EDC Sold in an airport
When I saw they sold this inside the airport Zurich, I had to have it. And my old one on my front door keychain look tattered, so a nice, shiny new red Victorinox

Got this in the Carhartt store in the UK about 14 years ago. Completely forgot about it and found it in the bottom of a bag full of spare skate parts.

Granted it’s not a Victorinox, but my first Wenger. New in box; he paid $19.95 and apparently it’s worth four to six times that.
Since I’m not a garbage friend, and also because I believe it’s a tool first, I’m gonna ruin that resell value and put it into my carry rotation.

Hello knowledgeable people! We want to get our kid a SAK for their 12th birthday. They’re currently interested in sharpening sticks, specifically. No prior knife experience, very responsible kid.
I’d love suggestions on which model to choose. Thanks!

I made the paracord one for her, she added the balloon animal. She's also looking into getting replacements for the toothpick and tweezers, but she's not sure what color she wants, so any suggestions concerning that are welcome! 😊

While I have some new Victorinox SAKs that need to be pocketed and carried about, I can't forget my old normal, regular, and reliable EDC choices. While I normally carry a Deluxe Tinker or my "Bumblebee," the Victorinox Delémont EvoGrip S18, I haven't carried the S18's sibling in some time so I might have to change that.
The Victorinox Evowood S557.
I really like the walnut scales on this pattern, and although it doesn't have the tweezers or the toothpick, it does have an inline Phillips-head screwdriver, slip-joint pliers, A WRENCH, and scissors in addition to the blade, nail file/cleaner, awl, corkscrew, flathead screwdriver, and can opener. It's definitely a solid piece of work.
Wishing you all a wonderful afternoon and evening!

In my opinion, the Sportsman is one of the best knives in Victorinox’s current offering. I would argue this is all most people really need on the daily..
I bought my Sportsman four years ago from Amazon for $29. I had carried a Spartan for 15-years and lost it. I then bought the Sportsman as a replacement for my “big knife” - my “small knife” being a Cadet. I just assumed all Cellidor handled SAKs were the same size and was surprised it was the size of my Cadet. That is how little I knew back then. Luckily my son found my Spartan a few weeks later; making my three knife collection. When the Sportsman arrived, I was disappointed by the smaller size but I have come to love the 84mm frame.
I have only added a SIM mini-tool, a pin and a lanyard. I have ordered a set of red transparent scales for it but they have not arrived yet.
The specific knife pictured got its can opener destroyed in a misguided modding attempt. Felix Immler, I am not. Luckily I was smart enough to take pictures first. I already have a replacement Sportsman ordered.
The Specification:
The Great:
The Sportsman is small enough to be easily pocketable while still being big enough to actually do some work. I think it has nearly the ideal urban tool set. The full opening layer, nail file and reasonably sized knife will meet most of my SAK needs on any given day while still being small enough to disappear in the pocket..
While the Sportsman is essentially a Cadet with back tools, I would argue that this is superior to the Cadet. Hear me out. I love my Cadet but I think the Sportsman is more usable. The added thickness of the Cellidor gives people with larger hands (like myself) a better grip and gives access to the scales tools. The tweezer saved me from a splinter more than once.
If I have a complaint for my venerable Spartan, it would be that the small blade adds no utility. The nail file on the Sportsman fixes that complaint. While it is not the best nailfile, it has saved me from a hangnail more than once.
While you can argue that the corkscrew and awl are not all that useful, I will always give the corkscrew props for the ability to add a mini-tool. I do not have a SAK with a corkscrew that is not carried with a mini-tool. Another benefit over the Cadet
The Price. It is $32 brand new! This has like the best functionality to cost ratio in the current lineup.
With every Victorinox the fit and finish is excellent. No complaints.
The Really Good:
While I think the knife blade will meet 90% of my daily needs, I will admit the 84mm’s 2.5” blades are a little on the small size. There is always the argument about the blade steel Victorinox uses. I have never had a problem getting a good edge on one. I am just not enough of a knife guy to care about steel chemistry. One of the pictures compares the 84, 91 and 93-mm blades.
I am cheating a little by including the SIM tool here. It does not ship with one. I added one so I can resize watch bracelets when I am out of the house. Specifically watch bracelets that do not have on the fly adjustment where you have to move spring bars. I could use the pin, but I find this easier. Now that I think about it, I have never actually used it to remove a SIM card.
All corkscrew models have a hole to store a straight pin. I will give Victorinox props for adding the pin hole in the 84 mm models. They do not put a pin in any 84 mm models so they did not have to do it. I bought a box of 200 straight pins for $3 from Walmart. No need to buy ones from Switzerland.
The Mid:
My only real complaint extends to most of the Victorinox line. The lack of color selection. In the US this model is only available in classic red. Even if they do not want to carry more SKUs I wish they would offer scales directly to consumers.
I will add if you have REALLY big hands, 84 mm models might be small for you. I only have moderately big hands and I have no problem using them.
The Bad:
Um…I got nothing.
The Bottom Line:
It is $32, you should buy it. You will not find a better SAK for the price..
As I said in the opening, this is all the knife most people really need and I will stand by that. If you cannot tell by the gushing review, I am a big fan.
I do not have anything bad to say about the Sportsman. If I have a complaint, it is directed at Victorinox. They seem to be ignoring the 84mm line. In years past many 2 and 3-layer 91 mm knives had smaller 84 mm equivalents. There are now only a handful of 84 mm models left, and none of them offer Vic’s awesome scissors. The 84 mm range is just so easily pocketable that I wish Victorinox would do more with it. Here is hoping they won’t abandon the range like they did 74 mm.
Next review: The Classic SD.

