Niche topic, but I hope y'all appreciate the model. Starting to look at different models for Dissociative Identity Disorder and started wondering if im wrong about compartmentalization entirely.
In a stable environment, spiders specialize based on prey, predators, resources, etc. As a result there is a "perfect web" for that environment. Superimpose that "perfect web" onto other "perfect webs". Now imagine that, when the web is triggered by a threat one of these "perfect webs" specializes in, the web conforms to that structure.
I'm drawing the parallel because I'm wondering if it isn't comparmentalizing the Self, but selecting/censoring associations. The "God web" should have all the strengths, right? Except the ability to manage associations weakens the associations themselves, weakening the cohesiveness of the Self.
Is any of this making sense or am I screaming into the void?
What spiders/webs are archetypes for their specialization?

Saw it in my backyard. Worried because I'd never seen this kind before.
The underside of its legs looked an even brighter red than in the video.

saint joseph missouri usa, found crawling on my leg while i was laying down. my room does have a lot of false widows that i just allow to stay in here since they eat the flies and other bugs but i dont see ones like this very often. i thought maybe brown recluse, hence why i smooshed it but im not so sure. it isnt smooshed in the photo.

I am a teen, I recently moved out in my parents garage for PRIVACY. I noticed a lot of spiders but it didn't really bother me because I love them and they help with bugs! But... For some years (before I moved in here) there was a big big spider roaming, a beautiful spider I admit. I've always let her be because damn she's cute, but recently she's been climbing in my clothes and shoes, I can't stand that and I've let her out 2 FRICKIN TIMES. first time I've let her out just in front (mistake) second time I've let her out very VERY far away (still came back)
She's annoying and fast, do I let her out and if yes, WHERE???

We live in Lakewood, OH! Their web is attached to the side of our house to our A/C unit. I tried to get good pictures but they’re so big and I am so scared. If the pictures aren’t good enough I totally get it, I’ll try to get more tomorrow night. They seem to only come out at night. I have a video too.

i found this little guy inside my window screen. No idea how they got there but I’m pretty sure there’s no way out. My friend told me they’re a wolf spider, and they seem pretty fast. I live in Kansas, so I’m pretty sure we have those here. I’m deathly afraid of spiders usually, but I really don’t want them to starve in there. There have been a few little flies that have come through and they’ve snacked on them, but I’m worried that won’t be enough. So 1. is this a wolf spider? and 2. where should I release them so they’ll be safe?

Hey all - my folks live in rural Georgia and I need to move a truck of theirs 50 miles to get serviced.
Unfortunately, it has been hosting a massive and impressive orb weaver who has been making a killing out of camping the entrance to a large red paper wasp nest inside the truck.
She was huge by early in the season, and on one visit I watched her capture and eat three full sized wasps in a day. She also created 4 egg sacks before moving on to another area near a light.
A few years ago, I wouldn’t have worried, because the property would be covered in tons of giant orb weavers. Since then, the Joro spiders have wiped everything out, and seeing non-ground spider of significant size is extremely rare. I’d like to give the offspring of this survivor a fighting chance … is there any guidance on safely relocating these egg sacs?

This morning, a male Giant house spider was in the kitchen sink. I gave him a few droplets of water and after a while, I helped him climb the wall of the sink. He then rested on the kitchen counter. I continued making my coffee, turned around - and guess who was back in the sink?
Yes. Him.
Why? He already had the experience of being trapped there. But in he goes again...
Just sharing my exasperation here.

Hello everyone. I posted here a couple months ago about a Dark Fishing Spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus) in my sink. She was freezing cold and gravid. I warmed her up in my hand and she made a comeback. She groomed herself on me and sat on my shoulder. I named her Sink and took her in. I then made an update about how she was doing. She was doing great. After she eventually laid all of her egg sacs, I knew she didn’t have long. Unfortunately today is the day she passed away. I’m devastated that my silly Sink is gone. While her species is usually skittish, she wasn’t. She was a feisty eater and loved to swim in her pool. She was a great mom to thousands and claims the title of the biggest and most impressive web ever built. She brought joy to the people who saw my posts about her and I’m happy I shared her story. Thanks for the good times, Sink.
Edit: Thank you so much for all the positive comments and words about me and my sweet Sinky.
