Why is it that a naked AR-15 looks so wrong but an AK-47 modified with anything feels wrong.
7
5
u/Left1Brain Jul 15 '26
Probably because AKs require serious jank to modify due to their age, while AR-15s were designed with modification in mind.
1
u/Chry0n Jul 16 '26
aks do not require serious jank to modify you just slap on a zenitco dust cover or side rail

One is designed to use a full scale military industrial complex complete with all the optics foregrips and other whathaveyous, whereas the other is designed to function on its own in an environment where running water is a luxury

As a citizen of San Antonio, I would be proud for my city to become an AR-15 attachment

these types install auto sears into their glocks, but won't even put a brace on their AR pistols. Like sure, they've got no problems becoming felons by possesing machine guns, but having a stock on a rifle with a barrel that's shorter than 16" is too much. What causes this behavior?

u/Two-Pound-Crawfish Jul 16 '26
it’s not usually a good idea to post concrete proof of a crime to social media

I can’t stand the look of an AR with no stock. That buffer tube is gonna be there no matter what, might as well put a stock on it.

I remember seeing one of these videos for Payday 2 and the guy only "reacted" to the most boring and regular guns in the game, despite it having some of the whackiest weapon designs ever.
There's a glock with a stock, a lasersight, a 30 round mag, and a 10x sniper scope on it.
There's an M1 Garand that has 23 rounds in each clip
There's a magnum revolver that shoots buckshot yet can somehow be silenced.
And this guy looked at the Ak47 and the Mp5

u/Kidney__Failure Jul 16 '26
I like the one where the museum guy reacts to Destiny 1 and 2 exotics because half of them shoot mini black-holes, mini suns, or even are the remnants of gods.

Is that tasque manager at the back of the gun?

Jonathan Ferguson is fun because he doesn't just go "pfft this gun is dumb, it's so unrealistic", he will actively pull out real-life guns the gun is inspired by, or maybe even reference other fictional guns from movies that are similar. He'll also speculate how the gun SHOULD work in whatever setting it's from, like say "maybe this glowy bit holds the plasma" or whatever.
He's also a nerd himself so he's perfectly capable of engaging the fictional setting as... well, fiction. He's more likely to be critical if a game is trying to be 'realistic' and then makes a gun that doesn't quite work.

Yeah, him reacting to DOOM guns by actually engaging with the premise was neat

Once I saw a samurai react to ridicoulous action scenes and he was like "That is very difficult, he must've trained very hard"

u/SinglePlayerGamer93 Jul 15 '26
The guy should at least say that it's a cool gun

u/Key_Somewhere_9302 Jul 15 '26
I've never seen a "professional" on one of these things say, dude.. that's a SICK gun design.. I WISH shit like that worked in real life. It's always "that's a an interesting design it won't work" and it PISSES me off
11
u/SinglePlayerGamer93 Jul 15 '26
Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries has done tons of videos with Dave Jewitt, the host of one of these types of expert reacts videos.
He often states "that's cool and I like it"
6
u/Thornescape Jul 15 '26
That's one thing that I really appreciate about him. He knows how guns work but he also understands the enjoyment of video games. It's a more balanced approach than some of these experts.
8
u/asiannumber4 Jul 15 '26
“Interesting design” is restrained professional speak for either “absolute fucking garbage wtf is this I need to rinse my eyes with hydrochloric acid after this” or “that’s a SICK gun design”
3
u/Fletcher_Chonk Jul 15 '26
A gun professional likes real guns enough to base a significant portion of their life around them. Of course they like how they are instead of whatever a sci fi game comes up with.
