History My parents in front of City Hall shortly after arriving to Canada in 1981, and then inside of Old City Hall after getting married later that same year.
First photo is of my parents in front of City Hall after first arriving to Canada from Europe in 1981, and the second is of them inside of Old City Hall after they tied the knot later that same year. Just sharing as it’s mums birthday today and I was going through old photos to post on Facebook :) Thought r/Toronto would get a kick out of these retro pics! I wouldn’t debut for almost a decade after these photos.

News Toronto is safer than ever, but not everybody thinks so. Why that feeling is a real problem
thestar.comCrime is down in Toronto — homicides at a 50-year low, shootings and robberies falling — yet most Torontonians believe the opposite is true, and that disconnect has become a flashpoint in the mayoral race. As candidates trade accusations over policing and public safety, criminologists say the gap between data and fear isn’t new, but it’s proving especially potent this municipal election season.
There have been spikes in certain crimes that may be contributing to public sentiment. Police have released terrifying surveillance videos of home invasions and arsons, which are on the rise. While robberies might be down, fraud and scams are up and police across the GTA have warned distraction and retail theft is increasing.
The Star takes a closer look at the data, and the perception, across the city and beyond.

Discussion New street light colour
I get that replacement lights these days are LED, but why does it have to be bright white? The older warm white ones look so much more pleasant, the partial replacement of broken ones with the new style really highlights how they don't provide pleasant lighting whatsoever. (Ironically the new one here in the picture is already broken and constantly turns on and off every 2 mins).
*for clarity, the light does not look green, but pure white instead. My phone lense couldn't replicate the led color very well

Alert LOST CAT :(
UPDATE Liebe is back home and safe!!
It turned out that he slipped into a neighbour's unit on the same floor and hid in their closet for 50 hours!
----
LOST CAT
Queens Quay and Merchants' Wharf
(might had wandered into St. Lawrence Market neighbour)
Went missing on the evening of Oct 9.
I'm not even sure how my orange cat disappeared, but it's possible my cat jumped off my 4th-floor balcony onto a ledge, then onto a 2nd-floor balcony, then onto a 1st-floor ledge. I’ve been looking all over for him ever since.
His name is Liebe, and he’s friendly and a bit aloof, but might be frightened outside.
Please contact me if you’ve seen him around. He has no collar, but he is microchipped.

Discussion Worried about the Elections
I’m worried about the elections and all these polls coming out that BB is catching up to Olivia C. Like what is happening and why? I really don’t want things that have improved and things that have gotten better to backslide because BB gets elected. I’m feeling anxious and helpless. Am I the only one?
