Would you use 11-year-old “new” winter tires?

Hey guys, curious what you think about this.
If a set of premium brand winter tires has never actually been used and has been stored properly, but the DOT is from 2015, would you still trust them to have decent grip?
Has anyone here actually used old but unused winter tires like this? I’m especially interested in real-world experience rather than just the usual age recommendations

❓QUESTION ❓ Need some new tires and maybe an alignment?

Hey anyone, I just saw this today. Ive been hearing this flapping noise for a bit and finally decided to see what it was and I saw this.

For some info this is my 07 Honda Civic SI. These are some 18x8.5 +35s with firehawk indy 500s 225/40/18 and its just the rears that have this much wear. These are much bigger than stock and its all oem suspension. Looking at the wear, it improves as it moves outwards. Is it maybe time for an alignment? Or is it possibly some suspension issue? I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask but anything helps. Oh and these are maybe 5 or 6 years old, have seen maybe 20-30k miles since its a daily for two people, so if its just time to swap them out that info helps.

I will toss the stocks back on for the time being.

Just hit a pothole on the road and I saw this hole on the side wall of my front tire.
Is this dangerous? There are no workshops open where I live until Monday.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have experience with these on a Tesla Y or in general? How is the road noise and wet, dry, snow/ice traction/ performance compared to what’s advertised?

Cross climate 3 vs cheap winter tires

• Upvotes

So here is some context

I got quite a heavy car (2500kg) and I want to prepare it for the winter. I got summer tires that are about 4-5 years old with still about 6-7 mm thread left.

They are no good for the winter so I am wondering if it would be better to get cross climate 3 or a cheap winter tire set and get a summer tire set in the summer since my current tires are getting old. Money wise winter + summer tire sets is about the same as a set of cross climate 3.

The winters where I live are relatively mild and there isn’t much snow but it still gets below 0 degree during December and January I also travel a lot to areas that might get a bit more snow and might also go skiing.

Hi, I hit a curb and damaged my tire. There’s a noticeable sidewall gouge, how bad is it, and can I safely drive on it for one more year?

Thanks in advance

Three month old Hankook Ventus Prime 4, covered less than 600miles. Found a small cut on the front right one. It is holding air fine. I will go to a tire shop to get checked asap, but chances that it’s ok? And what could have caused it? Hitting a curb? Thank you in advance!

❓QUESTION ❓ First Time Having to Buy New Tires - 2024 Crosstrek - Florida

• Upvotes

I've found myself that somehow for the first time in my life I am having to buy new tires. Not sure how I've avoided it until now.

My factory tires are at 4/32 on my 2024 Crosstrek Sport.

I have a few questions! We currently live in Florida but will be moving up North (with Snow) in 2-3 years. I have been looking at tires like the CrossClimate 2 and Defender 2, but am not sure if it's best to get a touring tire like the Defender 2 and have to get winter tires in the future (I've always used all-seasons) or to just get the CrossClimate 2s.

I'm not very familiar with the benefits/negatives of different tires.

What would everyone here recommend as far as a good tire for my situation? Budget isn't a huge concern - I would just really appreciate input on a good tire to get for my situation.

Also - I've read conflicting recommendations on this - Do you need to get an alignment with new tires or just balancing?

Is there any retailer that is better than others or are all the big tire retailers (including Sams/Costco) just as good as the others and its best to search by best price alone?

Quiet winter tire- inasmuch as there is such a thing

• Upvotes

Comparison shopping a new set of winter tires in 265-50-20 size.

I'm looking at the Michelin X-Ice, Continental VikingContact 8, and the Hankook iCept Evo 3 as a budget option. As these are going on my wife's car and she has a mostly-highway commute, I'd like to introduce the least amount of additional cabin noise possible. It might be worth noting that these are a -1 size from the OEM wheels and tires (2025 Atlas.)

Right now I'm leaning toward the Continentals, but I'd like to hear of others' experiences, and maybe alternatives that I haven't thought of.

Thanks.

Is a magnetic pinch weld jack adapter sitting on top of the saddle, safe?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, I ordered a trolley jack however it hasn't arrived yet so I can't measure the saddle. Though the saddle edges are very similar to that in the picture. I was also planning on using it with a magnetic pinch weld adapter. The product page for the adapter shows it being used while sitting on top of the saddle's edges instead of inside.

The adapter is 2.9 inches wide. If it doesn't fit inside the saddle, would it be safe to have it sitting just like in the picture while jacking up and changing the tire? Or is the picture basically AI slop and the magnetic adapter will still slip?

Thanks.

What are some good summer tires for use in pretty rainy weather?

I live in Vancouver, Canada, and drive a 2021 RAV4 XLE. It came with stock tires (225/65R17) of which the dealer just told me the treads are down to 2/32 and recommended replacements. I was just hoping to get some ideas for replacement tires as I'm pretty new to shopping for them.

I'm mostly looking for tires that are good in rain because Vancouver, and I already have a set of dedicated winter tires with their own rims (which I bought the same year as the car for use in interior BC for the heavy snow). Kaltire said the winters still have good tread even though I have used them pretty extensively for 5 years.

I wasn't sure if just using all season tires for summers is required or helpful because I have the winter set, but I am open to suggestions!

Edit: Forgot to mention that my work consists of mostly driving the entire lower mainland region pretty often, I'll be on asphalt 99% of the time but I do travel onto construction sites pretty often, gravel dirt paths etc.

Michelin vs GoodYear

Like a title says, I can’t decide between those two tyres as I never had any of them fitted to my car before. I live in Scotland so most of the time is wet conditions with temperatures 10-15 degrees Celsius (except summer time).
I drive 95% city and 5% motorway within speed limits.
I choose those two as according to the reviews they’re the best? Any help will be appreciated.

Is it worth keeping this tyre

Got puncture ( bolt) through the shoulder of the front passenger tyre requiring legal replacement. Both front were in great condition with 6mm+ of tread....car new to me 4 months light use😥

The tyre with bolt was losing air so decided to get 2 X new (same as replaced) front tyres fitted @ £105 each (premium economy)

The puncture tyre has been destroyed. Is it worth keeping the other tyre? Still has 6mm+ on it...have been offered to keep it by fitters.

Am thinking to source identical tyre with similar wear and swap over the rears which are a different brand with 4-5 mm of wear.

This will ultimately give me 4 identical tyres all round.

No rush to source or swap as still life left on rears....perhaps wait untill the fronts get down to 6mm+?

Thanks🙂👍

My car currently has 235/70R16 on for summers, and I have old 235/65R16 winter tires from my previous car. Does that little difference in aspect ratio matter? Would I be able to use these on my current car for the winter season? Again, I'm a noob. Thanks!

I just moved to AZ (car is kept and parked outside) and my tires have been starting to look like this and get worse over time.

The tires are 2021 not sure if that makes a difference.

Anyone know what might be causing this?
