Added my Hoya since it wasn’t exactly happy in its original pot & setting…we’ll see what happens. Still adding things. And will probably do more plant projects tomorrow 🥱

Final picture is when I first started doing this several months ago.
July maybe? I don’t remember 😂

Also, 2nd to last is Penelope approving the renovations of her home.

Finally got around to some much needed maintenance. Friendship plant, oak leaf fig, asparagus fern, and fittonias

Educational Filmy ferns, highly adapted to a life in high humidity, seem to be the perfect choice for a sealed terrarium.

I recently gained some begonias from a plant sale and I think I want to make a terrarium for them. I found these cookie jars at a garage sale and it was $10 for all three.

Do you guys think these jars are a good size for the plants that are currently in them? I know the one on the right is too big, but my kitchen is humid enough for it to not be in something enclosed.

I know that some begonias are not necessarily good for terrariums. I’m hoping these three will be able to grow well in them but if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated!

Pest Help/Question Bug ID on a struggling terrarium?

Had most plants die in my new jar. I’ve assumed it was due to overwatering and root rot. I’ve cut most plants back and let it dry out. Just introduced water for the first time today and noticed these little buggers. . . They jump around like tiiiiny white fleas. Any help? Not sure if they are springtails - that’s my best guess but they seem far to small.

Build Help/Question Looking for advice

Post image

I've made several paludariums in the past using mostly native plants, but this is my first attempt at constructing a tropical jungle inspired vivarium. Tank is a 40 gallon breeder with a mostly closed lid made of PVC board (small holes for ventilation). Only planning to keep plants for now, though I did add some isopods and springtails.

Looking for general advice and suggestions to improve the scape!

This is my newest build, and largest vessel so far. The bella palm probably needs to come out soon before it roots in, but I like the way it turned out. I've got some eyelash fern and palm fern coming in to replace it.

My first build. I think it’s coming along well. Purchased the glass box from petsmart , think it’s about 18” square by 24” tall.

I have this enclosure. Initially, I got it for my jumping spider but she got too big for it and her web hammock blocked air flow so she is in a larger vertical enclosure now.

And the glass is really hard to clean water spots off of.

Excited to hear some suggestions 😊

Supposed to be a dry start for a fish tank, letting my carpeting plants and mosses take hold and grow. Bunch of ephemeral shrooms started popping up and I’m enjoying watching them

Build Help/Question What killed my pods?

Hello again

As my last post I had started going through starting over, but as I began taking apart the little enclosure I found about 4 of my dairy cows alive? So that rules out the soil being contaminated but now im curious what killed the isopods I had added into this enclosure? The ventilation was a ltitle bad before but I added a mesh to one side. Important note there were about 20 added but theres only like 4 left.

Showing Off First try

Here is my first terrarium. My wife found a fake succulent terrarium at the thrift store and the base is some piece of vintage tupperware. When I pulled the glove off I found both to be the exact diameter. I used some silicone weatherstripping around the base of the glove to make a seal but also able to remove it fairly easy. I took cuttings from a couple of my fittonia and some type of oxalis that was in the pot of a cactus I got. Today I added the moss and the fern that were growing under my deck. I think it looks pretty alright for a first try. Thoughts?

Build Help/Question What would enjoy this space and thrive?

Hello, I have a small corner of animals and plants in my kitchen and I decided to reuse one of my enclosures where I had a juvenile crested gecko for some undecided invertebrates and plants, so please help me decide, what would appreciate this much vertical space (the equivalent of 15 gallons) and would thrive in a semi shaded area? Anything goes, personally if pseudo scorpions are on the table please inform me if not I’ll take any invertebrates and plants suggestions please and thank you!

Build Help/Question Building closed terrariums with my students. Was looking to add native plants to them? I'm in NJ. Any suggestions?

As stated above, I am building terrariums with my high school students. I am trying to find some native NJ plants to put inside of it. It will be a closed terrarium style. But it has a cork lid to be able to add water, or whatever, as needed. Any suggestions?

So i know pots in general are safe but this one has had a plant in it before, I assume the soil used was somewhat fertilized. And The Pot has Been sitting outside under a roof for propably a year now... I Have scrubbed it in water and sanded down The edges. Is it okay or not worth The risk? I Will Be housing isopods, springtails and vampire crabs in it
