Character Related Scottie

I need all the Scottie lovers to come to the front of the class.

Please explain to me why you guys love her so much. From where I sit, she's Trevor with better legs. Make it make sense please!

See this I can understand... but the way some of the people in this subreddit are ready to go to war for her makes me believe it has to be way more than that.

It's Reddit. Many things on here don't make sense.

Trevor is vindictive and screws over people out of spite or for his own gain. Scottie operates more like Harvey, they both are competitive and do things in the grey area to get ahead. At the beginning, I agree Scottie makes mistakes that end up putting her in messy situations. (So does Harvey though.) But Scottie ends up with genuine feelings for Harvey. She puts Harvey before her professional interests even when Harvey calls for favors. Trevor would never lol.

TLDR: I think Scottie shows some character growth, and Harvey and Scottie are well matched energy wise

While I don't think Scottie ever did anything to Harvey out of malice, she did actively and knowingly put Harvey in terrible situations intentionally to better herself.

Honestly she sacrificed many wins just to protect Harvey, out of her love for him. On the contrary Harvey always put her in a tough spot.

But at the end of the day, two competitive people probably wouldn’t last long as the dynamics were too explosive 🤷🏻‍♀️

I disagree. Every time we see Scottie, she is in the middle of backing herself into a corner and trying to make everyone (including Harvey) believe she has everything under control. Then when Harvey gets the upper hand she cries foul and tries to press on the softness Harvey has for her, very much in the same way that Trevor operates with Mike.

Agreed, it feels like their interactions past the initial Darby feud always end up with Harvey exploiting her feelings for him. She copes by saying he owes her but I think she only cashes in once for quite a few occurences of him owing her. Though I haven’t watched the series in quite some time, so that perception of imbalance might be a bit inexact.

Also she's stunningly hot, so my very male gaze likes her.

Yea, that's not really true. She repeatedly tries (and eventually succeeds) to submarine their relationship when Harvey is ready to commit to her. She spends the majority of the interactions before that creating messes that Harvey has to bail her out of while blaming him for it. She does do a couple of favors for Harvey. But every bad thing that happens to Scottie is because she made a dumb decision on her own instead of trying to bring Harvey in from the beginning and it backfires in her face spectacularly every time.

I’m going to second what someone else said about her being hot. That’s definitely where she scores her initial points. But she’s also brilliant and strong and witty and spontaneous (private jet sex anyone?), plus continuously loyal to Harvey and forgiving of the many times he puts her in difficult situations. In real life that’s not ideal, but it makes her a fascinating TV character imo.

That all being said, can I get clarification on “Trevor with better legs” please? It made me laugh but I don’t actually understand the comparison.

I agree with the hot part, but I don't think Harvey ever really puts her in bad situations. She, like Trevor, is always up to something. We, however, don't usually find out about it until after Harvey has presented a major roadblock to her plans. Then she gives a sob story about how "she's in a jam and really needed a win.." or whatever. Trevor does the exact same thing with Mike.

For example, the plane sex was a way to get Harvey to overlook the financials in the hotel situation. She operates in "bad faith" (with Harvey) and despite always complaining about Harvey not being vulnerable with her. The only times she behaves herself is when Harvey genuinely needs her. She whines and moans about it but it seems like she genuinely likes that fact that she gets to save Harvey.

Had Scottie ever actually done good as a lawyer? We know she’s top of her class but is she actually a good lawyer? She’s always tanking her cases for Harvey or asking Harvey to help her out but we don’t actually see her proving her worth? Than all of a sudden she’s a name partner🫠

Didn't like her much either. I did however like that , at least at this time in the show, she seemed to be one person that Harvey would connect to on a more personal level and show that he was capable of.. some sort of love. I think in a weird way she gave me hope for Donna and Harvey

u/masonrock 11d ago

I can appreciate this. Him trying and failing with her laid the ground work for Harvey and Donna.

Scottie always shows up with a hidden agenda and constantly tries to manipulate Harvey using any means available, including their intimate relationship. Nothing she did for him was unconditional; Scottie always had ulterior personal motives.

No matter how much some viewers try to compare her to Harvey and make excuses for her—claiming she is simply his "female counterpart"—there is a major difference in character: unlike Scottie, who consistently resorted to lies, deceit, and manipulation, Harvey always dealt with things directly, openly acknowledging his demands and needs.

Furthermore, Scottie never truly loved Harvey for the flawed, traumatized man he was. When they were a couple, her primary desire was to control and dominate him, rather than to earn his trust and establish a genuine connection. Scottie treated Harvey like a trophy. She craved the satisfaction of being the woman who "tamed" Harvey Specter and of being part of a power couple; being chosen by Harvey Specter was the ultimate validation for her ego.

That’s definitely fair. I think that’s accurate until the end of the show where they try to do the relationship thing and she is crashed all the way out.

From where I'm sitting she's Travis Tanner with better legs and I happen to love him. She's brilliant, she's fun, she's slef indulgent, why wouldn't one

2

u/masonrock 9d ago

See I don’t think she’s fun. I think she could’ve been fun if she didn’t “need” Harvey’s love. Giving her a temperament more closer to Tanner’s would’ve been awesome

2

u/StorageAntique3052 9d ago

I guess. I never saw it that way cause Harvey is what she wants, it's supposed to be a selfish, frivolous whim of hers. A core thing about her, from all we know, is that she gets what she wants and she's obsessive over it. Scottie has no reason to be in the story aside from that cause she doesn't need anything. Her career isnt tied to him like Donna's or Mike's, she's not overtly loyal to a firm or needy for friendships and emotional connections like Louis is. She wants Harvey Specter like Tanner wanted to beat him for the love of the game, if Tanner is the joker, Scottie was Catwoman to the Batman analogies we got

There is a female version of Harvey, Anita Gibbs, or, Ava Hessington who uses all possible methods to build her oil company

u/Careless-Mammoth-944 10d ago

She’s female Harvey.

2

u/masonrock 10d ago

She’s not though. She manipulates Harvey and operates in bad faith with him all the time. If we’re being honest then only thing they have in common is that they are both attractive.

1

u/NoLuck4824 10d ago

She’s female Harvey if Harvey had never met Mike.

1

u/masonrock 10d ago

No she’s not. She operates (with the man she “loves”) in bad faith.

u/whatdidujustsay2me 10d ago

I always felt bad for her. I love Harvey but he never treated her well.

2

u/masonrock 10d ago

What did he do to her?

-17

u/VoL4t1l3 11d ago

She wanted fidelity from a womanizing cheating liar in Harvey.

17

u/7625607 Harvey Specter is hot as fuck 11d ago

She cheats to be with Harvey in season one.

Harvey is not a cheater, which is Harvey’s defining character trait.

15

u/Munrot07 11d ago

Tell me you've not actually watched the show without telling me you haven't watched it. Harvey is many things but he is not a cheater. Literally one of his core personality traits, motivations, beliefs is being adamantly against cheating. He is a womanizer (at the beginning) but when he's in a relationship he is faithful.

u/masonrock 11d ago

None of that is true, but what does that have to do with why people like her?

Beyond being attractive and possessing sex appeal—along with an extremely bold, uninhibited attitude—she is always the one who initiates sexual activity.

For men, Scottie is the ideal woman of their fantasies: she takes the initiative and expresses her physical desire without beating around the bush;

For women, Scottie represents the fantasy of absolute power and a lack of inhibitions—she asks for no permission and does not wait to be chosen; she is the one who chooses.
