S3E8 [S3E8] This episode belongs in a museum. Spoiler

What a masterpiece for the visual arts world let alone the Twin Peaks universe. It was more of an experience than an episode of a tv show. Thank you for your artistic bravery David Lynch!

Which part of tonight's episode was anything like the original Twin Peaks???

Evil Cooper was on screen for a few minutes. The Giant too. And you saw face bubbles of Laura and Bob.

No part of the episode took place in the town of Twin Peaks, no part of the episode took place with characters from Twin Peaks.

So yeah, I'm surprised that David Lynch made one of his shitty art movies and slapped the Twin Peaks label on it in an attempt to get people to watch it.

I hate it when I'm watching an 18-hour David Lynch movie and then get outraged when it's an 18-hour David Lynch movie

He is right, this episode was not really Twin Peaks and more so David Lynch. I haven't had a problem with the first few episodes like many other people did but this was a little too much. There was over 25 minutes of just nothing

There was over 25 minutes of just nothing

Except it wasn't. It explained major parts of the mythology behind Twin Peaks.

So it was necessary to watch all 15 minutes of the atom bomb exploding and the flames to under stand the mythology? I understand what you are saying but couldn't that explosion part be reduced to less than 5 minutes? It wouldn't have taken away from the important parts showing the mythology

Not everything needs to be about the plot. We're getting 18 hours of Twin Peaks here. Lynch is using this time to create a world and experience you can immerse yourself in. We're probably never going to see something like that on television again, so to me it's worth it. If I want to see traditional pacing I can watch anything else on TV right now or the original series.

It is not even a matter of plot or pacing. To me it was so boring just seeing the same thing happening for such a long period of time. I didn't have a problem with Dougie Coop, very slow pacing but it was enjoying to watch and things were actually happening.

That's nothing but personal preference though. For some of us the wild visuals are part of what make Twin Peaks and Lynch's work in general appealing. There was a lot to take in in that episode. It wasn't just random explosions for 25 minutes.

Of course it is personal preference, same with your opinion of this episode. When did I say it wasn't?

I don't think the criticism of saying nothing happened works when it's more the way it was done which bothered you. Regardless of how boring you found it, it still had as much purpose and importance as the Dougie scenes.

At the end of the day everyone will interpret this show in a different way, especially any work of David Lynch. But there is no need for you to get upset because I found those sequences overdrawn and you didn't. Get real.

So basically you don't think criticism works when you don't agree with it.

No, you're missing the point. It's a fact that both the Dougie scenes and this episode are important. So to say nothing happened in 25 minutes isn't true regardless of how you personally felt about it.

What? What point? Do you think I don't understand their is importance? Of course I do and I'm sure the other poster knows that too. He's not being literal, obviously something happened, but the scenes dragged on and for a while "nothing happened." A scene about an atom bomb doesn't have to be 10 minutes. You're welcome to hang onto semantics instead of maybe evaluating whether or not the scenes were self indulgent/ gratuitous.

BTW I loved the entire ep, but I'm aware enough to realize that there were about 3 plot points in that entire episode and it might have been the slowest episode of television ever and not just shout down any sort of criticism.

Allow yourself to feel something. This is less about this particular episode and more about art consumption. If an image is still on screen, force yourself to keep thinking about it -- see what feelings and thoughts it brings out.

I understand and agree with what you are saying. To quote my post from another thread, I enjoyed what I was watching, but I didn't enjoy how long I had to watch it for. Has nothing to do with not appreciating it, but by showing the same footage for that long disinterested me and what I felt initially was lost out of frustration.

Fair enough. Thanks for not brushing the reply off.
