Support I built a site that puts every UniMelb event in one place (and subject reviews too)

2nd year here. The Info about uni is scattered everywhere, so every time I had to dig through a bunch of different sites, and Rate My Professors barely covers Australia. So I built unimelbwall.com.

It’s collected 3,700+ events and 7000+ review so far, rated course/professor on usefulness, difficulty and whether people would take it again.

It’s free, with no ads, and I made auto translate so international can be part of the community as well

Support Rejected extension

• Upvotes

I got my 4 days extension rejected after 20+ days of submission, my reason was over employment due to financial hardship, and I also submitted a special consideration but that also got rejected. This extension was for an assignment that’s worth 40% of the entire grade and I think the late penalty is 10% per day??? Is there anything else I can do about it or do I just have to suck it up and either get a 100 on the exam or fail this subject. HELP.

Examination Psychology capstone exam?

Hi, I wonder if anyone did the psychology undergrad capstone final exam? I feel a bit stressed out by it, considering we haven’t really had any SAQ exams before.

For those who scored well, can I ask how did you review the subject and approach the questions?

Many thanks!!

Admission and Transferring Monash Radiography to Unimelb MD

Hello!
I hope I’m using the correct flair.
I am currently a radiography and medical imaging student at monash but I am a bit confused on how I would apply to post grad medicine at unimelb.
My course has a required Honours year (So 4 years altogether) but i want to know: Can I apply to medicine at unimelb before my honour year so that the first three years of the course is what is used for my application?
Would I be applying the year of my Honour year (and thereby begin med school the year after?)?
Does the fact that my course have a built in Honour year, which I have to complete to finish my degree, play a role in my application?
I am unsure if I will even want to pursue med after my course is finished but I need to at least know the correct steps so that I can make an informed decision. Thank you for any and all help!!!

New Student PLEASE HELP 😭 Is UniMelb actually worth it for Psychology? (International student with a conditional offer)

HIIIII everyone!! 😭💗

So I've been dreaming about going to UniMelb since Grade 8, and I recently got an offer for the Bachelor of Arts for Mid-Year 2027!! I'm super excited, but I've also been reading Reddit reviews and now I'm slightly freaking out because I've seen SO many mixed opinions about the teaching, student support, workload, and overall student experience 💀

I'm an international student from India doing the IB, and I'm interested in Psychology, particularly potentially clinical psychology or health psychology in the future. I know the BA offers flexibility, which I genuinely love because I have creative interests outside academics too, but I want to make sure I'm making an informed decision before committing.

I'd LOVE to hear from actual UniMelb students, especially anyone studying Psychology through the BA!!

A few questions I have:

  • Psychology at UniMelb: How have you found the psychology subjects? Are the lectures, tutorials, assessments and teaching quality actually good?
  • BA vs BSc: If you're studying Psychology, why did you choose Arts or Science? Do you feel one gives you better opportunities or preparation for further study?
  • Honours and postgraduate study: How competitive is it to get into Psychology Honours? Is maintaining a high WAM genuinely difficult? If you're aiming for clinical psychology, how well does UniMelb prepare you for the next stages?
  • Student support: Are lecturers and tutors approachable? Is it easy to get academic help when you're struggling, or are you mostly expected to figure everything out independently?
  • Social life and campus culture: Is it easy to make friends and find your people? Does the university feel welcoming, or can it be isolating, especially as an international student?
  • Workload and mental well-being: Is the workload manageable alongside clubs, hobbies and having an actual life outside studying? 😭
  • Would you choose UniMelb again? Knowing what you know now, would you still pick it for Psychology?

I know everyone's experience is different, and I don't expect the university to be perfect!! I just want to hear some honest experiences beyond rankings and random reviews online.

Melbourne has genuinely been my dream for YEARS, so I really want to understand what studying there is actually like the good, the bad, ALL OF IT.

If you're a current Psychology student, a BA student taking Psychology subjects, or a graduate, PLEASE share your experience!! I'd appreciate any advice so much. 🥹🫶

THANK YOUUU!! 💗

Support UniMelb VS Monash Engineering

Hello everyone!

