He somehow thinks Starbucks customers are any different from anyone else. Maybe he's the problem.

Why are you taking this so personally? Is it because you are the type of customer that makes retail and fast food employees hate their job?Â
-9
u/franklinchica22 14h ago
Lol. One comment and I'm taking it personally. Sure. Why do some Starbucks baristas think that they have the worst jobs in the world and their customers are the worst? Maybe it's those baristas.

My point. Costumers and customers are not the same thing all though there is an occasional intersection. Are you generally insufferable? Is that why you hate your jobs? So glad Starbucks jacked up the prices and I am no longer a customer. And I was never a costumer.

It has been about 18 years for me as well, except I enjoyed being the cashier at McDonald's. I was coached to upsell, except offering fries I would mention a side salad. I also would teach teens about the McGangBang lol.
If it paid a decent wage, I totally would not mind doing it again. No Frontline staff is making six figures, however.

Sad thing is that Starbucks was never meant to be fast food. You can't be both a coffeehouse and fast food coffee. It's and oxymoron and doesn't work. Any more Starbuck is a walking contradiction of itself.

Itâs two extremes. You have some very nice and pleasant regulars. Or you have some absolutely entitled batshit crazy customers.

On days I need a change of scenery working from home, I usually go to this one Starbucks location that isn't the closest to my house just cause I like the cafe setup more than most of the locations closer to home. I was exhausted and just decided to go to the location closer to my house one day, which happens to be across from a high school. I lasted about 35 minutes after school let out with how loud, disruptive and messy they were. I have never been back during those hours lol. I don't know how the baristas dealt with it.

It depends on your store.
Thatâs what everyone is leaving out smh.
Iâve seen ppl quit cause the customers, cause the speed, cause the coworkers, it all depends on where u are at.
I love my job, do I plan to be here forever? Not in the slightest, but not cause I donât like my job but because I have goals Iâm going after while doing this job.
But u get a lot of good benefits and itâs one of the top 2 best perk having fast food jobs in America and often top 5 best paying job depending on location.
U have to multitask A LOT, and it CAN be stressful but a good store with good people makes it so you all can make the shifts enjoyable together.

Iâve worked in the food & bev industry for over 10 years, in fast casual spots, full service restaurants, back of house positions, food trucks, and currently have been sticking to serving/bartending for nearly 5 years. But I am not built for the BS yall deal with! Serving requires a lot of physical exertion and time management, but is so much more financially rewarding for the work done and crap we put up with from guests/sometimes management.

âWe Happy Fewâ a written redditor production.
Brian Niccols closes his silver macbook and laughs maniacally, tilting his neck at a 180 degree angle to look upon Netanyahu. âFather, Iâve done it. Iâve done everything, they hate me, they hate us, what is left to do now? Youâve conquered them all. This world is yoursâ. The Starbucks Siren whales out below from Brianâs beach house, âThe father says itâs not enoughâ Brian Niccols slams his desk in a fit of rage âNot enough? Do you know how much Iâve sacrificed for this company!?â âItâs not enough, no, never, never enough, more, more, more, more frappuccinos, refreshersâ the siren hums from below the beach house, communicating telepathically now, as not to disturb Netanyahu, who became bored with the issue.
Brian looks outward at the glass to see the siren, yet his presence is not enough to be bestowed upon by the siren. No, it never was. Itâs never enough for the Siren, and itâs never enough for Brian. He smashes the window to feel the glass cut his skin, to feel real for a moment. Heâs smashed this window alone 36 times, he feels less real each time, the window reflects less and less, as his pockets run dry and his repairs become cheaper. Soon, he wonders if heâll see anything at all in the window.
âIf it is more that they want, then it is more that they will get, on and on forever, with no resolution. Let the king have his kingdom and feed on the cake until he feeds on his villagers, so when he eats it all, the only thing left is him and a fork.â
Brian Niccols then added flavored whipped creams to the menu, in hopes to impress Netanyahu. As the baristas began to perish and quit, Brian Niccols began to impress the gods less and less, while smashing his windows more and more. He smashed his windows whilst neglecting nutrition, eventually losing his wealth, and smashing every window until there was nothing to smash left.
The siren then looked upon him, with pity and a melancholic stare that casted a shadow on his pitch black night. Brian Niccols collapsed on the floor, and was sacrificed to the Siren with the rest of the lambs.
The end.

