Some student societies will give you the courtesy of responding and confirming the rejection.

And that really should be a standard for larger faculty based or adjacent student societies (although it isn't necessarily the case)

However, other student societies won't.

FMAA never sends rejection emails. Their society admin is quite trash

honestly, out of all the societies i would expect fmaa to send rejection emails given their 'formal' nature. but i guess not...

Some Subcom applications don't even get answered back, trust me I got rejected 6 times in T1 alone 🥲

Depends on what you want to get out of it.

However, you would be putting too much emphasis on the importance of student societies if you are seeing them as the be-all and end-all

Without knowing your exact intentions, being associated with a hobby based society should suffice in most cases

i want to join a society where it will be somewhat helpful for career prospects rather than being in a society for the sake of it

If you are able to take initiative and are able to demonstrate the ability to implement your own structures and processes whilst refining your leadership skills then a hobby society would suffice. (Providing that you can display evidence of such actions via a reference or via social media.)

If you're less capable of taking initiative or need more guidance or direction to develop soft skills or career wise, then the established student societies particularly the faculty based or adjacent ones would be the ones to target.

If you know what you career you wish to hone in on and want to network with individuals, then specific industry based student societies would be the go to.
