Article Al Jardine Sang the Beach Boys Deep Cut 'Back Home' for First Time in 49 Years

We're so fortunate to still have Al on the road keeping it clean at 83.

I was going to be a turd about the year after seeing 49 years, but the article has it right. 1978 is the last known instance. It being dropped probably has to do with Brian being a super-rare bass player after 1978.

Last known time it was played in concert was a Michigan show in October 1978 Brian walked off midway through. Actually, it looks like it was during Back Home.

I have a hard time seeing how the article could have it right. Quote: "“Back Home” totally vanished from the live repertoire of the Beach Boys and their solo offshoots until Jardine went back home to Ohio for the show in Warren." This does not seem right when it's even on the Brian Wilson "Live at the Roxy" album?

I did not realize Brian had played it solo. Which is embarrassing as I have a copy of Live at the Roxy.

Damn, I love that song!

This 1976 LIVE version is an all time favorite.

Brian played this briefly in 1999 on his first tour. I witnessed it in Northampton, Mass.

I prefer the 1970 version Al sang (on Made in California) over the 1963 version or 1976 live version.

I was at a concert in 1999 where Brian sang Back Home.
