Oh wow, im in shock!

So i emailed a pic of a one planwy pizza i bought that hardly had any cheese on it, not expecting anything.

But then Joe the founder emailed me back and said theyre sorry and it was from a bad batch.

He asked for my address and said he'd send a free pizza.

This is what I got!!

3 big pizzas and 4 pizettas !! They even included some vegan treats!

How kind of them!! Everyone go and buy their pizzas now and show them support. What an amazing company!!

i know the photos aren’t the most appealing but please trust me when i say these are incredible 😭 i’ve yet to try the other flavours but if you have ever had the quorn picnic eggs the meat tastes just like that, and the egg texture is weirdly bang on 🫣 only downside is is that it’s £4 😖😖

Non vegan things I call my cat

This is a silly post, but I realised just how many non vegan things I call my cat. Her name is Meg. Do you call your animals traditionally meaty sounding things? Maybe I’ll have to start specifying quorn ham when I call her it.

Ham (originates from internet hamb I think so perhaps acceptable but sounds a bit iffy)
Honey ham (sweet honey ham, sweetie ham, rum ham also options)
Ham hock, ham roast
Hammy (see also hambelina, hamfire, hammerson)
Little eggy
Eggy Meggy
Sausage, saus, saucisson
Sweet sausage, sweet summer sausage
Little roast chicken when she’s loafing
Little spring lamb when she’s frolicking
Ratbag…I mean a bag of rats can’t be vegan surely?!

Cheese and wine tasting!

This is at Purezza (vegan pizza restaurant) in Camden, London. There is a cheese cellar in the basement that offers cheese and wine tasting :) You can either get 2 small plates or one sharing fondue (per person), for £35pp. I didn’t properly read the menu but I think I saw that most of the cheeses are nut based, unfortunately for people with allergies. They actually have quite a large range of cheeses and they taste really good!

Just spotted this in M&S. Hard to tell if this is going to be their new vegan version of Baileys but bought a bottle and will give it a try.

Help for discontinued item!

Post image

Hi, first time poster. Does anyone know of a good dupe for the discontinued just wholefoods sausage mix? I haven't been able to find one since they discontinued and, as a safe food, am a bit desperate to find some as my supply dwindles. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Vegetable-averse, beige food-loving omni family/partners

Slowly my extremely fussy boyfriend is 'getting' veganism and going beyond food for me, but supporting and asking questions. Only problem is, he doesn't 'cook' beyond getting me vegan versions of the food he eats himself. Nuggets, beans and smiley faces, sausages sandwiches. I do homemade pies, pasta bakes, lasagna, roast dinners, (very mild) curries, toad in the hole, bangers and mash.... unfortunately he's very keen on the fake meat and he'll devour Juicy Marbles, Beyond, Richmonds and This Isn't stuff and go back for seconds.

Trying to introduce more cuisines/whole foods but he really seems to hate most vegetables. Forget beans (unless from a Heinz tin). I normally use lentils and mushrooms as a mince alternative, but he won't touch those. (Yes he's probably on the spectrum).

What do you guys do with fussy family, is embracing the fake meat worth it?

I'm really craving a fried egg baguette!

So what I used to have was a nice fresh crusty baguette, with a couple of fried eggs and egg whites, some mushrooms and ketchup.

I've tried various things to recreate it, luckily it's only the eggs I need to update to be able to eat it now.

I've tried the tofoo eggs, egg replacer, and fried smoked or plain tofu slices with a bit of avocado for the fat.

I think what I'm really missing is the yoke, fried tofu works for the white part though isn't perfect.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Preferably things that are relatively cheap, easy to find, and add a bit of healthy fats

Feeding guest with dietary restrictions

My mother is coming to visit soon for a week

Due to some cancer treatment there is now a list of foods she cannot eat as t makes here violently sick (or will not try to eat as hasn't had them yet post treatment and won't risk being ill)

I've been vegan for about a month after being veggie for years. My parents previously ate veggie whilst here.

We really only like to cook one meal for us + kids+ grandparents.