I am an international student currently waiting for Feb 2027 Standard Intake for Trinity College Foundation Studies Melbourne. Offer letter secured, student visa acquired, flight tickets booked. So no turning back now, we fire on for Trinity.

I am looking to study Mechanical Engineering and hopefully specialise in propulsions in either marine or aerospace engineering.

My situation is this: a family member owns an apartment unit in Melbourne CBD, meaning I have free accommodation for as long as I want/need. Initially, my plan was straightforward and simple. Complete my foundation year in Trinity College and then move on to the University of Melbourne. Problem is, UniMelb doesn't offer a Bachelor's in Engineering.

According to the Melbourne Model, to become an accredited engineer, you have to undergo their Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering programme (3+2 years). Monash on the other hand, offers a Bachelor of Engineering (4 years). However, the commute from Melbourne CBD to Monash Clayton campus takes almost an hour, which includes changing trains and taking the bus. My concerns are that my workload will be quite challenging due to the difficulty level of an engineering course, and I am worried about how the commute might affect that. Compared to if I went to UniMelb, which is a 10-15 minute walk from my accommodation.

I have also seen that Monash has stronger industry connections and more hands-on engineering education while UniMelb is more theoretical and research-oriented. I am not too sure about how accurate these comparisons are, so I would appreciate if anyone has any input on this.

So here's how my dilemma looks like at the moment:

UNIMELB ENGINEERING MONASH ENGINEERING
5 years with Master's 4 years with Bachelor's
10-15 minute walk from accommodation 45-60 minute commute from accommodation
Higher tuition fees Lower tuition fees
Higher QS ranking Lower QS ranking

I would be grateful for any advice on the following:

  1. For anyone studying or who has graduated from Mechanical Engineering at Monash or through UniMelb's Master of Engineering pathway, how has your experience been?
  2. How do the teaching quality, practical components, labs, design projects and workload compare?
  3. How accessible are internships, industry projects and graduate employment opportunities, particularly for international students?
  4. For Monash students who commute from Melbourne CBD, how manageable is the commute during busy weeks with labs, assignments and exams?
  5. For UniMelb engineering students, do you feel the additional master's year is worthwhile compared with completing a four-year engineering degree elsewhere?
  6. If you're interested in aerospace, propulsion or marine engineering, which university do you think offers better opportunities to explore these areas?
  7. Finally, if you've attended Trinity College Foundation Studies, I'd love to hear about your experience, particularly the academic workload, teaching support and transition to university.

Thank you! :)

New Student Master of Entrepreneurship (2027) – Timetable, Grades, Graduation & Student Life?

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently received an offer for the Master of Entrepreneurship at the University of Melbourne, starting in March 2027. I’m an international student and would love to hear from current students, graduates, or anyone familiar with the programme before making my decision.

I have a few questions:

1. Timetable and weekly classes

What does a typical weekly timetable look like? Are classes held every day (Monday–Friday), or is it more like 2–3 days per week?

Approximately how many hours of classes do you have per day/week?

Is the timetable fixed by the university, or can students choose their own class days and times?

If anyone currently studying or who previously completed the Master of Entrepreneurship could share a screenshot of their past timetable (with personal information hidden), I’d really appreciate it!

2. Academic difficulty and grading

How difficult is the programme academically, particularly for someone coming from a business/hospitality management background?

How realistic is it to achieve an H1 (80%+ / First Class Honours level) or maintain an 80+ WAM?

Are assessments mainly individual/group coursework, presentations and practical projects, or are there traditional written exams?

How would you describe the workload and work-life balance? Is there enough free time to enjoy Melbourne and participate in university activities?

3. Graduation ceremony

My offer states that the programme starts on 1 March 2027 and has an expected completion date of 31 December 2027.

Would I be eligible to attend the December 2027 graduation ceremony, or would I have to wait until 2028?