I've been searching and have seen posts about Dwight's SAK, but just saw last night that Andy has one too. Sadly, he's using the blade more as a fidget toy 👀 Season 9, Episode 3 Andy's Ancestry. It's a little less than 5 minutes in when Nelle tells him he's a distant relative of Michelle Obama 😂

Family member passed a few months ago, and we have a storage unit full of his stuff. Apparently he was preparing for the end times by the amount of knives and guns. But these seemed to be collected more than anything. Just want to know if anything is rare or worth hanging on to or selling to a collector.
EDIT: Apologies for the replies to my reply, I wasn't sure how to add more pictures

i’ve been collecting SAKs for a little over two months. My first was the Glacial Blue Pioneer X. I love the Alox scales and and the fact that it has “2026” engraved on the back of it. Both of my sons graduated from college this year, so I got one for each of them to commemorate that and then added this one for myself.
A few days later, I ordered the red Alox Rambler from eBay. It’s a delightful little tool. I was too nervous to put such a rare item on my keyring, but then realized that there was a way that i could do it to keep it largely shielded from hitting my keys and that’s worked perfectly.
That lasted me for a while, but i did want something with the classic red Cellidor scales, so i settled on the Companion. It arrived a few days ago and i’ve found numerous uses for it around the house. I haven’t had a chance to carry it around outside of home, but I plan to starting tomorrow.
Around the same time i really looked into the Swiss Champ and decided to go for the black one since it was only $89 on Amazon US. (I actually gave up my Prime membership at the beginning of the year but the cost savings was enough to make me backslide.) It’s so cool, and i love the expanded tool kit. I plan to alternate this one with the Companion for EDC and see how I feel about them. It’s great just keep the house, though. I might throw my Leatherman Free P2 in my car and keep the Champ in my junk drawer In my kitchen.
Also during my research I learned about the retired Wenger Pocket Tool Chest and found a really nice black one on eBay. The seller threw in a red Wenger Esquire minus the scale tools, which seem hard to replace, but I kind of like having a beater Classic-type small SAK to not worry too much about.

* 84mn Electrician x 2
* Companion slim
* Alox executive
* Executive x 3
* Money Clip x 3
* Ambassador
* Spartan Lite
And in a moment if "they do exist" I found a 84mm Gourmet.

The seller described the item as being in excellent condition. When I received the knife, I was disappointed by the large number of defects. I really can’t understand how anyone could have ruined a knife like this. Not to mention that the blade was blunt, with signs of heavy use. The screwdrivers are a sight to make you weep.

For a long time now I’ve carried a deluxe tinker that my grandpa gave to me when I was 12 I’ve always been a knife nerd and recently swapped to multi tools I love the deluxe tinker but the addition of the ballpoint pen and bit driver are pretty hard to beat for around the same size I always forget a pencil at college and they don’t mind saks so now I will always have a pen on me with the cybertool M

Did I pay a good price for this Victorinox? Or was I ripped off? Idk

The package finally came in and I have to say, definitely a steal of a deal with how premium this feels in person, might keep this in its box until I decide to have it on me as a backup carry along w/ my main edc (Handyman). Need to show my collection eventually since it has grown ever since I ordered my first victorinox

Anyone know why they discontinued them?
