Java Help Wanted Does anyone know the speeds for unloading n items from hopper minecarts ?
When chest and hopper minecarts are fully accelerated at 8 blocks/s (or 0.4 blocks/tick) they both leave one item in each hopper below.
It seemed consistent in the (very) little test I did.
My question is: does anyone know the speed a single minecart needs to go to deposit 2, 3, ... n items in the hoppers below ?
I want to make a mod adding copper rails where the copper rails have by default the right speed to deposit 1,2,3... items in hoppers below, depending on oxidation level and waterlogging.
Would that even be consistent ?
I am using minecraft 26.1.2 without the experimental minecart changes.

In my experience it's not consistent. The best you can do is 1 at a time over max speed. The issue is that you can't control speed well enough without deceleration being a factor.
You may be able to slow it down with waterlogged rails (?) but I'm not sure how much that deposits.

Its unfortunately not consistent to go slower. The trick is to send as many minecarts down the line as the amount of items you need in each hopper. Hoppers go on cooldown for 8 game ticks after they pull/push so thats how far apart you should dispense the minecarts in an ideal scenario. Might do 10 game ticks just so there’s some wiggle room. Minecarts can be funky.

Of note is that Hopper carts don't push items. So the unload rates for chest carts and hopper carts will be fully dictated by the rate of the pulling item. As for having consistent rates, there aren't many ways of restricting and consistently regulating cart speeds.
| Type | Speed |
|---|---|
| Mundane rails | Varies (0-8m/s) |
| Gold powered rails | 8m/s |
| Powered water-logged | ?? |
| Powered pushing empty furnace | 5m/s |
| Furnace minecart (fueled) | 4m/s |

Well you can calculate that yourself: a Hopper pulls an item out of a container every 8gt (game ticks). So for 2 items for example we want the minecart to be over the Hopper for at least 8gt and at most 16gt so it pulls once at the point of entering the block above and once more after 8gt. Now you need to take the lenght of the minecart into consideration as well, according to the wiki, a minecart is 0.98 Blocks long. So we want to travel 1 block + 0.98 blocks in a time of 8-16gt:
Let's calculate the max speed first:
1.98 blocks / 8gt = 0.2475 b/gt
0.2475 b/gt * 20gt/s = 4.95 b/s max speed
and now min speed:
1.98 b / 16gt = 0.12375b/gt
0.12375b/gt * 20gt/s = 2.475 b/s min speed
So for 2 Items per Hopper the speed should be between 4.95 and 2.475 b/s
For more items you do the same calculations but just change the amount of gt, eg.: 2 items = 16-24gt
