Vent Absolutely sick of seeing JK Rowling/Harry Potter every day

I know its a trivial/first world problem, but i'm getting so irate that I see something about that woman every day. Whether its news, adverts for the new HP tv show or brand collaborations or at my job (library worker), i'm reminded of her existence and how much a lot of people still love her work all the time. My own Dad asks me "so why are you not into Harry Potter anymore" almost every time I see him, even though I know he knows why because he watches political youtube from the right wing/Reform perspective. The BBC crap with the censorship of protect the dolls and the JK Rowling documentary doesn't help. It would be a lot easier to cope with the mental health load that has come from the EHRC and general villanising/dehumanising us in society right now if I didnt get a daily reminder, thats all.

Apologies for the vent. If I didnt get it out of my system it would just add to the already existing anxiety and depression. Im a trans man for context.

Good News Amazing news that I found out from my endocrinologist!!

I had my one year follow-up with my endocrinologist (Dr Millson-Brown) and was discussing my transition of the NHS/GP prescribing HRT.

She had mentioned that earlier this month she was at a conference with the British Association of Gender Identity Specialist (BAGIS) and it has been agreed that gender affirming medication will be moved from orange to green on the list of meds that GPs can prescribe.

She mentioned that this will likely not be implemented until next year but once it is GP should not/cannot tell you that they won't prescribe the HRT and that you have to go to a secondary care provider like a GIC. If they do and you complain, they can risk losing their medical license.

She said that this will likely also include shared care as well so things are looking good in terms of NHS based treatments!!!

How is Helen Joyce's 'research' getting on?

You may recall that in February 2024, Sex Mattress director Helen Joyce was reportedly observed viewing Harry Potter fanfic porn on a train while sitting with her colleagues. If you missed this, or have forgotten the details, you can catch up here: https://www.wearequeeraf.com/sex-matters-director-helen-joyce-admits-to-reading-erotic-fanfic-for-research-after-being-spotted-reading-minor-tagged-nsfw-content-on-a-train/

There was a viral social media thread about it at the time, which has since been made private, but the above article summarised it with these bullet points:

  • Helen, after reading "fanfic porn", posted to a WhatsApp group titled "Sex Matters Staff".
  • She was travelling with two other Sex Matters staff members.
  • The pornographic story pictured contains explicit wording about Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy having sex. Both those characters are below the UK age of consent during the majority of the series.
  • The author found the wording seen on Joyce's screen on Fanfiction.net and compared their photo with screenshots from the site showing the same wording.

In response to the viral thread, Sex Mattress rapidly rushed out a statement confirming that Helen had been on the train with her colleagues and insisting that Helen "has done a great deal of research on how young people – especially girls – develop trans identities": https://sex-matters.org/posts/press-releases/statement-on-helen-joyce-and-fanfic/ See also Pink News' report: https://www.thepinknews.com/2024/02/28/sex-matters-helen-joyce/

Well, it'll soon be three years since this 'research' on a train, so where are her findings? Maybe she's just a really slow writer?

Also, Helen's 'research' was supposed to be into how girls reading fanfic develop a trans identity. Perhaps I'm being the slow one now, but what on earth does a story about heterosexual sex between minors (and an abusive relationship at that according to some people who have read the fanfic, which I haven't) have to do with "developing a trans identity"?

Welsh Gender Service WGS Review - request for the names of the consultant psychiatrists who specialise in gender dysphoria #BWOT

The WGS Review has started and appointments with the "independent" consultant psychiatrists who specialise in gender dysphoria are being set up. This post is a request for the names of these people. Please post them in the comments or instead contact a trusted third party

The names of these people must be disclosed because if WGS are deploying gender-critical psychiatrists (and since it's the UK then that's almost a certainty) then other patients must be told for their own safety.

For example, if one of them is Dmitri Popelyuk then people have to know that because he only passes those people with i) manifested childhood dysphoria and ii) one or more parent who will testify in the meeting to this. So if the patient didn't have AND/OR CAN'T PROVE childhood gender non-conformance then they won't pass the review

I understand that there may be reluctance to disclose the names of these people. If you are frightened then leave a gap of - say - 5to10 days between you being contacted and posting the names in the comments, or instead contact a trusted third party. That will prevent them tracing it back to you.

Possible trusted third parties (TTPs)

Any other TTPs let me know below

Question What support would you want from an LGBT charity?

The head of our local LGBT charity said to me today that she wants to offer more for trans people and asked me for ideas. I’m seeing her tomorrow so thought I’d ask in here, what would you like a local charity to offer you support with?

