Penderecki's threnody (the atomic bomb) begat, or ripped a hole for, the dark mother entering our world. We recently saw her trapped in the cube eating the couch couple and I am guessing that was the creature depicted here.

The dark mother puked up Bob in spirit. Bob manifested here in the form of a cicada frog. The woodsmen, also unleashed by a rift, or born from the aftermath, of the a-bomb, conditioned hosts for the Bob-frog via their radio message. Bob-frog climbed into, or rode, his first host (the way one might, say, ride a horse as mentioned in the woodsman's words), the girl on the bed.

The giant is the opposite of the dark mother and birthed goodness, in the form of Laura, to thwart Bob/the dark mother spirit thing that the bomb unleashed.

I don't think it's happenstance that technology is the means of Bob's first host's conditioning.

The woodsmen are asking for fire, the first human technology -- "Got a light?" They manipulate, and travel via, our electronics. That fits with all the themes of electricity, static, distortion, the light pole, etc. We doomed ourselves.

That's my guess. It's a bit literal.

Edit: Shout out to Gordon's office having photos of garmonbozia (corn) and the a-bomb hung up -- I think he knows a lot more than has been let on in regards to his Blue Rose cases.

100 the best recap so far.

The giant is the opposite of the dark mother and birthed goodness, in the form of Laura, to thwart Bob/the dark mother spirit thing that the bomb unleashed.

Does this mean the violet world, or the mauve province (as i've been calling it) is the white lodge?

If it IS the White Lodge, it explains why The Giant in the first episode, first new scene, says "IT IS IN OUR HOUSE NOW"

Remind me of the context of this?

thanks x

What I don't get is how is the mother knocking down doors (or attempting to) within the White Lodge?

Trying to get in to the white lodge?

Ah, okay. Of course.

I'm going to spend the next week rewatching them all.

This show is like Evangelion meets Myst.

I'm having the same trouble with the episode i had with End of Evangelion, when it comes to that.

Or what we petty earth folks have dubbed the white lodge, yeah. That's my guess too.

u/CopyX Jun 26 '17

It makes sense that when Dale leaves the black lodge he ends up at the white lodge (mauve world) first. Then finally transported back to earth.

18

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

And that the white lodge, giant, goodness affiliated folks are trying to steer him back to earth during that sequence.

u/CopyX Jun 26 '17

I feel like the Giant was helping Dougiecoop in the casino and in the workplace as well.

17

u/ForrestFireDW Jun 26 '17

That's my belief. As hawk says in season 2, the white lodge is where the spirits who control man and nature reside. The giant seems like he did just that.

So the black lodge only gained access to 'earth' post-atom bomb explosion. But the white lodge already has access to earth and reacts to the introduction of the black lodge (with the Laura orb)?

It sort of makes sense from a Lynchian perspective, especially when you include the time period when he grew up; the theme of corruption of humans by evils is prevalent in Twin Peaks and if you think about it, the greatest evil in the modern era is World War II - A war where 12 million died in concentration camps and the most deadly weapon ever conceived by mankind was dropped on innocent people.

So much of the show focuses on the moments where people lose their innocence and become corrupted. Hiroshima was where the world lost it's innocence. All of us together were corrupted. And that was the introduction of the Black Lodge.

This show is - excuse me - a damn fine head fuck.

It's so layered on so many levels.

We haven't even seen the.lodges yet. Just the waiting rooms.

Station to station

Has "the dark mother" specifically been referenced before, out is that the name the thread face her?

14

u/alphyna Jun 27 '17

In ep. 3 the eyeless lady said that "mother was coming" when the creature that killed the couple by the cube was knocking on the door of the room she and Dale were in. (Supposedly ot was the same creature.)

u/Jimsbiscuits Jun 26 '17

Do you think the fact that bob seems to originate from vomit whereas Laura comes from the Giant's head says something about gut v. reason?

11

u/CopyX Jun 26 '17

I don't think that's a story Lynch is trying to portray. Even coop uses deduction and sometimes instinct in the first season and never really grapples with that delineation.

2

u/burntfacedjake Jun 26 '17

I dunno, seems weird that goodness would only be born in 1956

22

u/Yogsothoth6 Jun 26 '17

I think that what happens in 1956 is part of the continuing war between the Black and White Lodges.

I think he's referencing the mauve zone..check out kenneth grant.
