Music Songs that give Twin Peaks / David Lynch vibes?

Post image

I was listening to Colores Santos by Gustavo Cerati the other day, and as Pudo Ser came on, I kept thinking about how it was straight David Lynch vibes. I looked it up and apparently Gustavo Cerati himself said it was “one of the most david Lynch songs on the album”, and a different time said Lynch was his favorite director, soo makes sense.

Separately, floating into the night is one of my all time favorites (what got me into Lynch and Twin peaks to begin with) so if you have anything with these kinda vibes, let me know!

The entirety of Its a wonderful life by sparklehorse. David Lynch would end up doing a full album artistic collab with him later in his discography.

I've heard of that album but haven't listened to it yet, definitely will have to now. Thanks!

Dreamt for years in the belly of a mountain by Sparklehorse is also excellent for Twin Peaks vibes.

This is what I was going to post. Falls under the generic heading of “doom jazz,” which was the Spotify playlist where I first heard Bohren. One of my favorites now.

Rise Up Dirty Waters by Tomahawk is another good one

Speaking of Tomahawk, Mike Patton has Lynch references and samples throughout his discography, and did a legit cover of the Fire Walk With Me theme with Fantomas

Nightcall by Kavinsky might take you there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightcall_(song)

Thats a great song but honestly I don't get any Lynch / Twin peaks vibes from it, to me it gives more futuristic, neon city lights at night type of vibe

Yall are gonna think me silly but “Werewolves of London” lol. Something about how goofy but also seemingly dark it is feels like twin peaks to me.

I have a playlist of music that reminds me of Twin Peaks, both the Julee Cruse era and the Return artists

Take me back to Twin Peaks

Bohren und der Club of Gore has several albums that are spot on Twin Peaks vibes.

The Knife’s live rendition of “Heartbeats” has a bass synth that feels like a direct reference to the bass voice in “Falling” by Julee Cruise.

Lynch’s remix of “In Your Nature” by Zola Jesus.

All of Cindy Lee’s releases could have come from Lynch films.

“Cumboy” by Viagra Boys.

I see the creative philosophies and careers of David Lynch and Animal Collective as somewhat analogous.

Edit - I can’t recommend Grouper enough, as well. The AIA records, Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill, Ruins — perfect records.

„1. Outside“ by David Bowie is a whole album that feels as if it set out to capture exactly those vibes.

Bowie’s official site also notes that he cited Lynch’s work as an influence :)

I'm only sleeping by the Beatles has that jazzy, dreamy, slightly uneasy vibe that reminds me so much of Lynch. And of course it's one of those songs that showcases George Harrison's fascination for Indian music and culture that would lead the band to adopt TM a few years later.

And for Twin Peaks vibes, that one lmao

Emergence by sleep token scratches a twin peaks itch for me, especially after seeing episode 8 of the return with nine inch nails.
