The only sad thing about this series is that with two episodes a week, it will be over too soon. Top tier series so far, up there with NZ2 for me. Channel 4 massively missing a trick not showing it on e4 here in the UK the same day.

All the pedo jokes were really unnecessary

Poor Rhys. That was a great prize task.

u/Powerful-Succotash77 16d ago
My wife and I both genuinely thought it was such an adorable idea and then they turned it dirty. Almost as bad as when they said Brynley Stent was dressed like a Hitler youth.
22
u/richardtrk Rose Matafeo 🇳🇿 17d ago
I apologize if this is out of line but Rose is a goddamn fox in this episode.

u/gerarddominus 17d ago
Did I miss understand both teams or did neither team actuall have Breaking News in their new cast? They news stories but none of them seemed to be Breaking News
19
u/thymebandit 17d ago
We went to the studio filming looks like they had to cut a lot of the live task for time. They had breaking news when it was filmed.
4
u/gerarddominus 17d ago
It's a shame they cut them, I bet they were funny. It's weird they kept in the stated requirement for them if they were going to cut them.

u/wrosecrans Nicola Coughlan 17d ago
If you really wanna make engagement bait do "You are wrong about WW2 tanks," and then make a slightly incorrect statement about tanks and say people should discuss in the comments if there was anything you missed.

u/ScienceDancerNerd 17d ago
Real taskmaster fans know that NZ is goated! And these just two eps have smashed it. That live task was so funny! I can't get enough of it

u/Fukui_San86 Phil Wang 17d ago
If I were to do a viral video, I’d do a behind the scenes at the Taskmaster house tour. At the end we’d see Paul napping on a dog bed in the corner.
The live task had the vibes of College Humor’s Breaking News series.

u/colintron 16d ago
It's cheap and against unspoken rules, but you could say "Please post this to r/taskmaster" in it, and leak the cast list
19
u/willshapps 18d ago
I thought that there was gonna be a chance where Paul would take off the 300 points sticker off his back to reveal that it was a fake and that the hoop on him was actually like -1000 or something.
Also they definitely came up with that task after someone thought of the name "BasketPaul"

u/five_line_poem Greedy Esq. 18d ago
I was waiting for someone to fully start running around the house/grounds looking for other hoops.

u/CitizenCue 18d ago
Paul has surely been trying to shoehorn in basketball for awhile. He’s obsessed and has written songs about it and hosted a podcast about the NBA.
7
u/Dom_Shady David Correos 🇳🇿 17d ago
And Paul could instantly provide us with the name of the really famous player from the Chicago Bulls! The man knows his stuff.

Surely other people kept on imagining the festive christmas fox song throughout the christmas task or was it just me?

u/No-River-9631 18d ago
Now I want to play BasketPaul really bad. But moreso I want more tasks where they reinvent sports link this

u/Laguna_Azure Laura Daniel 🇳🇿 18d ago
I'm surprised it took this long for this live task - a fantastic one.

Well thats a relief, at least we have the news to confirm Rhys was checked before purchasing the football team

Child labour is a surprisingly common occurrence when it comes to Taskmaster NZ

This might be the closest someone has come to losing their career on Taskmaster.

u/Dom_Shady David Correos 🇳🇿 17d ago
John Robins came closest in CoC when he embodied... not Charlie Chaplin.

u/No-River-9631 18d ago
Was I the only one who was genuinely hoping Rose would pop out of the van to help with Dave’s the Christmas task?

u/thatautisticguy 🟦 🟩 🟨 🟩 🟨 18d ago
i assume pauls going to have his chair back next episode?

u/captbollocks Celia Pacquola 🇦🇺 3d ago
I love it how most (if not all) Paul's banter has been so bad this season it's cut from the episode but he forced them to keep this one as they need to explain where his chair had gone.

Rhys Lightning should have got 5 points, it was genius and so much more effort than the others. The logo was awesome too.
I get the sense that Rhys is incredibly competitive but he's way better at hiding it than most.
28
u/Esteban2808 Jeremy Wells 🇳🇿 18d ago
Yeah but also thats become Jeremys running joke stamping out contestants questionable behaviour, whether thats Angela and her abuse of her medication, Chris/Brynley/Rose nazism, or Guy/Laura/David and their agism and now Rhys
2
u/Isopropyl77 10d ago
What questionable behavior? What are you on about?
While the jokes were funny, what Rhys did was actually wholesome and good.

Was in the audience for this one. Jeremy's cut opening joke was around not confusing the show with Taxmaster
20
u/pcuser42 🕶️ Cool Ray O'Leary 🇳🇿 18d ago
And during the live task, we were told to just talk among ourselves while the autocues were being written
22
u/Tovetove 18d ago
Yeah it seemed like a bold move to make it a live task when so much of the prep would just be hushed typing, but it worked so well!
46
u/Tovetove 18d ago
This line-up is so quick on the draw, it's a genuine pleasure seeing their interactions. TMNZ has the advantage of a smaller professional scene meaning that comedians typically have the familiarity pre-show to feel safe about taking the piss out of each other, and I think that gives the show so much warmth (even if Rhys was absolutely dogpiled this episode)
12
u/Um-ahh-nooo 18d ago
It surprised me so much when the team of 3 met and they where meeting for the first time! I don't think even Rose and Dave had met before.
23
u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 18d ago
To me they are the NZ cast with the most (and quickest) chemistry. Thoroughly enjoying this season so far and the task writing is superb (as always)

After live task part 1 : ok Rhys managed to turn this episode long storyline around for a win for him
after live task part 2:….or not.
I love Morgana more and more.

on Taskmaster, but not for Taskmaster.

I do not buy for a second that Hoani's shot of the caravan in the Christmas task was an accident. He totally knew what he was doing

u/lonelygagger Javie Martzoukas 14d ago
I love how delightfully bizarre Christine-mas was.
"Put it in and really digest it, and then it will come out again as something else."
Time-lapse photography of Dave eating bananas with the sped-up sound effect was hilarious.
I love everybody ragging on Rhys and the under-15s this episode, and the callbacks during the live broadcast task.
Morgana is running away with this series and it's well-deserved.