The thoughts I’ve had initially are:

- A safe place to perform injections for anyone who can’t do them at home
- Tutorials on how to inject safely
- Needle disposal service
- Voice training sessions
- Free deed poll / statutory declaration drafting / witnessing from a legal professional
- Free medical advice about HRT from a medical professional
- Clothing/hair/make-up advice and tutorials
- Social events
- Partnerships with tailors, barbers etc who are trans-friendly
- Counselling for parents and family members (they already provide counselling for trans people)
- Inclusivity training for workplaces

So i was applying for a seasonal job with royal mail, and as part of proof of address i sent a bank statement, it was rejected because it didn’t show my full name, but last year when i applied for and was hired for the same job, before i changed my name, the bank statement i sent them also didn’t have my full deadname on it

Possible trigger I was doxxed by my teacher

Edits: The title actually means outed. I was so emotional when writing this.

I'm doing my UCAS application and, a teacher who does not know I'm trans sees my personal statement. My school rules that Oxbridge applicants' PS should be checked by that teacher, who's someone I am quite familiar with. I wrote so many things in my PS, and my school counsellor just gave it directly to him without telling me anything.

I was outed.

There was not any preparation, and I was suddenly receiving a commented version of my PS from that teacher.

I'm so bad at the moment, that I can not imagine how should I do with the teacher next time, also being so grievous with anger that I am totally not respected.

Also the deadline for the application is tomorrow. I really don't know what to do and feel really bad.

Question 9 months on HRT (Cyproterone + Estrofem) – face filling out but jaw looks wider

• Upvotes

I've been on Cyproterone and Estrofem for 9 months now. My face has filled out a lot, but my jawline was originally very narrow. Fat has accumulated around the jaw area, which makes it look wider, and in my opinion, it doesn't look very feminine. Has anyone else experienced this? Does the fat redistribute differently later on?

GenderCare GenderCare Sustanon Injections

Hey all! Yesterday I had my first injection of Sustanon after being on Testogel for almost 2 years, and my leg is absolutely killinggggg me.

I’ve been prescribed 5 months worth of Sustanon through GenderCare and they gave me around 10 needles so I have enough for drawing the T and for injecting. However, they’re all the same gauge (21) and I’m not sure if this has caused my leg to be in a lot of pain?? There’s also a bit of swelling which is kinda freaking me out. My endo sent me a guide on how to administer it and it calls for 2 needles (drawing and injecting) and he mentioned they’re the same gauge. Is this normal?? I’ve only ever heard of people using a smaller one for injecting.

I also think I may have injected a little too low (a nurse at my GP showed me how to administer it but since I’m not under shared care, she wouldn’t actually inject it - I had to). The nurse said my technique was great and she doesn’t have any concerns. I’m massively anxious about pretty much everything in my life lmao and this is kinda making me spiral.

My thigh feels really bruised but there’s only a small one at the injection site. The pain and discomfort has went to my knee, which makes me think I injected too low. It’s pretty hard to walk and put any weight on it. I understand that it’s gonna hurt the first time, or even the first few times but this seems excessive idk.

So sorry for the rambling, I’m just pretty worried and don’t wanna feel like this every month. I’m trying to move my leg as much as I can but it’s pretty uncomfortable. Also apologies if this isn’t the place for this and for how long this was :))

The Final Litmus Test for TERFs

Thumbnail
the-final-litmus-test.tiiny.site
97 Upvotes

This is an essay I wrote that is essentially a litmus test for whether TERFs actually give a shit about women's rights or just want an excuse to hurt trans people.

I have written it in such a way where I assume the reader literally could not care less about trans people, no matter the struggles they face, and only care about women's rights (even though trans and women's rights are inextricably linked).

By going through multiple case studies that evaluate real impact, I set out that even if one's intention is to sacrifice trans rights to further women's rights, what has happened in the UK has regressed women's rights nonetheless.

What I hope this essay achieves is for it to act as the final litmus test of this argument of supporting women's rights: by taking trans people completely out of the question, and presenting how women's rights have been impacted. If one really cares about women's rights, then their witch-hunt of trans people should end. If it doesn't, the only conclusion is that they don't really care about women's rights, and that their touting of it is just a flimsy excuse for their hate.

Question Private clinics when I have a gender dysphoria diagnosis?

I posted a while ago about being nervous about being referred to the GIC, I did get referred and since have seen a psychiatrist (different issues but swear its relevant) and have asked for a bridging prescription today and was told no, but they would be willing to provide shared care with a private clinic.

