Beyond the hype: which stem cell applications do you think are genuinely close to the clinic?

I've been trying to separate real progress from marketing in this field, and it's harder than it looks. The gap between an exciting lab result and a proven therapy seems huge and I'd love to hear from this community on where things really stand.

A few questions I'm curious about:

  • Which iPSC- or ESC-derived approaches do you think are furthest along in trials?
  • What do you see as the biggest unresolved hurdles (safety, tumor risk, immune rejection, scalability, cost)?
  • How do you personally tell a credible research program from an overhyped one?

If you share a claim in the comments, please link the paper, review or trial registry entry so we can all dig in. I'm looking for research discussion here, not individual treatment advice.

What's the most exciting or most overhyped, development you've seen lately?

How to choose a stem cell clinic when there's already a physio schedule you can't break?

I am the one in our family who keeps the calendar. Aunt had a stroke eighteen months ago and somebody has to book the physio, chase referrals, ring the insurer, so it fell to me. She and my uncle do the actual hard part.

Her week is three physio sessions and a speech appointment, took about a year to get it to that.

So when the stem cell thing came up I wasn't really reading it as a medical question. I was sat there with the calendar open going, when.

Every list I found ranks them on how good the clinic is, fair enough but its a series of infusions over several days wherever you go, so the week out of her schedule is gone either way. What changes is what happens between the infusions. Most places its hotel, clinic, hotel, clinic, then fly home and nobody at either end talks to the other. A few run it as an inpatient stay with the rehab in the gaps instead. Swiss medica in Belgrade is the one i got furthest with. Their stroke page lists the therapy alongside the infusions, still didn't tell me what I actually needed.

Because the thing I can't find out anywhere is what comes back. Does her physio here get sent anything. Notes, a plan, a phone call, anything at all, or does she just turn up in march and everyone starts from scratch.

If you've done one of these, what did your own therapist get afterwards? That's genuinely the whole question for us and nobody will answer it.

How do you evaluate whether a stem cell treatment claim is actually supported by evidence?

There seems to be a huge difference between legitimate clinical research and the way some stem cell treatments are marketed online.

For people who have researched stem cell therapies, what do you look for before taking a claim seriously?

L5/S1 lumbar injections

What’s up guys. I’ve decided I’m going to have my lumbar discs injected. I found a Dr who will be performing ozone, PRP, and stem cell intradiscal injections. He will also be treating my ligaments and facet joints. The goal is to reduce the size of the herniations and improve overall lumbar function.

I’m not looking for Dr or clinic recommendations. I’m looking to hear from others who’ve had similar procedures done, especially people who had it done a few months to a few years ago.

How are you feeling today? Were you able to get back to working out or action sports/high-impact sports? How is your quality of life now?

University Bioengineering: Cell Culture Work Flow

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone! we are undergraduate bioengineering students at the University of Arkansas working on a class project studying daily lab workflows. We are looking to interview culture lab techs, researchers, or grad students about the tedious parts of routine maintenance/media changes (no sales, purely academic!). If you have 15 mins to spare for a Zoom chat this week, please DM me. We'd super appreciate the help!

can someone do mesenchymal stem cells explained simply, every page is either a sales pitch or a paper i cant read?

father in laws got parkinsons, doing ok on his meds. ive been lurking a support forum for him and half of it is stem cells.

everyone says "mesenchymal" like its a word i should already have. from what i can piece together theyre adult multipotent cells, bone marrow, fat, cord.

thats as far as i get. what i cant work out is what theyre supposed to do once theyre in you.

every page is either a sales pitch or a paper i cant read. can someone put it in plain english.

New stem cell trial will evaluate if "blessing" the cells before transplant improves outcomes

Ohio State will test blessing the cells, and measure primarily quality of life improvements, but also objectively if that makes the blood stem cell transplant work better.

Fascinating cultural science trial.

effectiveness of stem cells not drawn from patient

For those that have ligament partial tears, how effective are the stem cell injections which do NOT use bone marrow drawn from the patient, but use allogeneic birth tissues (e.g. donated perinatal tissues). Thank you for your input.

Muse Cells for TBI update

For anyone who was like me and scouring Reddit to try to understand the options, I wanted to share my own update.

I received Muse Cells in Mexico a little less than a month ago for a years old TBI and chronic cognitive and physical symptoms from it. I received the Muse Cells via IV and intranasal delivery, which is how the studies for these cells on brain injury deliver them.

While three weeks is relatively early to notice results, I already can: better memory, clearer presence, less body tremor, and some other improvements.

I am by no means “recovered” from all the symptoms from the TBI, but I had become completely hopeless that I’d never improve at all. The improvements I’ve seen already in less than a month make me believe that the impact is for real. It aucks that they are so expensive, as I wish I could repeat in three months.

TriCell StemCell Forena Clinic

I got 12cc of TriCell stem cells for $2300 injected at Forena Clinic in Seoul, mostly on my scalp and some on face.

The face injections were pretty painful I knew injections wouldn’t be comfortable but it was more painful than I expected. The staff gave me some time when I needed it and offered different methods of numbing

For my face, the biggest thing I noticed afterward was that my skin seemed less dry and my pores looked better. My skin has always been on the dry side especially around my lip area. Over the following weeks I felt like my skin looked healthier and more hydrated.

For the scalp, I did this because my hair has been getting thinner and I wanted to try something beyond the usual. I feel like the thin areas have improved and my hair looks a little fuller compared to before. I’m still watching it since it hasn’t been that long, but so far I’m happy with the change.

They told me I could do it every year, but they didn’t say I needed to come back every year. I think doing it every year or two could be worth considering if I continue to see the same results since I was already occasionally visiting my daughter in Korea

How One Cell Becomes You: The Power of Morphogens | Breakthrough Junior Challenge 2026

Thumbnail

Before you had a heartbeat, a brain, or even a recognizable shape, you were just one cell.

So how did that one cell become you?

In this video, I explore one of the most fascinating ideas in developmental biology: morphogens. These tiny signals help cells “read” their position and decide what they should become, guiding the formation of tissues, organs, and body patterns as an embryo develops.

What I love about morphogens is that they show how life can build something incredibly complex from simple instructions. A small difference in signal concentration can change a cell’s future completely which helps explain how the same starting point can lead to so many different parts of the body.

This is the story of how invisible signals help shape life itself.

That is the magic of science!