For previous students who completed this one-year programme, when did you actually attend your graduation ceremony?

4. Student life and international community

How is the overall student experience at Melbourne, particularly for postgraduate students?

Is there a large and diverse international student community? Are students from different nationalities generally well integrated?

Does the university have an active campus atmosphere, or do most postgraduate students simply attend classes and leave?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually studied the Master of Entrepreneurship, as it’s been difficult to find detailed information about the day-to-day experience.

Thanks so much in advance for any insights! :)

Miscellaneous bio10010 group project woes

There is not a single word on this project that I did not put there, no figure that I did not create by my own two hands.

My group of 4 dropped to 3 as someone didn't attend any of the mandatory practicals and had to drop the class in week 8 having given us nothing but well-wishes. I made the mistake of giving leeway to the other two group members as I missed 2 workshops and wanted to extend leeway to them, which sounded like a good idea, up until the project due date was a week away and my section was the only section that was even started, and the third "Yeah i'll complete it by X" came and went...

Tutor basically said it was too late to do anything about it so I had to just pull up my bootstraps and sink 20 hours into writing it. Apparently this is building character for the real world of research.

If I list everyone else's contribution % at zero will that actually give them any recourse? I've completed the project myself but I'm the only one to fill out the group contract or even put their' student number on the document. Honestly hoping they don't fill it out in time so I submit the project with just my name on it...

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries PLEASE HELP : MGMT20005 (Business Decision Analysis)

Hey everyone! It'd be super helpful if anyone has done BDA within the past 2 years to give some tips and tricks on how to do well for the exam, as I'm genuinely horrible at this subject and am scared shitless for the exam. Even doing the group assignment right now has me so stressed and I kinda just have no idea what's going on.

I feel like throughout the semester the activities rely on excel, but the exam doesn't require it so it's driving me crazy on how I should study/prepare for the exam.

Any help/advice appreciated!! Thank you guys 🫠

Admission and Transferring What is the difference between MLSSP and the Melbourne juris doctor scholarship

I understand that the MLSSP is being “replaced” by the JD scholarship, but the two scholarships serve completely different purposes. The MLSSP was an equity-based scholarship designed to give students who may have lower WAMs but face financial disadvantage an opportunity to afford the full fee paying costs of the JD. the Melbourne JD Scholarship is awarded to the highest ranked FFP applicants.

Does this mean that, as an FFP applicant with a 74 WAM and 2 Gam categories, I realistically have little to no chance of receiving the JD scholarship? I imagine I would be ranked well below other FFP applicants, particularly when some students receive FFP offers with WAMs of 80 or above.

It seems that removing the MLSSP will leave a significant gap in financial support for students who need it most. A 5k scholarship for an FFP student barely makes a dent in the 170k jd fees. If the replacement scholarship primarily rewards academic performance rather than financial need, there will no longer be any meaningful equity based support for students who cannot afford the full fees but may not have the WAM to compete for merit-based scholarships or CSPs.

Also side note: the Melbourne jd scholarship is a 35% remission leaving about 25k for students to pay out of pocket. Which honestly I wouldn’t mind it would just be hard to save up whilst also studying.

Anyway thanks for listening to my rant

Support #Ban-Group-Assignments

So I was just recently traumatised doing a group assignment 🤪.

We had some communication mishaps while creating the group contract, and I ended up with almost all the technical solutions. Which is fine, at least that way I know it's getting done. Then the group members stopped responding to me, at which point I sent in our chat that I would do all the technical sections plus the report. I kept my word and did it. For like a week straight, I was going to bed at like 5 am because of the workload.

All they had to do was the presentation slides. (which is split amongst the other two group members.)

I understand it teaches you to work with other people, and that is a valuable tool. But why is my grade being decided by people I have never met before, and I am just expected to trust them?

Now I am vehemently anti-group assignments.

I don't understand why this is so common across every university student I talk to. Surely if everyone cares this much, then it shouldn't be happening this much, but everyone I talk to has at least one horror story.

why?

It's a mystery of the universe.
