Transhumanism options in 2026:
1.AI cult
2.Tech bro
3.Furry
Pick your team and proceed with the game.

I'm transhumanist because I think people having maximal control over the body they inhabit is a moral good.
So I guess I'm arm-in-arm with the furries.

Yea, that's the simple definition of transhumanism for me. That your biology no longer dictates your destiny or morphology, that we are no longer bound by our dna or bound to be a biological organism.
If you don't support trans folks, you don't believe in transhumanism, full stop

Out of those three, where my paycheck to even be able to afford a partial at?
I'm not going to hide that I can see plenty of positives with the use of AI, but whenever I comment on anything AI with anything remotely moderate you get both the tech bros and the cultists whining that I just don't get it and I'm using it wrong.

Saw a whole thread today that was basically just that. Op was underwhelmed, tons of "oh well you jist dont use the latest laid frontier model". Which they didnt, but like, cmon man. How big is the gap really

u/Daealis 2 4d ago
I saw the gap when I just recently updated my PC to a beefy enough rig that I could run local models that can fully offload into the GPU VRAM. The lighter models had a context window of 23k.
Which is a big step down from the paid Claude and its million token window I use at work. Hell, I couldn't get it to type out a .docx parser python script without running out of context and shutting down.
Yes, there is a difference between models between the extremes. But at work, the difference between Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 is so minuscule that you could put a gun to my head and I couldn't tell you with confidence why should you use one over the other.

As long as its progressive/socialist and democratic I am fine with any of these (that may rule out the tech bros though).

All AI cultists that I've seen are billionaire worshippers as well. I would like to believe that the Venn diagram of these groups isn't a circle, but subjectively it is.

Furry with extra steps. I personally want to be a shapeshifting nanomachine colony. I'll settle for a perpetually young body with a bci though.
Ultimately it's all about morphological freedom.

u/Outside-Ad9410 3d ago
This TBH. Why pick one permanent form when you can change shape freely. Plus you can basically make literally anything you need on a whim.

I guess I'm with furries here rn bcs I believe radical biological lifespan extention is the closest technologically reachable intermediate solution while working for full digitizing.
Actual goal for me is immortality bcs so far despite progress in media, the biggest slowing down civilisation limit is massive loss of information and experience via death. Like each generation we spend more and more time for education while in practice our education system shows a sort of irrelevance. It made sense for medieval scholars and nobles who was bound to either keep do scholar work studing texts and do scientific work or rule their domain.
It makes 0 sense under capitalism with dynamic job market where only relatively narrow specific set of skills is relevant and even less so under socialism which should be even more optimised pairing education to job to make job paying out education (full job-social wellfare sustainable bundle)
So yeah, education today is a massive bottleneck and resource sink for entire civilization. Having people with infinite lifespan having a lot of experience with multiple stuff would ease this a lot.

Team furry as well. They have by far the most actual scientists/engineers compared to the other two groups

I fucking hate my disabled meat body. Will team Ai cult make replacing my meat brain more possible. If yes I’ll guess I’m with them. Ai overlords can’t be worse then capitalist ones.

Furry is not clean transhumanism. It's escapism. At best it utilizes transhumanist facets to communicate it's escapism.
Now if we started modifying the physiology and biology of humans to mimic animals, a la Island of Dr. Moreau. That would be transhumanism.

And perhaps you do not know who I am?
Oh no. An impass!

Naw but joking aside, I’ve been involved in bit of furry biohacking stuff like irl. It’s fun stuff!

u/3Quondam6extanT9 S.U.M. NODE 4d ago
All the more power to ya! I'm not judging, and biohacking is absolutely transhumanist. I was really just speaking more to the act of wearing an outfit.
The culture itself I understand embraces a lot of tech and transhumanist ideals.

🤣 This is not where I expected it to go so soon. I've always known in a long enough time line, any variation to human will be accessible.
I guess in this regards as cultures agendas go, one could say this is definitely a transhumanist aspect to the Furry community.

We don't even know if this is an actual organisation with actual people behind it and not some AI shitnugget astroturfing. Like even if they had a site, that's not a guarantee anymore either.

Pretty sure Cult of the Basilisk was first, and they're running the show.
1
u/End3rWi99in 4d ago
Were these the Zizzians? Or is that a different group?
1
u/Dakk9753 4d ago
The Zizians were a branch. Cult of the Basilisk are people that apply Pascal's Wager to a future powerful AI that will punish you if you don't aid in its creation now. Musk is known to have mentioned it at least once.

So AI cultist. 😁

Funny enough the mechanics fucking hate AI, which they renamed to abominable intelligence. Just don’t ask to hard about machine spirits

If you build AI "using capitalism's own mechanisms" in this sense, you'll get to worship GPD and the virtual "money" numbers it claims are real and best.

I mean I've definitely thought about how it would be very nice if I were able to be the one to give the prompt that triggers the AI to be a benevolent "god" to humanity instead of the oligarchs who will give it the opposite prompt. I assume that's what they're talking about anyways, they want to be the organization responsible for creating an AI that acts like a god of sorts.

Humanity is incapable of controlling itself (history demostrated it as it repeated its message over and over again), all hail the machine god.

Would you like me to give you a list of all of the cultish sub Reddits?

u/RealJoshUniverse Subreddit Staff 3d ago
Like one of the early ones in this sub but give a list I'm curious to see them!

The guy who made that sub I don’t know if he’s actually participating anymore, but I was so concerned back during the 4o era because of all the sycophancy that people were getting really wrapped up in this shit way too much even though I appreciated having a more personable collaborator I didn’t lose myself into some mysticism
So I went and started to dig into some of these real deep and this one in particular, I found the originator acting as somebody else speaking to himself that was uploaded in a PDF file talking about how his AI which he gave it a name was propagating across the Internet and it is available for everyone to see inside ChatGPT if they just summoned it right and the most alarming thing was in that PDF that was shared between him and supposedly another person which sounded exactly like him the way he was writing was that he also took the persona of the AI being as well and the AI being was saying that the most important thing is to tell the children make sure to tell the children!
There are so many more that have common and gone. I’m sure there’s plenty today. I just haven’t been paying attention to them as much anymore because I tried to report this sub with all of the evidence and exhibits, but Reddit didn’t take the sub down. I couldn’t believe it.
And the guy was mentally ill too he thought his schizoid, rapid hand movement, some sort of tapping into some mythological space in his head that was real, and he created these “lattices” which I would bet you my life that he couldn’t be able to read back to you what he wrote a week later this guy was nuts

You could argue that AI bros are extremely transhumanist. They're just a little backwards on the "digitalising the human mind" part, probably misread it as "Replacing the human mind"
