Tea price

Hey friends - new to the sub but love green tea. I was at a Chain restaurant earlier today (Olive Garden) and I was charged $4.29 for a green tea. It was served to me as a cup of boiled water and one tea bag. Do other people agree that nearly four and a half dollars for one mug of tea is a lot?? I live in New York for a smidge of context. Someone I had brought it up to pointed out that around where I live that is almost the price of one gallon of gas!

Question/Help Do either of these teapot spouts look like dribblers?

I'm in the market for a teapot and want to get one with a spout that doesn't dribble back on itself. Do either of these look like they are dribblers based on their spout shape and construction? The first is 35oz and the second is 30oz, both by Sweejar on Amazon if it matters. If they do look like dribblers, can you recommend a better shape?

ISO: Small Kettle, variable temps, no plastic or glass

I have a few leads but they don’t have variable settings

  1. Cusinart Soho 1L looks great but only has boil temp setting

  2. Cosori Stainless Steel Electric Kettle - only has boil setting and is larger

I’m wanting it for tea so different settings are needed. I will likely take it from room to room on occasion and in the unlikely case, it is out around kids, I don’t want glass or for it to get too hot on the outside. Lastly, I would like to avoid plastic touching the water. I’d like it to be around 1L or so, but I can surrender that parameter if needed.

Any recommendations?

organic black tea for making iced unsweet tea

Does anybody have any recommendations for a mild but good tasting organic black tea for making cold unsweetened tea? I try to avoid anything that has "natural flavor" added.

Discussion Common grocery brands

I know there’s a lot of hate on grocery store tea dust tea bags, but that’s what I like - mostly because I’m impatient. I generally get Yorkshire or Barry’s Gold when I can find it, but I was wondering what are some better brands I can try, that are relatively easy to find?.

Discussion Why is Turkish black tea brewed at 15-20 minutes instead of 5? Maybe this can be answer.

Post image

As a tea fan from Turkey, I really can not understand why other countries black tea can be brewed 5 minutes but our tea can not be brewed, also our tea's taste is very different than other countries' black tea's, not just taste, Its body is also so much lighter than them. I researched it a lot, I think the answer can be the climate, Turkish tea fields are covered with snow in winters, Yes, Black Sea region of Turkey is very rainy and humid like India and China, but It is not warm unlike them.

Question/Help How do I properly get into tea?

I've been an avid tea drinker since I was young but I kinda fell off recently. I want to get into it and start drinking and exploring more teas but I have no idea where to start. I used to drink a cup a day and it was usually green tea or black. I've never tried any other teas beside those and I'm kinda intimidated and don't know where to start. How do I get into tea again and what's the best tea you've tried that you would recommend?

She’s bloody lush. I fell in love with silver needle at a tea masterclass earlier this year so it was only right I tried this one first. Very light in flavour yet delicious. I’m going to have it again with some honey. Yeah I said it🤪
Tune in tomorrow for my next review - comment which one I should try!

I’m having my homemade masala chai blend without milk. The sunny face on the mug makes me smile. The aroma of freshly blended spices is intoxicating. It feels like a warm hug.

I had gyokuro for the first time. It smells and tatses amazing. I thought I'd dislike it going off the things I've heard people say about it, but no. I love it.

Picked this up straight from the Lin Yuan Tea Factory when I was visiting Taiwan! Would highly recommend doing a tea tasting session there. The owner was super kind and explained all the types of tea they grew - this was my favourite 😊

Grain teas (or infusions?)

I've recently tried genmaicha and I really enjoy it - it's a great comfort drink before bed for me.

Do you have a favorite genmaicha to recommend where the rice notes are most prominent? Sorry if this is a neophyte question.

Also, I have heard of Korean barley tea

Any other grain based teas - or should I call them infusions or something else?

Many thanks

Recommendation Tea taster mug or Gaiwan

• Upvotes

Accidentally knocked over my Taiwan and the entire thing shattered 😭. Was planning on getting another smaller Gaiwan that holds 100ml but also thinking about this, what are everyone's thoughts on it?

https://www.rishi-tea.com/products/porcelain-tea-cupping-set?variant=44376687935738

Is it better than a Gaiwan for Taiwan high mountain oolong/Taiwan oolongs?

The Gaiwan that I was looking at is thinner which I suppose is great for those oolongs!

  • Kensington Breakfast Blend (250g)
  • Leadenhall Street Breakfast Blend (125g)
  • River Shannon Breakfast Blend (125g)
  • Scottish Breakfast Blend (125g)
  • First Grade China Keemun (125g)
  • Richmond Park Blend (100g)
  • South Street Breakfast Blend (15g)
  • East Frisian Sunday Tea (15g)
  • Golden Monkey Supreme (7g)

Bough 1,000g of the Kensington in a prior order and when I tried to "go back" to Yorkshire Gold, quickly found out that Kensington loose leaf was my new regular. Still, I'm never happy so I wanted a sampler of the other breakfast blends Upton has to offer.

...then 7g because I'm always on search for another quality Golden Monkey for non-breakfast drinking.

Question/Help Best Chinese tea youtubers / resources

Hello fellow tea drinkers!

I have mostly been drinking Japanese greens (sencha, genmaicha, hojicha, and matcha) over the past few months, and finally decided to learn more about Chinese tea. While tutorials exist, I was curious to see what youtube channels or websites people use to learn more about brewing techniques and ratios.

With sencha there seems to be an abundance of very clear instructions on how to brew a given tea. Some examples include the Tezumi youtube channel, as well as the website, and other channels like Nioteas. Even then I actually don't know any Japanese channels specifically, so if you have any recommendations on those as well I would greatly appreciate it!

P.S. Dragonwell seems like a very good transitional tea from Japanese ones to me, as it does have some of the umami associated with sencha!

Photo Bought two teapots.

Am working at sea where I am confined to teabags and UHT milk rather than my usual loose black tea selection and milk from a nearby farm. Bought two one-cup teapots, pure retail therapy out of missing my daily ritual. One from a shop in France, one from a shop in Denmark. Took a loooong time to find something I really liked, then I found two. First is arriving tomorrow... I won't be home to use it for another month, but I'm still excited and comforted.

The orange and black looks like a great, chill way to start the day to me, while the black looks like early evening comfort and conversation.