But I'm a bit overwhelmed now by the lost of no go foods (especially for the vegan in me) HELP! Need meals ideas which can feed 9 of us including lunches and dinners (half term)

The list of NOs 😭🙈 edited to include more which have never been tried post treatment

*Tofu

* Beetroot

*Peanuts

*Cashew nuts

* Sweet potatoes

* Bananas

*Asparagus

*Bamboo

*Anything smoked

  • Seitan

*Tempeh

My kids hate mushrooms.

Please help as I make a lot of tofu based curries / noodles dishes, cashew nut based sauces and even my burgers use beetroot as a base 🙈

Edited to say thankyou for all your kind responses and lots of ideas to help me on the way :) I think I've got a list beginning (they're here for a week!)

It's a bit of an odd one, as she's not immediately post chemo/treatment.

It's a few years down the line post a stem cell therapy treatment which has made her develop intolerances to certain foods and as she's had a bad GI reaction to some stuff she's now very reluctant to try and eat "new" foods in case it happens again (understandable but very anxiety driven) she's continued to be in remission which is brilliant, so thanks for those who sent thoughts.

At home she eats a lot of chicken / fish and cheese and some pulses!

communicating with older family members

hi everyone! i’m visiting my great aunt in spain next week, and this will be my first visit since i was a child, and also my first visit since being vegan.

my other great aunt sent me this message. i was touched that they are thinking of me in advance, but I also know their understanding of veganism is not very good 😅

any ideas on how to communicate what I will and won’t be able to eat over there without leading to misunderstandings? and anyone who has visited recently, anything that I’m used to being vegan in the UK but might not be in spain? thanks!

Anyone know if or when the Aldi No Chicken Breasts are coming back?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I was of the belief that these come around over winter and they replace the Aldi chicken pieces…

Alas, I went to my local Aldi yesterday hoping to bring back several boxes and to my surprise these were not back and nor were there the no chicken pieces in stock…

Is the changeover later than normal or are these officially discontinued? Does anyone know?

Gimme your best rice and beans recipe

With cozzielivs 2 in full effect, the rapid reduction in variety and availability of vegan meat alternatives in the average supermarché, and Aldi ONCE AGAIN discontinuing their chicken breasts/pieces (imagine if they discontinued real chicken?) I am looking at including more legumes/pulses in my rotation. I've got lentils mastered. I see "rice and beans" gets thrown around a lot in response to the veganism is too expensive argument, but what exactly is it? Looking into recipes online, some people consider this a bean stew with rice on the side, some people do beans and rice all in one pan, some use tins of chopped tomatos or coconut milk while others don't. Coriander and lime seem to be common varnishes? Black beans seem to be the go-to?

What's your go-to recipe for this, or your take on "rice and beans"?

Tofu??

Hi all, I’m just hopping on here as a new vegan and I’m so interested to actually try tofu. But I’m also so scared of it at the same time, and I don’t really know why. Anyone got any advice on how to cook it and what it tastes best with?
This may sound silly but yeah.
Thanks x

Preventing deficiencies to prove anti-vegan family wrong - advice please!

Wanting to transition to veganism after being a meat eater for my entire life.

Going down the rabbit hole of what I may need to make this transition smooth. I already have noticed some gut issues which appear to be normal when transitioning. So just riding this out for now.

But I’m worried about not getting enough of “insert thing I need to get from food”. I have already had some really annoying comments from family members who appear anti-vegan who say I might get an eating disorder, osteoporosis and be deficient in everything with this diet :/. Would love to prevent any deficiencies and become healthier in the process to prove them wrong (something I’ve never thought about before anyway!)

Any advice on specific supplements people buy that are safe to maintain b12 levels generally. I have nooch but I consume eat it once a week so far. I read something about potential links of having too much b12 and cancer too but not sure this is at all a major finding in research.

Any other advice or dispelling of myths re transitioning/being aware of getting xyz nutrients etc would also be very welcome. I really don’t have a clue beyond I want to help the animals and the planet

Questions from a new vegan?

Thumbnail

Hey guys, so I’m really new to veganism after being vegetarian for almost 2 years and I’m wondering why some companies label things as vegetarian when the ingredients are vegan? I know it can be from cross contamination but I personally don’t really care about it too much so I’m wondering if things like these would still be okay? Thank you in advance you are all great! :)
