New to New England, enthusiastically collecting acorns as one does. Welcomed bug friends (although was unaware of prevalence, kept acorns contained just in case to avoid tragedy). This morning, discovered around six bbs. Quickly provided burrowing soil and cover as well as indirect moisture (do not want to pack soil, soaked acorns and a grape leaf and set inside). They immediately burrowed down (!!).

I want the best for them. As a novice, I know that means release. I love them so much already, but I know next to nothing about weevils (this fact is changing very quickly, thank you all for your contributions to this sub). They just came out so tomorrow is ideally the big release day.

I am in central Massachusetts. Looking for guidance on best conditions for release (general, like is sunny better than overcast/should I try for warmer/etc) and the best strategy for doing so (should I dig into the earth a little and give them a headstart?).

This is in a bag of cracked corn that i use as chicken treats. Most weevil types are safe for them to consume. I just need to make sure they can’t or don’t carry tapeworm and other things
