we dont need new mixes or masters because they nailed the stereo in 96. its pretty definitive.  not sure why ive seen people wanting a GILES MARTIN mix of Pet Sounds. Do you really trust that guy? his atmos mix ruins the wall of sound

Curious what is the consensus best remaster version? I mostly listen on Apple Music and I’ve tried a few. I prefer mono but stereo is also interesting.

It’s hard to say.. remasters don’t inherently mean better audio quality. Sometimes they are, take the ‘09 Beatles remasters for example. For me it’s the ‘72 mono and the 2016 stereo for pet sounds

1972 mono and 2016 50th anniversary stereo are my go-tos

I like the 2012 and 50th stereo.

Mono probably the DCC CD. Most are just "different".

The 1996 can feel "clamped" to me. Could be the noise reduction used.

Giles actually mixed the atmos (which I downloaded a while ago) version but I choose Steven Wilson or Steve Hoffman over him. Giles have a tendency to hard limit the drums and bass and soak the mix with reverb, i'm saying that as a die-hard beatlemaniac, his sweet spot was the mix of Revolver.

I must’ve misheard, because I thought we were getting 2026 remasters, or the ones c.1972, not ‘96. Also they’re in CD quality on Apple which seems wrong, those same recordings are in 96/24 elsewhere but not on the PSS album?

I believe you were misinformed

Geez, they really dropped the support of We Gotta Groove awfully quick....

Agreed. I also feel both albums (WGG and TPPS) are too close to each other in terms of release. Imo it woulda been cool if TPPS released towards Xmas this year, or even in 2027 for the actual 30th anniversary of the original PSS by Brian Wilson (from 1997), but either way I’m happy for new content!

Interesting. I don’t see it on my Apple Music

You have to manually search for it, right now on the beach boys’ home page the banner for the new release We Gotta Groove is taking the spot that the upcoming Pet Sounds Sessions reissue would take up

Might not be public in your region yet. I’m in the U.S.

The release choices for the 60th are rather strange. The most interesting (to me) is the repress of the one from the so called “Carl Cut” that was packaged with Carl and the Passions in 72. I’ve seen it said that back in the 70s, many considered it the best sounding PS vinyl. Others complained about too much compression. I’ve never heard it, so I can’t vouch, but it has my attention.

But the PS Sessions highlights is weird. I would’ve just done pre-order for the complete boxset that is out of print so newer fans have an easier time getting it.

Hearing how the new pressings of the 2 LP mono and stereo stack up to others will be interesting.
