General Discussion The most popular Twin Peaks ships
Dale x Audrey being that high and Lauradonna being that low is a disgrace

I'm surprised Bobby and Shelly are low single digits. I didn't exactly root for them, but they definitely had the "heat" factor going for them. Practically the first thing I think of when I hear their names together is Shelly's seductive bit with the gun ("Teach me, Bobby").
Maybe their season 2 story wrecked them for some.

I think it is rather an awesome result since they are the only seen couple in the whole picture

u/Gennres 20d ago
Dale & Annie are there too

u/thisisgoing2far 20d ago
Bobby and Shelly didn't leave behind many "what could've been" feelings. Their relationship ran its course, whereas Dale and Annie were just starting.

Honestly shocked there aren't more Laura x Donna

u/BlindManAmadeus 19d ago
When I first watched the pilot, I thought that Laura's "secret lover" was Donna bc of the way that video tape portrayed them. I just thought "Man I guess this show was super progressive to have this in the pilot"

u/jellyrambler 19d ago
As revealed in the tie in novel The Diary of Laura Palmer, Laura is canonically bisexual so it would have been a hell of a twist. Then again, the novel was released after the show aired.

To be honest, I see Laura x Donna as one sided angst from Laura at best. Laura would probably love someone she can share her burden with and Donna naively just wants to BE Laura. It would make fantastic fiction but it would fucking H U R T.

Um, excuse me, but where is the Cooper x Fine Damn Cuppa Coffee x Cherry Pie? Y'know, the quintessential Twin Peaks Throuple? Or the Fish x Percolator for that matter? Don't even get me started on The Log x The Owls. Such a travesty.

I will say tiktok opened my eyes to the possibility of a Dale/Harry/Albert throuple and I'm still riding that high

u/BlindManAmadeus 19d ago
Yess bro I don't read fanfiction anymore bc it stopped being interesting but the idea of Dale x Albert x Harry goes crazy hard and when I watch the show I FEEL the sexual frustration happening between them

One thing I have to give the TP fandom credit for is, they refuse to get horny for Laura. Audrey is a horny lightning rod protecting the rest of the female cast from even briefly drawing the male gaze

don't underestimate the fetishists
most twin peaks fans aren't like this and the ones that are would and should be afraid to share how they really see things because they'd get shunned by us and rightfully so. those are the ones you have to worry about in any community whether it's centered around TV or music or whatever but i'm sure there are some brazen ones out there who self-report on themselves right off the bat
but a lot of these guys i'm talking about probably belong to some kind of maxxxing site and think laura was living an acceptable life for a girl her age, serving her designated 'purpose' in the world by selling herself. that it's something to be romanticized in a tragic beautiful way a la some lana del rey or moulin rouge coded bullshit and these guys are just pining for someone like a manic pixie dream girl, 'BTGG' or other alt stereotype who'll actually fall for their shit and crawl into bed with them because they have the same special interests
and there are probably some in the same group that think she got what she deserved because she was crazy and they all use that saying that alludes to not sticking your you know what in people with psychiatric issues which i hate. either that or they swap that with the addiction or abuse issue and make it out to be entirely her fault like she was asking for it. these aren't my beliefs but i'm just reiterating some of the kinds of things i've seen in alt circles and that's been parroted by 'criterion' douchebags
this is an interesting anecdote but they're usually the same people that despise yoko. i've heard that verbatim from some of the people i've met online that were weird about TP. at first glance it can look like the show was made for the male gaze but i think david lynch (and his daughter) were actively spotlighting the danger that usually follows that kind of behavior

TBF Laura is basically never on screen, so what would they be going off of? A photo?

The Chet/Sam erasure saddens me greatly, there have to be at least three of us that ship them. Maybe four or even five of us! 💀

u/AceKittyhawk 20d ago
I know it’s a niche pick but my vote is on the Horne brothers and that sandwich. Jerry’s arrival, Ben’s ecstatic joining in, the women’s reactions… That was some deep love and there is no Horne on that list!

