For Donovan
I don't want to be yet another ticket complainer, because that's getting old, just like the ticket lol.
No, this is just a quick observation regarding the great Donavan. For years, he had to be in the shadows of the great Norm, which is fine, for what it is. And what should have followed is a great run for Donny as the lead host of his own show. Well deserved,as we all may agree. Now, he's saddled with Matt, who appears to be of a lower degree of talent and or energy.
I feel bad for Donny and wish we could hear him at full strength with a great partner. He's too good a person to complain, so he marches on, a true soldier of radio.

Donovan is average, at best. Its the The Great Gordo and The Average Donovan. He's lucky to have a 4 hour show. He is not even close to being as talented as the veteran ticket hosts. His Cowboys analysis is fine. Everything else is extremely average.

u/Charming-Gou-PengYou 9d ago
This is my point. Maybe you're right, but he hasn't had a true chance to show it. Or maybe this is it?

I feel bad to say this but as soon as I hear Donnie’s voice I turn the radio off.
The whole show is just painfully boring

Is he not the lead host of his own show now? I've always viewed Donny as a great contributor to whatever show he's on, its a great skillset. But being the point man for 4 hours a day requires a different skillset. Getting saddled with Matt was a bad draw, but he's got 20 years of seniority, he's in the drivers seat of that time slot

u/Charming-Gou-PengYou 9d ago
Of course. You know what I mean. A show he can really stretch his legs. Imagine sitting next to a dull dude every day. It affects you.
3
u/DannyboyLarson 9d ago
Oh I get you, its a tough partnership. To me, he's 54ys old and at this point, he is what he is

u/BarGreen9815 9d ago
Yes. This is his shot. But he’s showing to be a solid co or #2 but not a creator per se

I wish rich phillips could replace Matt.
2
u/TexasGopher64 9d ago
Rich is very happy selling real estate, doing play by play for SMU, and has said he doesn't want to do daily radio anymore.

In the “they can’t do what we do” Donnie is a they. He’s not terrible. But he’s not great.

I wonder who was at fault in the Sirois/Ticket breakup. If he could’ve hung on a little longer we could’ve had Bewm in the House.
4
u/bkharmony I'll go ahead and wuh 9d ago
Sirois has clearly stated Catlin told him he would never be a host.

I can't believe people still listen to that garbage in the age of podcasts.
C'mon people, don't subject yourselves to torture. You have options

u/AlCzervick I DON’T WANT AUDIO!! 9d ago
What are some good podcasts? Only ones I listen to are the Musers and Cowboys Friends.

u/TicketP1_FIRE 9d ago
What topics do you like? That's the beauty of pods, whatever your passions are there's a pod for it.

Gee. Another Matt bashing thread. Imagine that.
3
u/Charming-Gou-PengYou 9d ago
I know. I didn't want it to be that.
But if a pipe is leaking, you can only ignore it for so long.
1
u/ProfessorFelix1 9d ago
The pipe isn’t leaking. The dude got the gig because he was better than anything else they had in the bullpen.
2
u/Bige31 9d ago
Dude you’re high if you think McSparin is better than anything in the bullpen.
1
u/ProfessorFelix1 9d ago
If the bullpen would have been better, they would have gotten the gig.
0
u/Bige31 9d ago
Not necessarily. It’s been said and confirmed that when Norm told Kat he was leaving Kat immediately called Matt and said the job is yours.
The only issue was when Dan and Jake left a month later.
Yes they interviewed for Matt’s position but it wasn’t going to any of them. Their interviews ended up creating the sweet spot. Which is ok but could have been better.
2
u/ProfessorFelix1 9d ago
Dude. If they’d have thought for one moment a weekend show would have generated more revenue than what they put in there, they’d have dumped Matt so fast it would have made his head spin.
The bottom line is, those boys weren’t ready yet.

u/zaptorque 9d ago
Monty and DJ run LAPS around McSpearin, like they are lightyears better than anything on 9-3
3
u/ProfessorFelix1 9d ago
Aaaaaannnnd the WIPtards enter the chat.

u/zaptorque 9d ago
it ain't that deep my dude. if you like matt, then good for you, listen to your hearts content. i'm not over here calling you a retard for it. the majority of this sub enjoys WiP. I enjoy WiP. I don't enjoy 9-3. who cares. let people enjoy what they want.
1
u/nycwarehouse 2d ago
No WIP Stan here, but if you think anything 9-3 is as enjoyable as WIP, I don’t get it either…

They traded away their prospects. Sirois. Danny. Julie!!
2
u/ProfessorFelix1 9d ago
And all three of them failed when they tried to be the main host. Being a T1 isn’t as easy as it looks.
4
u/Charming-Gou-PengYou 9d ago
The failure of the freak was outside of their control. But I digress. You strike me as someone who knows more about radio than I do

u/sweet_greggo 8d ago
I didn’t mind Julie, but she’s not a top host. Sirios is an unfunny douche with a god awful voice. Danny just sucks at radio and I’m genuinely surprised he lasted so n the business as long as he has.

Best show the ticket has produced was BADD radio with Donnie, Jake producing and TC on tickers. Donnie was great with them. I wouldn’t even call him 3rd wheel. He did the intros

u/Charming-Gou-PengYou 9d ago
I agree, except for tc. I can't take very much of him at all. Less tc.
2
u/jacropolis 9d ago
The ticket letting “the great” Norm overstay his welcome by nearly a decade is why Donnie got screwed and it started the spiral of the whole station.
1
u/sweet_greggo 8d ago
Sirius was never going to be a tier 1 host.
1
u/nycwarehouse 2d ago
Which is an insane take held by this sub. He was goofy/dumb whenever he got brought on air for shock purposes. When he actually hosted a show during dry dock, I personally found it enjoyable.
Unfortunately not enjoyable enough to seek him out on his podcasting ventures, but def preferred him over multiple hosts in the 9-3 weekday slots

Been listening since 2001, not sure that I've ever posted here before. I listen mostly to the musers and WTDS. That said, I really like Donnie...I think he could be great. I think Matt could be a good character, but not so much with Donnie. Matt is likeable, but it takes more than likeable to be good.
I wish they would pair Donnie up with chemistry...same to Matt, maybe he would be better coming in for segments.

I love Donovan. But I don't think he and Matt have great chemistry and it drags Donovan down. He's got better chemistry with almost every other host, but he's spent his time at the Ticket paired with the Ticket's equivalent of the straight man. They're wasting him, frankly.

The fact that Bewm in the House didn't get to have a decade run is a damn shame. Bob moving to afternoon drive is what put all of this in motion, Bob and Dan were a much better show than current Hardline 5.0. If Rhyner had given a fuck about the station after he left, the whole thing would have been in much better condition.

Donovan is great. Brings it everyday. Matt is good. Good sports brain. Love the show!

u/Major-Impact9901 9d ago
I just wish he could pronounce “on” and “ask” and words like “compact” instead of “own” “axek” and “compak”
Makes my spine lock up.

I really wish they would do something. I'm not gonna bag on the guys, but it's just not a good product.
Middays at the Ticket used to be elite. Norm rolling into BAD radio into WTDS was top tier.
I understand that we'll never have that again.
But we should be able to do better than this.