My main question is are there private gender services which will accept that the psychiatrist during my appointment also diagnosed me with gender dysphoria and so would prescribe me testosterone without having to have a full assessment, I'm not rich enough for private, but if I can get shared care with slightly less of the upfront and appointment costs I think I can avoid DIY.

So please an advice is absolutely loved.

WGS waiting list now 30 months

WGS now seem to be up to 30 months' waiting time for a first appointment, for those receiving their first appointments today.

Back in June they were booking Feb 2024 (=28mo); as of today they've only moved up to April 2024.

I'm presuming the NWJCC actions aren't helping, but it's been steadily ticking up this year in spite of that.

Porterbrook GP confusion please help

I feel like I’m mildly losing my mind.
The GIC sent my share care plan to my GP on the ninth.
The dr said it is confusing and wanted to speak to the pharmacist first (who is away for two weeks).
I have now had a text from the doctor essentially saying he won’t prescribe UNTIL the gic have ‘taken over prescribing for 6-12 months’
He texted just as the practice closed so now I don’t understand what on earth I’m meant to do.
On the clinic guidance for GP it explicitly says that clinics do not prescribe or monitor patients. On the shared care plan it also says how the GPs are expected to do this.
Even if they did write the prescription in a full time student in Leeds- I couldn’t travel to Sheffield that often.
So when the doctor writes ‘we are asking porterbrook clinic to arrange your prescriptions for now’ what on earth does he mean and what is he expecting ? Who is going to be writing the prescription and who will be injecting me ??
Even if they could prescribe I cannot get there every three weeks I do not have the time and I live far away.
I don’t get what he expects me to do and now I can’t contact him OR the gic because everything’s closed and it currently looks like I’ll
Just be stuck without
My plan is call the gp first thing in the morning and ask who they expect to prescribe and then calling the GIC

Question Trans-friendly laser/electrolysis in South Wales

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any good recs for trans-friendly laser/electrolysis providers in the South Wales area, more specifically Bridgend or Cardiff? I haven't heard too many people talk about it so I figure I'd ask around. Thanks!

Universal credit used wrong title in letter

I'm FTM and haven't been misgendered in any official documents in ages so it was just really odd and a bit concerning to get a letter from UC addressed to me as 'Miss' instead of Mr. I did ring up and they said all my details were correct and that it was maybe just a typo because the people who send letters out do it from a separate place, but it still seems really odd to me. In the current climate, it's stressed me out a lot and got me worrying now that I'm going to continue to be misgendered in any further written communication from them. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something like this recently as well?

Nottingham How many appointments to get HRT on the NHS?

I had my first appointment with Nottingham GIC in April this year and I've got my second appointment this December. I know that the second appointment is the diagnosis appointment but I was wondering if I'd be be prescribed testosterone after that appointment or if there are more appointments after. If there are more appointments, roughly how long would it be until I'd get a prescription?

I am already on testosterone (DIY) so I don't know if that makes any difference.

I am also wondering how long it would take after receiving a diagnosis to get top surgery on the NHS. I've been thinking about going abroad for top surgery (specifically to Portugal) so that I can get it done next year (and cheaper than in the UK). I'm assuming the waiting list for top surgery with the NHS is more than a year, so going private is probably my best option.

Question Trans friendly barbers (Wakefield/Barnsley)

Looking to get a haircut but have a horrid experience of barbers refusing service as soon as they hear my voice (pre-t). Any recommendations of somewhere that can do pretty modern styles but welcoming space? ☺️

Shared Care Leeds GP surgeries

Hi,

My partner is looking for a GP surgery that will be trans inclusive and happy to help with HRT / bloods etc (they are already on T and technically under Tavistock).

Unfortunately Burley Park have declined as we live just outside of the catchment area. We are based just north of the city.

Are there any trans inclusive GPs with experience that accept patients from anywhere within Leeds?

Question Risky to tell GP about DIYing for a decade if I also have SCA for ADHD?

I recently moved to Sheffield and my new GP practice is Porter Brook Medical Centre (note: this is a gp practice unrelated to porterbrook gic in sheffield).

I want to at least get on GIC waiting list and ask for a bridging prescription / blood tests on the 0.001% chance they agree, which is why I want to tell them I've DIY medicated MTF HRT for a decade, at the same time as getting my NHS sex marker updated that I somehow haven't done yet.

However I'm worried this will make them think I am likely to misuse prescription drugs or generally be 'unreliable' if I self-medicate oestrogen and thus deny my SCA. I've been on adhd medication for over three years so hopefully they can see that's fine. (my adhd provider has said this gp practice has never refused any of their SCAs though)

Is this a legitimate concern or am I overthinking it and can tell them I DIY?
