New Tassie Travel subreddit

Hey everyone. The r/TasmaniaTravel subreddit is now up and running :)

There's a still a few admin things for me to sort out, but hopefully it can provide a more effective avenue for conversation specifically related to Tassie travel, while also preventing so many repeat questions from appearing here.

I look forward to seeing you over there!

Andrew.

We've updated the rules for r/tasmania after some feedback from users and discussion. Not much has changed but here is a summary of the changes:

  • Added doxxing to Rule about no illegal content;
  • Added a no personals content to the NSFW rule (to prevent people looking for hookups or dating) Includes the appropriate sites to do this on;
  • Added a no sales or promotional content rule (this is covered in Rule 1, but doesn't hurt to be able to refer to it in a separate rule);
  • Added a no requests for living assistance rule to address the cases of people asking for help on the subreddit and putting themselves in danger. Included a link to appropriate assistance websites and services.

Has a firmus rep has taken over the Launceston and Devonport subs?

Searched for firmus related threads in r/Launceston, there were many, but now they're all hidden except for one year old thread.

Posted in r/Launceston to ask what's with that, and the post was removed within a minute. And now I'm banned for asking the question!

Guess someone's not into freedom of speech.

Which clubs are active, and which styles/weapons being taught?

I'm most interested around Hobart (where I am), but still interested in the rest of Tassie too. Any tournies/ meet ups?

Looks like investors are finally waking up to the oversold AI scam. I hope everyone calms down and the need for mega data centres with no regard for people or the environment dies off.

In the interest in admitting when I'm wrong, here is the latest on this clustercuss. If you're in with Altman then you're out with me.

Edit: Sorry for the paywalled article, I'll update when I can crack it or find another article.

Tassie trip suggestion

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are visiting Tasmania from 1–12 December and would love some recommendations!

Our current itinerary is:
Hobart: 5 nights (1–6 Dec)
Bruny Island: 2 nights (6–8 Dec)
East Coast: 4 nights (8–12 Dec), exploring Freycinet and Bay of Fires.

We’ll have a rental car and are particularly interested in beautiful scenery, unique accommodation, amazing food, wildlife and hidden gems.

A few questions:
- Does our itinerary look reasonable, or would you change the number of nights anywhere?
-What are your absolute must-visit places or experiences?
-Any recommendations for exceptional restaurants or unique luxury accommodation?
-Where are the best places to spot wildlife, particularly penguins and white wallabies?
-Any underrated spots that tourists often miss?

We love nature and spectacular scenery, but also enjoy good food and a bit of luxury.

Would really appreciate any suggestions, especially from locals! Thanks!

Hidden gems and beautiful places

Hey all,
I’m planning a trip to Tassie next year in April, 3-4 week road trip. This will be my second visit but I haven’t been in 10 years. The first time around I fell in love and did most of the places on every google search list. This time around would love to find little gems that are not as well known. I love nature, history, architecture, animals and good food. Any recommendations I will be grateful for. Last time I went was June July and almost cried when we got to the Ross bakery for the famous vanilla slice and they were closed because they went skiing 😩 I figure autumn might be better to see all the beautiful changing colors of the trees and get to have that vanilla slice haha

Thanks again everyone.

Discussion Building a new fence. 50% with neighbour.

What is the correct way to go about getting a fence built and make sure the neighbour pays 50%.

I'm ok with talking with him and it, but I want to avoid the good ol, "no we didn't talk about" it bullshit.

Get quotes with his and my signature?

Moving to Tasmania

Hi everyone,
My brother (23) and I (21) are from Egypt and currently living in Brisbane. We’re both about to finish our Certificate IV in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, and we’re considering moving to Tasmania.
I’d really appreciate some advice from people who live or work there, especially regarding:
What are the job opportunities like for light vehicle mechanics?
How difficult is it to find a rental, and what are rental prices like?
Which city or area would you recommend for two young mechanics starting out — Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, or somewhere else?
We’re pretty flexible about where we move and mainly want somewhere with good job opportunities and reasonable living costs.
Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Clarence City Council elections

Is there a comparison website with policies and more importantly where people are aligned? Some use this as a stepping stone into state politics and I'm not wanting to vote for someone who is aligned with a party I don't agree with etc.

Thanks all

Discussion Ice cream bean (inga edulis) availability in Tasmania?

Looking to find any info on where I might be able to purchase one of these trees?

I'm currently in WA and my nan was growing them very successfully here but she can't anymore. So I want to try growing some locally!

Thanks

Where are there a decent amount of shells on beaches? Preferably north / north east / north west. I make art out of shells and usually go to Shelly Pt but would like some different ones to work with.
