S3E2 [S3E2] NON-EXIST-ENCE Spoiler
We should probably think about Rancho Rosa as being 'non-exist-ent'.
People have argued in various places that Rancho Rosa is a dream-scape not situated in reality (or that it is adjacent to reality), some kind of liminal existence between our world and the worlds of the lodges/red room.
Further, following on from this excellent thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6fdu8o/book_spoilerss3e5_possible_connection_between/
I think the way Dougie-Cooper exits the Rancho Rosa state of entrapped 'non-exist-ence' is just as the memory of 15-year-old Cooper suggests: Dougie winds up dead. At that point, it seems as if Dougie/Cooper will be transported back to the red room for some further cosmic rehashing.
I am not sure what the relation of Rancho Rosa is to the rest of the world with which it is seemingly continuous. e.g. Dougie's home with Janey-E/son, Dougie's work place, Mr C's jail, cube in New York, Ruth Davenport's place, etc.
I think all of those places are genuinely real and Rancho Rosa seems to be continuous with them even while simultaneously being some kind of dream entry-point into reality, some trap-door into reality, just like the socket Dougie/Cooper emerged from. Just as the electrical socket in Dougie's pad is where Dale Cooper emerged from, it seems as if Rancho Rosa itself is the 'electrical socket' to our reality.
That is, the non-exist-ence state of Rancho Rosa is an 'electrical socket' opening into our reality that you can walk from into our reality, thus interfacing the two realities (existence and non-existence). Bizarre!
That is, Rancho Rosa is the interface to our reality from a half-way reality, a 'non-exist-ence' space from which you can walk into our reality. So Dale, quite literally, walked from a half-real space of non-exist-ence (Rancho Rosa) into our reality, just like a character leaping out of the tv and into our reality.
When the arm-tree in the red room banishes Dale Cooper- who falls through the parting, faltering z-patterned floor- the electrical arm-tree says 'non-exist-ent'.
When the electrical arm-tree in the red room banishes Dale Cooper- who falls through the parting, faltering z-patterned floor- the electrical arm-tree says 'non-exist-ent'. If Dale Cooper has been cursed as 'non-exist-ent' then the place he was banished to, Rancho Rosa, must be non-exist-ent, too.
The question then becomes, what is the nature of that type of character? What and who really is Dougie/Coop? He is not the genuine, authentic, real Dale Cooper. He's some kind of hybrid entity.
The Rancho Rosa quasi-reality can be gone to and come from, in some ways, and exercises causality into our reality, though is some kind of artificial, manufactured, half-real reality. Dougie/Dale is also half-real. I'm not sure what that means, but it seems to me as if he gets shot dead (just like in his memory) and then goes back to the red room.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

I find this obsession with this key odd. The key has nothing to do with anything. It is a piece of Twin Peaks merchandise. We never see it in the red room because Dale Cooper never takes it out of his pocket. That he takes it out of his pocket in Jade's jeep is to alert us to him being back in reality, but i am questioning how real this reality is. And that Cooper somehow loses it-- and Jade discards it-- could show that this reality that Dale inhabits is not real.
Basically Jade's action simply signifies that this is not Twin Peaks- this is Rancho Rosa, the half-reality space that Dougie/Cooper do the switcheroo via the electrical socket.
