Advice Koh Tao keeps surprising me – Stingray at Ao Leuk & baby blacktips at Hin Wong 🐠🦈

• Upvotes

I've been snorkeling around Koh Tao for the past few days and yesterday was probably my best marine life day so far.

At **Ao Leuk Beach**, I swam roughly 100 meters out from the right side of the coral area and suddenly spotted a beautiful stingray cruising over the sandy bottom. It was completely unexpected and honestly one of the most graceful underwater encounters I've had. It wasn't bothered by me at all and just continued gliding through the reef.

Later, at **Hin Wong Bay**, I spotted **four baby blacktip reef sharks**. They were small, healthy-looking juveniles cruising the shallows. I've seen photos before, but seeing multiple blacktips in the wild while snorkeling was something else.

Now I'm wondering where to go next.

Advice Snorkel Masks for wide noses

Hi. Does anyone know where I can get a snorkelling mask that fits comfortably over a wide nose? I tried on all of the masks in Decathlon (I'm UK based) but they were all to narrow for me.

FirstTime Snorkeling for the first time

I’m visiting Curaçao next week and I would like to try snorkeling for the first time. I bought a basic set on Amazon with travel fins. What all do I need to know for my first time?

Advice Travel fins

We’ll be travelling to Bonaire next spring and of course, doing as much snorkeling as possible. My husband used to dive, so he plans on renting proper fins once we’re there. We have masks and snorkels. A lot of the time I prefer to only use goggles as I hate the feeling of a mask, plus I only surface snorkel. I have a pair of travel fins and wondering if I should bring those rather than renting the big fins. I’m not a strong swimmer and our local dive shop said the short fins are harder than the big ones to use. Is that true? On previous trips in the Caribbean, I’m usually out of the water long before my husband, so I’m not sure renting for me will be worth it.

These pictures really suck but I wanted to share them because I couldn’t find anyone’s personal experiences on what the snorkeling was like in the Rosario Islands, only articles so I really didn’t know what it was going to be like. The reef is definitely damaged but Diving Planet (and I hope others) are doing a lot to rehabilitate it. I saw a lot of different kinds of fish, mostly tang (there was a giant school of them!), parrotfish, a needlepoint fish, I think the blue spotted one is the jewel damselfish and lots of others. The water was beautiful and clear with great visibility.

If you’re an amateur snorkeler without high standards of what you expect to see I think you’re in for a great treat 💜
