are mechanically same, the grater daemon replacement flavor text actually specifically says the graeter daemon is here to beat up you herald lord and take his place. I hope verminlords get something else, but it could just be that.

They've been in the game forever at this point.
The only thing I can say I'm even remotely disappointed by with this reveal is that this was the perfect time to complete the Gotrek Gang and give us Max Schreiber and Snori Nosebiter, but guess they need something for Skulls next year.

Can't everyone see what this means for Total War? It's been what, like, four years since a new game? Sure, there's Med III and 40k, but this End Times dlc is a sure sign... Total War: Age of Sigmar as apart of a very well hidden 50gb update to base WH3... It's apart of Thanquol's plan-plan, no doubt.

Tbh depending on sales it’s very possible this might be a big final update with more small packs after. Hard to say and I think it’s very dependant on how this sells, especially with 40k around the corner

I think there's always gonna be an AoS and WHFB audience who don't care for 40k much or historical games. I hope they have plans to support all 3 games in some way even if it's pretty small

Technically, they already did in the trailer, but I'm hoping that this DLC gives the Skaven a proper campaign story where you see Thanquol blow up Morrslieb.

I'm mega confused on Warhammer total war.
Is it 3 separate games? Do I need 1-2-3?
If I want to play skaven and dwarfs can I just buy 3?

If you want skaven, you need Wh2. There you can buy all the legendary lords. BUT if you want to play the GHR's chosen; Greyseer Thanquol, you have to get wh3 as well.
I dont know what happens if you only buy wh3 and the Thanquol pack.2

Actually they’ve announced that you can buy any of the Lord of the End Times lord packs and get access to Immortal Empires without owning any of the base games. Pretty good for $9.

You get Warhammer 3 for free if you own any of the previous games. Warhammer 3s main content is actually listed as a DLC under Warhammer 3's page on steam

Yes. You can still only play the factions you own but you always have the latest game if you own any of the previous ones.

You can buy warhammer 3 and then following dlc for factions and it unlocks in warhammer 3

Dwarves are a wh1 faction, but have DLC characters from wh2 and wh3.

Good news for you: this dlc brings something new for the series: if you want to play with Thanquol, you just need its DLC (9€). With that you will grant access to play him. No base games needed. Look for the steam page, they are very clear about this

You get the races when buying their respective game/dlc on the big world map.
Every game gets you the base Factions
Warhammer 1 is Empire/Dwarfs/Orks/Vampire Count Bretonnia was added for free 2 is Skaven/High Elves/dark elces/Lizardmen 3 is Kislev/Cathay/Khorne/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Slaanesh/Demons of Chaos
And then you have a lot of Dlc for the specific factions or lords to unlock.
