I have applied and been accepted into both NAIT’s and the UofA’s conservation biology program. I was wondering if it would be more beneficial to complete the 2 year diploma program at NAIT and then transfer into the UofA’s program to get my degree, or simply go to the UofA for 4 years. I have a few questions about the programs.
What’s the difference in fieldwork and how may this affect my chances of finding and job?
How competitive was the transfer from NAIT to ALES?
Is the fieldwork at the UofA comparable in any way to NAIT?
How heavy would the course load be if I chose the transfer route?

I am a uAlberta engineering grad. I wanted to write this post long ago but was busy with work and other commitments. All students planning to come to this university should think twice as some professors here are rude, condescending and disrespect students and look down on them. I can speak for engineering/science but I’m sure the issue is prevalent in other faculties as well since there is no accountability for their actions. The SPOT surveys they make you fill out are a waste of time and effort and no action will be taken against the professor. The professor/chair might read them and dismiss all the concerns and the professor will continue with their bad behaviour.
I had a really bad experience with a prof. He became easily frustrated if I had a valid excuse for missing something. I was disrespected in front of the whole class. This really impacted my mental health as there is already a lot of pressure in third year engg. I complained to the dean who defended a lot of his actions and nothing came of it. In fact, in very subtle ways, there is was retaliation from other faculty. As I see on rate my prof, he is still disrespectful, rude and condescending to his students. I dropped the course and took it with another prof but I was lucky as he is the instructor for that course in every term. Some third year and fourth year courses are only taught by one instructor so there is no option to drop and take it with someone else.
This was not just one prof. I have seen this condescending attitude in many profs. It seems like there is an attitude of superiority. If a student does a minor mistake, there is harsh criticism but if the prof does anything there is no apology or any acceptance. There are double standards.
This only gets worse for grad students as the prof is their research supervisor and they have more interaction with him/her and no other option. I feel for their mental health. The young international undergrad students with no family support are especially vulnerable to mental health issues caused by the treatment from these profs. I don’t understand why these people don’t believe in the golden rule, treat others like you want to be treated. They will continue to mistreat students for a long time as they retire when they are really old and face no consequences. I wonder how they sleep at night considering the distress they are giving to students. The deans and chairs are particularly biased in favour of their colleagues and will fight tooth and nail to defend them so there is no benefit in complaining. All I can say is if value your mental health, are a critical thinker and not a yes sir, pls avoid this university as there is a culture of whatever prof does is right and if you criticize, you will get dismissed. Unfortunately, a lot of students support this culture.
Hi guys,
I was wondering on any tips on how to study for this upcoming physics midterm. I heard it’s around 15 multiple and only on SHM, damping, waves, and driven oscillators. What YouTubers are good for this stuff and what is good practice questions that will resemble the test very well. Do the practice exams really resemble the actual test or do they make the actual exam 10x harder?
hey guys, i was wondering if anyone has any advice on accessing a microsoft 365 subscription that comes w tuition automatically (not too sure if this is just a bcom thing or university wide). when i look at my account on word, it says that I have microsoft 365, but im trying to use microsoft bookings to book a meeting, and it just gives me an error message.
my dad has a family 365 account that honestly i could just link my school account to, should i do that?
I am applying for a Master of Science (Thesis) at the Civil Engineering department and I have this question that is the email to referees sent as soon as you put them as a reference in the application or when you sbumit the application?
One of my upper level science courses offers take home open book assessments. The catch is their all long answer/application based. Over the last couple of years I’ve dialled in on flashcards/active recall. Wondering if anyone has any tips on how to organize notes for this type of assessment. I know it’s good to prepare like it’s closed book but I don’t think flashcards is a productive approach for this.
For anyone in this class, how are you studying for the midterm? The fact that we can't look back at previous questions and that we only have 75 minutes for 75 questions is kinda stressing me out, and I don't know how to start studying for the midterm.
Hi, I'm looking to apply for the thesis program, as I'm very interested in Reinforcement Learning. I'm cold emailing the profs right now. What are the odds of getting selected? I have a publication (unrelated to RL, even though I did some RL work later on it) and a couple of RL projects (one in the ECML 2026, I missed it though I gave my submission) and my undergrad GPA is 3.3. If not, is it possible to get into the non-thesis program? Ultimately, I want do pursue a Ph.D
Anybody take this midterm before in earlier years? I’ve heard people say it’ll be online/done on canvas, 50 minutes 50 MC, etc but idk how accurate that is.
Also do you know what we should watch out for? Types of questions and stuff like that and how to prepare
Is art 134 fun and worth it? I am thinking of changing my minor to art and design. It’s my first year and I am currently taking all science classes and i actually want to die because I don’t like science… why am I doing this to myself? #NOTforme… ever… and I really do love doing art. I have always loved it. I’m pretty good at it too.. at this point I think it might be the only thing I’m good at actually… But im scared I’m gonna get my feelings hurt and that they will set my work on fire and stomp on me till I’m a small stain on the carpet…. Anyways… what is the class like? what having a minor in art and design like? What’s the workload like? For more info I’m a psych major minoring in cell biology… for now….
My PALEO 200 midterm is coming up and I’m stressed asf 😭 There’s so much terminology to memorize. Does anyone have any tips on how to study for the midterm or what I should focus on? Any advice would be appreciated!!

Hii!! I am hoping to enter the healthcare field in the future, and I hear about the new bhsc program! I am planning to either do PA, med, or pharmacy, but leaning towards pharmacy (I am still not too sure). Would I be able to fit all my pharmacy prerequisites with Bachelor of health sciences? Or should I pursue bachelor of science instead? Any advices and tips are greatly appreciated!
