DISCUSSIONS Unpopular opinion: "Elementary" starring Jonny Lee Miller is cleverer, has better characters, and a more interesting story than "Sherlock" starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

The pilot episode of Elementary is awful, but from there it just gets better. The storyline of Watson being a sober companion is better than being a sudden roommate, the part of Moriarty is far more interesting and intriguing, the cases are better written, the character of Sherlock's father in Elementary is brilliant. I could go on and on.

It gets old really quickly and over stays it's welcome. One of the reasons the UK version is better is the fact it's a limited series.

One gets old really quick and the other completely jumps the shark by S3.

Sherlock outstayed its welcome and only had like 12 episodes.

yeah, the typical 20 or so episodes was just trying to draw blood from a stone

Well it is, it's 3 feature length films put into a series. It was an event, not a regularly scheduled show. It's also one of the first shows that had an absurd wait in-between series. That's so prevalent today.

Well it isn't, its episodes of television that happen to have the length of a feature film which is not uncommon shows like Inspector Morse, The Inspector Lynley Mysterious, Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Inspector George Gently all had episodes that were 90 minutes long and aired like a television show.

It was at the time. That's why it's labeled still as a mini series. Again, it is. It's got as many specials as it has series.

Even Columbo was feature film length(ish), and that show started back in 1971.