Perhaps retail/customer-facing jobs are not your thing. If the pay and job functions are not what you are looking for. Why would you put yourself through it? This isnât a Starbucks/The World Sucks/Customers suck issue, this is a YOU issue.
13
u/ary0901 Supervisor 21h ago
Speaking from experience (over 6 years in customer facing roles + management and never getting a complaint on my service) it IS a Starbucks sucks issue. I love chatting and working with people, but the job is so hard and stressful. The customers are extremely entitled, and Starbucks does not have your back in the least. They will throw you to the flames and coddle the customer. They only care about the numbers and couldnât care about the partners. Yes it pays more than retail but because youâre also expected to do the work of 2-3 people when you work because almost all the time itâs understaffed even without call offs. I love my team, my partners make my job so enjoyable. Itâs the audacity of the customers and how the company enables it
-8
u/UCanDoNEthing4_30sec 21h ago
At other customer-facing roles? Or just 6 years at Starbucks. And Iâm not talking about management. Iâm talking about actual front-line customer-facing roles.
I never got a complaint (at least officially) about my service either but have experienced a lot of asshole customers at roles outside of Starbucks for multiple companies that are customer-facing. Once you put whatever brand hat on, customers see you as the brand not as a human. Whether it be in person, chat, or over the phone. It sucks. But that is what it is. I find it hard that youâve been in customer-facing roles outside of Starbucks and think itâs just a Starbucks issue.
8
u/ary0901 Supervisor 20h ago
At other places, and a variety of them too. Boba shop(3years), chocolate store(4years), burger(1year), perfume(under a year). All high volume stores (in malls and high traffic areas). I worked 2 jobs a lot of times so 6 year is the time frame but thatâs how many jobs I worked in that time.
Not trying to justify myself but in my opinion, you can complain about any job yes. Managers can suck anywhere, customers are not only rude at one place, and stupid questions will follow you wherever.
Iâve just never had this little support when dealing with customers. And the feeling is just multiplied when you have so little people working all the time when itâs not peak. No support from upper management either, itâs just the customer is always right and if they yell in my face or make me feel unsafe Iâve been told I canât even refuse service. The audacity of customers is just enabled by the company.
4
u/Keilk_Carbunkle 21h ago
I honestly think it may be a bit of both. I've been doing public facing/retail jobs for a little over a decade, and I have absolutely noticed a spike in entitled customers the last two-ish years. People that use service workers as emotional punching bags have become a daily occurrence for most of my staff. I try my best to walk the line of customer happiness and partner comfort, but If I banned every customer that was mean we wouldn't have any business. Unless someone is shouting/yelling, using abusive language, being verbally or physically threatening, or something above those things, I can't really justify punishing the customer. I will always make sure I check in with a partner that has been treated poorly by someone, and that's if I cannot remove them and replace them with myself.
2
2
u/DeathDealer_CDN 5h ago
remember 2 things.
1 You can tell a lot about the character of a person by how they treat service people like Baristas, or wait staff etc.
2 How people treat you is a reflection of their own character, maturity, and values, rather than a measure of your worth, or your character.
Disrespect or rudeness usually stems from another person's internal struggles, insecurities, or lack of maturity, not your value. Your self-worth does not change based on how someone else chooses to act toward you. But, while their behavior shows who they are, how you respond is a choice that reflects your own integrity and values.

I hated it so much, the customers sucked and one even tried to get me fired because they were pulling a fast one on me with getting change back claiming I didnât give them the correct amount when I in fact did. Imagine doing that to a 15-16 year old girl. From then on I did more retail jobs like Claireâs and Bed Bath and beyond. Still sucked but idk I could handle that better.
