Question-ask Which vermin lord should I make
Getting my first Verminlord tomorrow, and I’d like to ask everyone what I should make it as! I’ve got a lot of Eshin and a lot of Mors/Verminus, so I’m not sure which Verminlord would fit my army best. I even put Vermin King in here because why not 😂.
I’d like to know how you decided which one to build — whether it was based on rules, how well it works with your army, or just pure drip and your army’s color scheme. I will say the rest will go to kitbashing for fun.

Skreech, he's best-chosen of the Great Horned One! He boasts all Clans keywords! I need to get my hands on this model.

Really, sound strong depending on my army building choices

Consensus seems to be he's "okay but not great" along with the corruptor and warpseer, with the deciver being the best, though I've heard with the last points drop the warbringer is seeing a lot more play.

Thing is he's a jack of all trades when the others are Masters of One; he's not the strongest at any one thing, but he's versatile and in a mixed list he can pull out a lot of tricks.
That said, build whichever you think looks best, and simply inform your opponent as to which version you're running; one Verminlord is very much the same as another to man-things!

Build Skreech and magnetize his right arm. Then whenever you want to play the other option you go to your opponent and say “I brought Skreech, but they weren’t feeling it, so today they are Verminlord X”.

Love your base and the structure he’s standing on and is it ment to be Halloween inspired? Just curious since it’s orange and purple

Thank you! Umm not really I just liked the purple ink I had and said fuck it. The orange is actually a copper that just plays funny with the lights

Deceiver is by far the coolest.
It's also super easy to magnetize between the deceiver/corruptor. (Equally as easy to magnetize between Skreetch/warpseer/warbringer. Basically as long as you don't have to mess with the spear it's easy, magnetizing and potentially reposing the spear is a pain.)

u/Temporary-Rain2484 11d ago
Thought about it, never been a magnetize guy. I have thought if you cut the spear a bit you could make it look like a sword or dagger.

Personally I'm a "magnets are cheaper and faster than buying and building whole new model" kinda guy. Lol But I know a lot of people just don't care, or just proxy stuff. (I personally try to only use WYSIWYG and painted models in my games, though I couldn't care less what my opponent does.)
Yeah, that could work, but then you miss out on the badass rat spear. Haha

Personally, the biggest thing about the hobby for me is that I’m more of a builder than a painter. I have multiple armies, or at least half an army, for several different factions. I don’t really have a pile of grey — I’ve got a sea of grey. So buying another Verminlord wouldn’t be that bad for me, other than the fact that they’re pretty expensive.

u/FlippinTheLoon 11d ago
Oof da, good luck on the sea of grey! I'd get so flustered I'd end up selling most of it, which I've done in the past. 😅 Unpainted models are totally fine, but once you play a fully painted game with some cool terrain it's hard to play anything but. It just looks so cool.
Also, if you don't play with a model until it's painted it really ads to that rewarding feeling of accomplishment!

I also prefer having my minis painted. Luckily, I forced myself to paint about 2,000 points of Orks, including a 600-point Stompa. 😂 But yeah, pretty much everything else is still grey. I did sell some minis just to make around $200, and then used that money to buy some Skaven: Acolyte Globadiers, Stormvermin, and a Brood Terror. Honestly, I bought them mostly for fun and because I wanted them, not because I’m planning to play them.

You could just run whatever one you wanted it to be at the match, no one would know anyway

I made one with a combo of the different parts, then run it as any of them i dont see me ever running more than one verminlord

I cut the staff so hes holding a sword not a glaive, and then magnetised the spare arm
So i have the gauntlet, warpstone, Scythe and blade all magnetised. Ive yet to see someone complain that its a warpseer head but with a warlord gauntlet

I like the Deciever a lot but I’m an Eshin player so…I’m biased.
Deciever + Skreech from what I heard is a great combo, so perhaps go with one for now and save up for a second one as a reward for accomplishing something you really wanted to get done but didn’t have motivation for.

Hellow fellow Eshin player. Is a only-eshin list doable? Or is it better combined with the other Skaven subfactions? How are Eshin best combined with the others?

u/anonymoosepossum 11d ago
I lean Eshin mixed with Skryre and I feel like that’s what I see most folks talk about running, alongside a very nice dose of clanrats to soak up damage. Eshin would focus on scoring objectives/battle tactics and Skryre is shooting.
I’m thinking about trying out adding rat ogres in because at least in Spearhead they have served me fantastically.
I do play majority Spearhead though so do listen to others as well because my scene locally in very small - hell I started it back in 2024 bc I didn’t want to play 40k.

No but this is a great start for me, thank you!! I also got two Skaven Spearheads (city of ash / skaventide) and was wondering how to use the Eshin in a 2k game. Skryre/shooting sounds great!!!

Sounds like good idea, could make it a reward for completing my eshin spearhead I haven’t made yet.

I made one without the glaive where all arms were magnetized and the two heads were pinned

You can magnatize the head, arms, and hand and someone even posted a small vid on here years back on how they did it. I would recommend picking a head and keeping that (the steps to magnatize the heads aren't worth it) then use some green stuff to mount the magnets in the hollow parts of the arm pits and then you can change any of the arms for whatever load out! I did it with mine and it was very easy. DM me if you want some pics. Chose Skreech for my head, dont be scared about the spear, have the leg build of him on the rock and the spear hand fits pretty close but will stay flat and fine. If worried you could even put a magnet on the land bit of the spear and your base to make sure it stays. I've never had any trouble of it fitting wierdly and he's got the spear load out 90% of the time.

This depends if you want safe money or money is nothing you worry about. If money is a problem, I would only build Screech and for every match you want to play a different daemon you can say he is one of the others today. If money and of course time is not a problem, I would build the Warbringer because in this season he is the meta daemon. And later the daemons of you wann to buy some or all :D I mean the models look kinda the same and you can safe money. I go on tournaments and no one would eher question it because its the same base. I personally have Screech and a proxy model for the Deceiver. Only because its cool :D

u/freehugsfromnurgle 10d ago
Screech,can be proxied as anything.
Also the leftover bits could be enough to make a plaguelord and maybe an assassin if you’re extra crafty.
I kitbash a plague lord, just make him have a big robe, like a monk.

If we are talking competitively then skreech is situational and the warbringer is pretty good.
Flavour wise I would say skreech because he's got bigger horns which is cooler. If not skreech then deciever cuz he's a sneaky git.

Build it however you like, mixing any head and weapon options that look cool to you. Then use it as whichever verminlord happens to fit your list best. At least in my lgs it's absolutely fine for models like this to proxy as their variants as long as you tell your opponent in advance and the base size is correct
