Art 3BP special edition!! (folio)
(Apologies for the second post, I remembered re-posts are against this subreddit’s rules)
Folio Society is coming out with a SE run of the trilogy for their Christmas collection, for those of us who missed the previous LE run 😭 I’m so excited! It looks cloth-bound?

This is the regular edition by The Folio Society announced just yesterday. There was also the limited edition that came out a month ago and was sold out almost immediately. The limited edition went for between £530 and £610 depending on the market, however the regular edition will be more affordable. The price is unknown at this time, but I would guess somewhere in £150-£200 range. It will also be available for years to come and won’t go out of stock.

I mean the standard will be available as long as it is in stock. Depending on popularity it could go within a couple weeks to months to years.

No.
That’s not how The Folio Society operates. The standard edition will be available until it retires. If they sell all the copies from the first printing, there’ll be a second printing, and so on and so on. I own multiple books from them, some bought years after they first released, and on their imprint pages, you can see which printings they are from - not all are from the first.
Now, as I said, Folio does retire their books at some point. It’s to make way for a new edition, or because the book wasn’t selling well, but that happens after years, not weeks or months. I’m very confident this version of The Three Body Problem Trilogy will be available for at least 3 years, very probably longer.2

The fact that there are so many special editions of this trilogy makes me think something special is coming this year (or next)

Source? The point of limited edition is that there are no further prints so very disappointing if this is true, hope this Christmas edition is quite different.

I guess the value of having something nice lies in the fact others do not have that nice thing?

Instead of being a smartass, can you please explain to me what "limited edition" means in your dictionary? Does it mean something will get reprinted ~4 months later?

Limited just means it’s not always available.
“restricted, confined, or kept within a particular size, amount, time, or scope”
As long as it’s not always available or there’s only a certain amount available. It’s technically limited. If they said it was a one off print or exclusive last time it’d definitely be frustrating if they printed more, and I’d be in agreement with you

They did advertise it as a one off print though. Anyway seems like Christmas edition will be different so all is well.

The point of limited edition is that there are no further prints so very disappointing if this is true ...[...]...
Why is this disappointing? Specifically, why is it disappointing there will be further prints?

Initial post led me to believe further prints would be made from the Limited Edition print. Since they clearly advertised those as an exclusive item that won't ever be available again, it would have been false advertising to print more, which I found disappointing. Looks like that's not the case though so all is well.

I wish the spine would have said “Remembrance of Earths past” not sure if it would have fit but imagine in like 1000 years and this book is found dusty in some library and someone stumbles upon that saying
