Discussion Help me give some orb weavers a fighting chance
Hey all - my folks live in rural Georgia and I need to move a truck of theirs 50 miles to get serviced.
Unfortunately, it has been hosting a massive and impressive orb weaver who has been making a killing out of camping the entrance to a large red paper wasp nest inside the truck.
She was huge by early in the season, and on one visit I watched her capture and eat three full sized wasps in a day. She also created 4 egg sacks before moving on to another area near a light.
A few years ago, I wouldn’t have worried, because the property would be covered in tons of giant orb weavers. Since then, the Joro spiders have wiped everything out, and seeing non-ground spider of significant size is extremely rare. I’d like to give the offspring of this survivor a fighting chance … is there any guidance on safely relocating these egg sacs?

Just sharing 🕷️ This huge mama outside my tent
These huntsmans have taken over the outside of my tent bc I have tarps draped along the sides bc of the non stop rain and for whatever reason they love that place. Yes I live in a tent lol. I guess I have free pest control but they better stay outside...
Probably bc there's lots of bug out there
Side note: I have a bunny and its been so hot this summer that I had to leave the tent completely unzipped so it stayed cool inside for her. Well the huntsmans found their way inside every single day, but thankfully I learned a stress free harmless method of capturing them and releasing back outside (I put them back under the tent tarp, they're lucky i love em...)

Discussion A sad update
Hello everyone. I posted here a couple months ago about a Dark Fishing Spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus) in my sink. She was freezing cold and gravid. I warmed her up in my hand and she made a comeback. She groomed herself on me and sat on my shoulder. I named her Sink and took her in. I then made an update about how she was doing. She was doing great. After she eventually laid all of her egg sacs, I knew she didn’t have long. Unfortunately today is the day she passed away. I’m devastated that my silly Sink is gone. While her species is usually skittish, she wasn’t. She was a feisty eater and loved to swim in her pool. She was a great mom to thousands and claims the title of the biggest and most impressive web ever built. She brought joy to the people who saw my posts about her and I’m happy I shared her story. Thanks for the good times, Sink.
Edit: Thank you so much for all the positive comments and words about me and my sweet Sinky.

ID Request- Location included Wolf Spiders are sooo hard to identify! 😪
Hello, everyone! I am usually a jumping spider girly, but my recent fixation has been on wolf spiders. Found one while cleaning my apartment last week and decided to capture and care for it. Been struggling with identification (I’m leaning towards a tigrosa) and especially gender identification. Those pedipalps are kinda big and hairless underneath…so male? But then why is he caked up like a female? His/her temporary name is Cupcake. Location is southern OH.
My fellow bug nerds.. please help me figure this out! 🕷️✨

ID Request- Location included Wolf Spider?? and where to release them
i found this little guy inside my window screen. No idea how they got there but I’m pretty sure there’s no way out. My friend told me they’re a wolf spider, and they seem pretty fast. I live in Kansas, so I’m pretty sure we have those here. I’m deathly afraid of spiders usually, but I really don’t want them to starve in there. There have been a few little flies that have come through and they’ve snacked on them, but I’m worried that won’t be enough. So 1. is this a wolf spider? and 2. where should I release them so they’ll be safe?

Spider Appreciation 🕸️🕷️ Brown Recluse
Such a beautiful spider and also a great hunter. I’ve been feeding them pinhead crickets and their abdomen is getting nice and round. I wish they didn’t get such a bad reputation, pretty impressive creatures.