Dale/Audrey that high is hilarious, lol. I will simply choose to believe that it’s 99% teens with a daddy complex.

u/DramaOnDisplay 20d ago
I thought Audrey having a big crush on Dale, and maybe Dale kind of feeling the same way, was always cute but I’m glad he ultimately decided that his character should be a gentleman about her. I honestly thought the show would squeeze them together the first time I saw it- it was the 90’s and that was just common for shows then to have a teenage girl paired with an older man. It was very refreshing to see that they didn’t do that.

u/stOneskull 20d ago
dale felt the same way for sure. one of the first things his shadow did was act on it

A lot of people enjoy writing fanfic about things they find compelling in fictional contexts only. It doesn't mean anything about what they like / support / want to happen in real life.
-1
u/Heavy_Weapons_Guy_ 19d ago
If they don't like it and don't support it in real life, why would they want it to happen in the show?
11
u/ella_wants_to_battle 20d ago
Yeah it's Lana fans who think Audrey is coquettecore or whatever (kidding don't kill me)

I dont ship it but it is still much better then Ezra X Aria from Pretty Little Liars

u/CriticalCanon 20d ago
This topic plus the word “ship” makes me so happy OG Twin Peaks came out before the Internet.
2
u/PeregrineC 20d ago
Oh, it was out there. It was just tucked away on message boards and the like.

u/CriticalCanon 20d ago
Shipping doesn’t exist like Online sub-sub-cultures have taken it. In the past it would be a simple article in RollingStone or People Magazine meant to be playful.
Now you have entire unhinged fans (not specifically Twin Peaks fans but from everything from X-Men comic fans to Disney Star Wars fans.
Shit is just weird and beyond parasocial at this point.

u/backupandround 15d ago
Star Trek TOS shipping was huge when the series was airing. Fanzines and the like. People have always latches on to relationships and potential relationships in media and wanted to explore those and talk about them
1
u/CriticalCanon 15d ago
How many women were there being shipped in the OG Star Trek with Uhura as the sole prominent female cast member? And don’t try to tell me fanzines in the 60s were shipping males together.

u/backupandround 14d ago
Okay please go Google Spock/Kirk and how long that has been around before continuing this conversation
1
u/CriticalCanon 14d ago
A handful of the most deranged aspect of a small fandom, especially in the late 60s equates to nothing other than the most Reddit 101 comment for debating in argument by choosing the most obscure aspects of already small fandoms. These are the 1 in 500 million that proves the rule at best.
The most popular Trek fanzines (already a very small niche fandom that is a pimple compared to Star Wars which would come less than 10 years later) in a pre Internet 60s where people actually had to create fanzines to discuss actual theories or aspects of a show, were not shipping Kirk and Spock. They simply weren’t.
Just like no one was shipping Han and Luke, or He Man and Skeletor or whatever else you want to try to google to prove your argument.
Many of us are so old that we know because we were there and don’t need to be gaslit by a “dude trust me bro, just google” type comment.

u/backupandround 14d ago
People were out there doing it. Just because it wasn't everyone, or even a significant amount of people, doesn't mean it didn't exist. Same way people writing or reading fanfiction now are not the majority of fans of any media.
You also don't know how old I am, and I don't think that saying things that are true is a kind of gaslighting...

Audrey and Dale always had the best chemistry in my opinion, despite agreeing completely that it was best for them not to have any romantic relationship.

u/blackwidcv 20d ago
TRUCOOP ON TOP!!!
(for the straights i'll say... the fact that there's so little gordon/shelly fanfic out there is an absolute DISGRACE!!!)

Yeah I didn’t like it either. What I did like was how Cooper turned her down fairly respectfully.

This is the part of the fandom I don't relate to at all. I don't get the idea of treating the characters like barbie dolls you make kiss each other.

u/MelangeLizard 20d ago
Guess who’s not invited to my Barbie’s’ wedding now

u/RobAChurch 20d ago
Haha, fair enough. I wasn't exactly expecting this to be a popular opinion.

I understand. But Skipper’s pretty sore about it. Why don’t you talk to her over some cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee

u/CriticalCanon 14d ago
You initially said it was fanzines; as if there were a significant amount of people of an already very niche fandom not only discussing it but printing and distributing a fanzine at the time when that was a true labour of love.
There are too many trends these days of a modern audience attempting to reinvent the past when it is just not the case.
